Just to share sum news with u guys. Koochee sprained her leg yesterday. I dun know whether she fell or tripped on sumthing.

Cheekoo he woke me up at 4.30am this morning. When i went to see wut its all about, Koochee was moving around with her hind left leg unmoved. I was so worried n was crying like mad. And brought her to sleep with me on the bed. *I remember Dr Jenny said, that a few cases, the joeys cannot even use their hind legs due to unsufficient nutrien. That kinda freaks me out so so much.*
*
Sounds not too good. Hope it's something less serious than hind leg paralysis. Is she still active and moving about, taking food? Let's pray that this isn't permanent and for Koochee to recover speedily. She's a fighter.

Here's a link that may help you look for answers for the time being. LINK.

they was so naughty, they bite me until my fingers bleed. shocking.gif
taking time to tame it.

Came across one of these guys sometime back. He was a wild caught, from Papuan regions I was told. The interesting thing about them is the natural stripes (or the lack of) when compared to pet suggies we get to see so often. The copper-tone fur is another interesting characteristic. It's not due to prolonged exposure to their pee, like those normally found in the pet shops. The fur of the guy I saw was also rather thin, just like yours. Not really sure if that is a bad sign, or just another characteristic that sets apart a wild sugar glider from a common one.

Only thing for sure is that it's not impossible to tame wild sugar gliders. But it will take a special kind of patience and commitment like Hun said. Just be careful so as not to freak the poor thing out too much. Keep it comfy, feed it well and hope for the best!

P/s: Does anyone in here know if they're actually from different subspecies? Tried Google, not much can be found.

my Ecah escaped..  cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif
not found yet..
i had closed all door n window..
any suggestion how to find escaped SG??

If I may add, leave the cage door open. Prepare her favourite food and leave it in there as well. Most gliders feel safe in their cages. Some will instinctively climb back in for shelter. The presence of water and food is major attraction when a glider is hungry. Keep the area around the cage dark at night so that she will feel that it is safer to move around.

Also don't forget to do a clean sweep check of every possible hideout. The more they are afraid or traumatized the harder they will try to hide. Look for possible glider signs like poo laying around places they shouldn't be. Check in pockets of your clothes hanging in the closet as well. Even locked desk drawers are no match for gliders(there's one glider named Noni who ingeniously thought of a way of climbing into locked drawers from behind, sliding thru a very slim cranny). Think of your glider as an intelligent little stowaway. There's a possibility for her to do anything.

If you suspect that there's a possibility that your glider escaped from your house. Try your best looking for them in all possible hideouts around your house. I'd suggest you start looking outside first. You don't have control over the environment out of your house. So it's best to start there.

The most important thing is not to panic. Do a systematic search area by area. Wish you the best of luck!

And to the person who wanted our suggies to go to the wild, im sorry...we dun agree with u. But u are still entitled to ur opinion and ours to ours. smile.gif so chill...hehehe...and u r invited to the gathering as well. Maybe we can change ur perception. Heheheh...

If you ask about Times Square or KLCC or MidValley, we sure know those places. But if you ask Ikano Power Centre most of us will be blur. Hehe...

I will find a way to Ikano prob this week, since tomorrow is cuti and I'm taking another day off on Friday. Sure have time to find Ikano! Been meaning to find the way there and Sunway Pyramid as well.

Have got to give it to you on that KP. Your finger took all the beating and was looking like a plump cherry by the time Micah caught some sleep. And yeah..Micah looked really sweet sleeping, with his Superman pose. smile.gif Hope he's doing much better now. Are you preparing any special diet for the recovering little one?

One thing i always practice when dealing with wild gliders is never let them the permission to bite you. Yes, you should let them bite u a few times in the beginning of the process so it would know that bitting you is useless and u aren't scared at all (aren't u??)... no u shouldnt la.. isk penakut! another one is hand feeding..
*
Have you been bitten by a defensive adult sugar glider before???!!

If it's not obsessive then it's normal. LOL! A lot of animals seem to like the taste of metal. Sugar gliders love to explore using all their senses. Licking metal seems to give them a new experience for their tastebuds.

will the seeds harm them?

bonai.. do u provide nail cutting for gliders in melaka?  sweat.gif
*
You could try dropping by at this shop in Melaka.

Green Land Aquarium & Landscape
30, Jalan Pantai Emas 1, Klebang Besar, 75200, Melaka.

The owner is a very nice guy. He's got some nice exotics and is always happy to help. Call him YC, short for Yong Chow. Also does nail cutting for gliders.

It's possible, whereby their vertical velocity component is near zero in the projectile motion as pix below.
This is possible.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Jitshiong, the curvilinear projectile motion in this case has a non-zero numerical value for the vertical component, say 5 m/s..so the glider will launch upward. Is this what you mean and projected from the video? What's the length of it's jump, is it more than 5 or 6 feet?

Yea, seen it in national geographic too...awesome video...
It's for both....
But for long distance...dunno how to explain...
i draw more
wait ar..
[attachmentid=445597]
Flight last longer at the end....
It's called volplaning
Then u can see them flap their membran, and use their tail to navigate
*

Uber cool guys! Thanks for sharing this.

The part where volplaning comes into play is just too interesting to ignore. In planes this requires a certain amount of control fed back by wind speed, velocity of the projectile motion and many other complex parameters(gravitational pull, density of air, aerodynamics etc.). And gliders seem to have master this 'controlled steady decent' very well, landing spot on. And this is really exciting!

How's the DIY cage going on so far silverwineus?

Dear Rafiqos,

The project has been stalled for last two months due to incoming work loads.

The blueprint is under construction now, hurray!

Once it's done, i shall post them for your review.

There will be some changes. Rivets and aluminium plate going to replace cable ties.  smile.gif
*

No need to be so formal lah..LOLz.. tongue.gif

I'm also new and want to learn from your experience making the cage. Can't wait to see the outcome.
