htkaki, yamah pricing for spore and msia not much difference, in fact, the 1800 cost more in spore

i think becos the dealer is the same, tats why pricing is controlled
*
Yamaha RX-V1800 is made in Perak, should be cheaper here since you need to transport that thing over to Singapore. Other brands might be cheaper in Singapore.

i think so.. cannot be that price
*
Yalor, since when we get to buy cheap Hi-Fi stuff in Malaysia, even Yamaha is made in Malaysia, the price is definitely not made in Malaysia. If it's imported from Japan and they sell at RM2K, I'll say that it's a good buy. tongue.gif

Maniac, try Wharfy SW150 for a lil over RM1K. Nice bgt entry sub.

Sham73, Yammy 663 aint here yet. Only launched overseas. Maybe a month or two, it will reach our shore.
*
Itu Yamaha made in Malaysia, why they launched it overseas first? Strange leh. hmm.gif

QUOTE(mpyw @ Mar 17 2008, 02:10 PM)
Just like Gen-2 mar....launch in Thailand 1st...

same like SONY receiver also what...the SONY is even worst...it's available freely in US/EU but in boleh land....u have to make special order and wait for 2-3 months for the unit...I wanted to get the DG910 b4 buying my V861 but Sony said it's a "high end" model here so have to make special order and funny thing is, they put in in their quarterly promotion booklet.... shakehead.gif  doh.gif
*
Itu pun belum teruk lagi, our local version, the newly launched Sony Bravia W400 series doesn't have 100 Mhz motion flow even though it's a full HD panel but the equivalent model in the US, V4100 has 100 Mhz motion flow and a host of exclusive features at a cheaper price. doh.gif Potong steam ..... mad.gif

QUOTE(Maniac @ Mar 18 2008, 12:06 PM)
alright TQ,  not sure if i can find anything from Style Photo Penang road, I got my 459 there few years ago.
*
Style Photo doesn't sell B&W speakers but nowadays their audio room is not as good as last time, I have stopped going there since 10 years ago.

QUOTE(yfyap69 @ Mar 18 2008, 02:54 PM)
Yeah, maybe they will have it as they are the reseller for Wharfedale. By the way, do you know where is this shop located? Penang Rd is quit elong leh?
*
The shop is located opposite Komtar's row of goldsmith shops along Penang road, before the traffic lights. You can't miss it. Next to it is the famous Penang Road chicken rice stall. laugh.gif

Betul2 potong steam..
how about yammie amps? is that any diffrent between m'sia market & overseas one?
*
Well, for example, like the RX-V1800, certain features are not the same as the US version, though not important or won't spoil our listening sessions but felt cheated mar since we're paying more and getting less. mad.gif

QUOTE(Maniac @ Mar 18 2008, 11:39 PM)
ohh so bad?  I rarely visit "hi-end" shop coz i try not to get myself poison.  when i need a AVR last time, my fren told me to go there then I buy on the spot the 459, not sure if I kena chop head or not also. but the guy quite friendly lah.

That particular chicken shop, once i bring my family go eat there, they all agreed that the chicken chopped and served like dog food. lol
quite expensive to me, but the taste is OK.
*
Last time, Style Photo very high end one, they have Mordaunt Short, Tannoy, KEF, JBL, Wharfedale, Cerwin Vega, Cabase, PSB, etc but now very limited brands left. Not to perli or anything lah, I guess they're not into high end stuff now, more towards mainstream stuff.

That chicken rice shop ar ...... last time used to be okay but now, not only expensive, the chicken looked dried up and not fresh, the drinks lagi teruk, no flavour at all and dare to charge me RM1.20 for one 'teh peng' vmad.gif Mau kena satay liao.

Nvm lor, next time when you're in Penang, I take you jalan jalan around Komtar. tongue.gif Back to memory lane. laugh.gif

QUOTE(yfyap69 @ Mar 19 2008, 09:15 AM)
Thanks for the info. So in Penang how many hifi shops are there? Here are those I had checked out :

1. Hifi Choice - Midlands => Wharfedale, AE, Monitor Audio, Yamaha
2. Watts Hifi - Perak Road => Onkyo, Mordaunt Short
3. AV Dimensions - Bayan Baru => Wharfedale, Pioneer, Denon
4. Central Audio - Siam Road => JBL, Harmon Kardon, Infinity
*
FYI, these shops can get other brands for you too even though they're not displayed in their shop.

I am staying at Sg Ara, sipeh kana near to Bayan Baru.

Central Audio ppl a bit lansi one, last time I went in for one time while I run my business at siam road.
*
Central Audio? Yeah, I remembered them, I asked them whether got discount for the JBL Control 1 rear speakers, they told me the price was firm even thought they were the last pair there. Surprisingly, many ppl buy from them. doh.gif

there lansi coz they have already so many buyers~~who can afford juz go n buy haha~~my fren also experience 1 times buying speaker set from there
*
Lansi no point, they have forgotten that they're in Penang, Penangites are price sensitive and they want the best service, with this type of attitude, they won't go far for sure.

Bro, not only Penang kia. I guess almost everyone in Bolehland is the same. Price comes first. But, arrogant and stubborn salesppl is sure a turnoff.  doh.gif
*
I guess the spending power in KL more geng than here. People in Penang are more price sensitive b'coz disposable income is not as much as people staying in KL. This is thru my personal observation, even my friend said, the Yamaha RX-V1800 also hard to sell in Penang but in KL, some ppl find it cheap and reasonable. Most of the hi-fi stuff sold at my friend's shop are mostly budget range to be honest.

Added on March 22, 2008, 10:13 pmnow im thinking the titanium color for the yamahas quite cun lah. better than boring black....
*
Wow, power, can nego until RM3,600 but I'm unable to get this price here in Penang. The lowest is only RM3,750. Some shops in upper class areas are selling it at RM4,300. doh.gif

QUOTE(DigitalKL @ Mar 23 2008, 08:01 PM)
so lets say rxv1800 is rm3600 and rxv663 is 2k
which will you go for and why?
*
RX-V1800, 5 simple reasons:

1.) RX-V1800 comes with Anchor Bay upscaling chip, same chip used in Arcam's award winning dvd player.

2.) Has more RMS per channel, can drive big or small speakers with low sensitivity with ease.

3.) Stable RMS power across all channels, whether 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1

4.) Better Burr Brown DACs used.

5.) Components used are of different grade, RX-V1800 is more towards audiophile quality but RX-V663 is for budget range.

I must confessed that I am a little greedy. I shall wait for 863 and see what's the pricetag. Hope it is way lower than 1800.  rolleyes.gif

Wah ........ so fast thinking of another subwoofer. Scared lo ........ imagine htkaki punya AV setup got two subwoofers.

Both should be using the same components, just the the RMS per channel is higher. Sometimes, a modest amp will do, very seldom we use all the juice to watch a movie.
