I do share the same idea with Audio Nirvana as RM3.6K+ could buy better speakers. As for sub, SW150 or MS309 is very good and cheap too.

Yeah I use 5.1 also. I just borrow another pair out of curiosity only. The 7.1 sound I like but the mess in my living room of wiring for another 2 speakers, I don't. So I guess I just stick with 5.1 for a while until I get dedicated room for AV. Have you tried bi-amping your main speaker with the 7th channel? I can't try that since my main speakers are not bi-amp/bi-wire type

Anyway the surround back channel can be use to connect to ur front speaker if ur speaker got 2 pairs of input.
So that way ur main speaker has one dedicated channel handle the low and another dedicated handle mid and high.

Plaster walls is good to hide your cables .... but renovation costs extra

I saw some wireless rear speakers but performance is bad....

Most people will hide their cables below the carpet...

Just make sure u buy a good quality cables....coz..it is not easy to change it after that.

How much is the Velodyne? Where can demo? I saw the spec for 8 inch one even better than my 10 inch yammy sub. Kind of tempting.

where got...me still using peasant 40" LCD TV nia...and el-cheapo sony satellite speakers and lousy speaker wire.....and only entry level speakers for front....

where can match your 100" screen with real HT feel....

Just visited Desa Kepong last week. They didn't have SW250, but a WH series, 210 I think. Maybe their Lowyat Plaza branch has it.

The Kepong HQ is at the Desa Kompleks, between MRR2 and Jalan Kepong, not far from Jusco Metro Prima.

Tabley pakai la this Legend, kambeng betol! Yesterday when I went there asking for the RX-V663 they said got stock but after paying they said no stock, will only arrive today. Fine, I'll come pick up after work today but when I went there just now they said tomorrow only arrive!     

I read review Velodyne subs perform very good with movie but mediocre with music. The subs is all about power but not finesse. Owners got any comment?

Wharfy subs cheaper but don't know whether as good as Velo or not.

U know when I stayed in SS1 last time Legend is a very good shop. All my household electrical equipment totaling RM30k+ bought from them. Then I move house and after a few years when I go back there again, they have grown from 1 door to 3 doors but surprisingly the good service has gone. I thought maybe I got a "kambeng"  salesman the 1st time so I don't mind going back for yammy sub but got the same experience. I only bought my 663 there bcoz I can't find it elsewhere cheaper than them

Allrighty then but I kinda like the shape of wharfy 250 and not to mention the close box and down firing which is better for music. Anyway will demo both when I can find the time.

Velodyne CHT-R series is made primarily for movie. SW250 is with music in mind. However, it couldnt keep up with the sheer room shaking power of CHT-10R in movie.

Then again, SW250 is a nice looking sub while CHT is a bit dull looking. Both with remote for convenience.

Yes, you can use the existing 5 speakers, later on when you have more budget you can upgrade to higher range speakers. On the 663 you MUST set it as 6 ohm. Any speakers lower than 4 ohm will give the receiver a hard time, and may overheat.

For the sub, you'll need a separate amp, as most AV receivers only has pre-out (sending out the signal non-amplified). My advice is to get a new active subwoofer.

You'll always get to hear the 5.1 audio codecs, and with 663 even the HD lossless tracks, for this part, it's the receiver that's important. But to get the best sound, you'll need good speakers.

Not sure about 663, but my 1800 can upscale analogue sources (S-video/RCA, not digital sources like HDMI) to up to 1080p. But I can only see little improvements, because Astro quality sucks to begin with. Like people always say, rubbish in rubbish out.

I don't have any experience with the Pioneer receiver though.

Anybody knows a place that can repair amps? The rear right channel of my old amp kaput edi. I've change speakers, cable, use bare wire, use banana plug, clean the contact point with alcohol... still no sound
