How much u put in for your beloved tires?

Tires - 205 45 series - ???KPA / ??PSI

For me, when i was using stock wheels 14 inch, and now using 16 inch 205 45 series, i still put in 29 psi / 200 kpa. I believe this pressure is just right? Cuz most tire shops even recommended me to put in 28psi actually.

At this moment I'm running 40psi front and 38psi rear on 215/17/45 and surprisingly it feels better and had better fuel consumption. I guess the my manual's rating of 33psi front and 32psi rear is outdated.

I'm already on stiff suspension and the higher pressure makes the steering feel even better since my car no longer bouncing on the tyres anymore. I don't like driving on soft suspension.. feels like a boat and you lose all connections to the road.

100 kPa = 14.5 PSI

for my iswara, i pump 235 kPa front and 190~200 kPa rear for best FC. a bit bouncy lah, but got shiok lighter feeling and better throttle response. and when pumping above the recommended pressure, even if u forget to pump for a while, the pressure is still near or above the recommended level. if u pump ngam-ngam at the recommended level, when u forget to pump for some time it'll be way below it.

i know of a friend driving an iswara a/b who pumps 250 kPa for all 4 15" tyres

Really can pump 40psi?! I has been using 30psi all this while, and keep wondering why my front tire always looks not fully inflated.

Can I do 34psi on 13"? Wira auto 1994 stock.

The max pressure rated for the Goodyear Eagle F1 that I'm using is 51psi. That's still a lot higher than the 40psi I'm using and even with the 10% increase after the tyre gets hot, I'm still safe.

That is nothing compared to my spare tyre. Recommended pressure is 60psi. Petronas pumps only go up to 58psi. I had to use Shell tyre pumps to fill it up to 60psi.

I guess the wider tracks do compensate when filling up to 40psi. On a 15"-er, it'll start hinting a whee bit of grip loss, especially in the rain.

The wider tracks would aquaplane easier in the rain but the wet weather properties in the F1 makes up for it. So far, nothing comes close to F1 when it comes to handling in the wet and I just love it when I leave my fellow friends in AD07 in a spray of water during rain.

front 38psi
rear 34psi

205/50/R16 Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE001.

actually, i've monitored and tested quite a few petrol station air pumps. and most of the time, they are around 2psi lower that stated. meaning, when u set 38psi at the pump, the actual pressure into ur tyre is 36psi.

i with a michellin tyre pressure gauge the moment i finish pumping at the station itself. some petrol stations even go as low as 3-4psi.

therefore, alot of tyres are actually under-inflate.

conclusion, just set the pump to be 2-3 psi higher than ur desired pressure.

hope this helps.

250kpa all round. The fat 65 series NCT5 works best without the sidewall flexing and hopping around in corners.

30 psi sounds low for a normal street-driven car, probably dragging the engine a bit too. u can try higher pressures bit by bit till u find a best compromise that makes the car lighter yet not too bumpy

pump at workshop "dry air" instead of at petrol station "wet air" smile.gif . "Dry air" will maintain the tyre pressure longer in comparison.

40 psi is still within the limits of most tyres, but the more you pump, the closer it is to this limit, and therefore there's less safety margin to work with if the tyre hits a big hole or object on the road. just my 2 cents

There's still plenty to go on my tyre. 51psi is max. I'd rather hit a big hole with a tyre full of pressure as the sidewall and rim will take less damage. Tyre will not blow out unless it was already damaged.

Pressure = Force/Area

where F = weight of 1/4 of the car
A = contact patch

Since the contact patch is less than the normal tyre, but the weight is the same it does require a higher pressure to sustain. Itu tayar cakap 60 u letak 60 lah. That tyre is built for that kinda pressure anyway doh.gif

Rim damage/tumours are more likely to happen with underinflated tyres. U can see what happens when an underinflated tyre is pressed against the kerb stone if u park the car too close.. doh.gif

Max pressure is max pressure, doesn't matter if it is hot or cold. Heat would increase the tyre temperature between 10-15 percent max as air does not expand too much.

AFAIK even the fattest, lousiest comfort slime tyres have a max of 300kpa. Low profile stuff usually can go much harder. stay below 80% max pressure for safety.

Those tractor tyres are supposed to be soft and wobbly. Truck tyres run around 500+ kpa brows.gif

Nothing will happen wan lah.. as long as u pump it to spec @ 420kpa..

PS. Personally I have seen a saga pump 400kpa, yes, 400, into 4 of his normal tyres (was waiting for him to finish using the airpump) rclxub.gif doh.gif sweat.gif

I just pumped 33psi onto my 15" wheels and drove a while. Can feel the steering wheel much more easier to turn. Maybe less grip too, and a little more comfortable smile.gif Next time might increase to 34psi

My mechanic recommends me to pump at 28-30 psi for my stock rim 14" Falken 185/60/R14. After my Falken gone, will switch to Goodyear as Falken too "soft". but i always insist him to pump 31 psi front & 30 psi rear. it is recommended to follow your car manual or the sticker at your car door there.

I have never frequent petrol station air pump now, only go to workshop for "dry air"! Overpump, aquaplaning during raining/ explode is dangerous. An ex-colleague at petrol station overpumped his C*nt*nental S*m* but still within the tyre safety pressure, exploded during he was driving. Lucky he was ok & no accident occurred.

not nitrogen. workshop the air is through air compressor. my personal experience the pressure still the same psi after 1 month usage & no pumping. Air compressor--->>>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_compressor
petrol station not, direct from atmosphere, ambient. again, my personal experience the pressure has dropped after 1 month usage & no pumping. i did a comparison on both cases. Both cases, only drive to & fro office & home, some drivings at town.
above is just my personal experience, there are still many factors need to be considered in order to get a fair comparison.

if he had no problem on other brands...then it could be that tyre manufacturing fault?

steering is lighter because lack of grip. Same case with me. Yesterday went a bit too quick on a corner exit and the steering swing out so quickly, almost didn't catch back on time laugh.gif

im now on 27psi (cold) on all wheels. i think i dun wanna use higher than 27 or 28 or even 29 psi cuz when driving the air gets hotter and the psi goes up higher thus, stiffer ride.

I think it all depends on the tire design. if the side wall is very stiff using lower psi gives u more comfort.

Eg. My Barum Bravuris sidewalls are much more stiffer than my Falken 522 sidewalls.

stock ori tyre 185/55/15R ..front 33psi ,rear 31psi (read from analog gauge) not really accurate tongue.gif

if u pasang 'giant' subs at your rear boot. u may increase some psi at rear.due to the weight.

Either to compensate for the extra weight distribution (engine/gearbox infront) or to change handling characteristic.

I have a question. currently using ek3, with 195/60/r15
it is a bit oversized compared to original 185/65/r14
the recommanded pressure from sticker is 30/29 psi from the stock tires, and I been following that.

I found it is underinflated, and recently I push it up to 35/32 psi front back. but I still feel front tires are a bit underinflated.
the tire max PSI is 51 though.

Any sifu able to tell me how much pressure will be better?

195/60/R15

Recommended : Front ( 210 ) Rear ( 190 )
Max : 350kPa ( 51psi )
kPA Pumped : Front ( 230 ) Rear ( 210 )

Feels much smoother and lighter yet steady.

Might trying out 240 and 220 next time.

i can!
depends whether u have FWD or RWD

its for the running wheels. cuz they produce more torque generally n work on a higher load.
on RWD we pump the rear tyres higher
