QUOTE(asciii @ Apr 24 2008, 01:27 PM) i think 661 and 663 still share the same core and similarity... so im gonna menyibuk on this one I use manual setup. YPAO auto settings was all over the place. my speakers (center - front L&R - Surrounds L&R - Surrounds back L&R) all i set to SML. ( i think on the manual says for speakers that have woofer dimension below than 16cm use SML) Crossover i set in range of 90 -100 kHz. Subwoofer phase set to normal. EQ set to match center channel Speakers level all set manually, all same level. Speakers distance also manually Dynamic Range i set to normal. and for movie viewing i always use Yamaha DSP Movie-spectacle settings. I tweak the delays, room size manually to match my room size add a bit reverb and the DSP level is +2dB. for concert viewing i use Entertainment-Music videos settings. once i got my hand on a SPL meter, im gonna recalib again. QUOTE(megatron007 @ Apr 24 2008, 01:58 PM) u all like to use EQ EQ hor? i guess in my situation, when i activate the 'Pure-Direct' mode (means my AVR will use straight signal from output, and shut off all unnecessary circuits so pure signal could be attain) the sound sounded mushy and kinda thin. when i de activate the 'Pure-Direct', then the sound gets fuller and rockin. after adding EQ on to match center channel, the sound gets more deeper and clear.HT-EQ suppose for those source which is not "so good" to improve or enhance it else AVR EQ should be OFF so the source can be "AS pure as studio intention" |

QUOTE(Moogle Stiltzkin @ May 12 2008, 02:05 PM) But from my understanding, if do this way, doesn't that mean the amplifier will be processing the video instead of the PS3 ??? I hear the 663 is limited in terms of video scaling and etc. So wouldn't it be better for the PS3 to handle video, and the PS3 to handle only audio ?? nah, ur 663 will pass the video signal... only process the MPCM audio.. so no PQ affected.. dun worry Thanks everyone Which HDMI cable do i buy, the cheap Rm 20 one, or the expensive Rm 100+ hdmi cable ?? HDMI cable? theres is a lot of bickering/debates/fighting/war between cheap & branded/expensive one. So if u ask me, i'll go for cheap one (coz digital, 1, 0 thingy) and i look at the build quality also. |

Added on August 11, 2008, 10:20 am QUOTE(callmevil @ Aug 11 2008, 06:41 AM) always have been meaning to ask this.. why is it everytime i switch channel to the yamaha to show my ps3, the whole screen goes Fuzzy and crackling sound can be heard on all speaker channels for a couple of seconds before everything clears up? i dun know abt the fuzzy screen or speaker sounds, but clanking sound when switching channel is normal.always always always... QUOTE(s6xs9x @ Aug 27 2008, 12:56 PM) i have good ol' v661.and previously i was so excited about this feature. But the reality is u only can use 'presence on - surr back off' or 'presence off - surr back on' so if u care about the surround back output, u cannot use presence speakers ability. But nonetheless its a fine features by yamaha. Sometimes u watch concerts, u dont really need the surround back. so you could use the presence speaker and apply effects to it. most notable one is 'dialog lift'. it can lift u the center (voice) channel up to your listening (preferred) position and really makes u into the scene. Other than that it could use to further enhance the DSP effects. unless u elite enuff and opt for RX-Z11, u could use all 11 channel discreetly; presence, surr, all on.
