I'm a student about to transfer to australia..I'm looking for a good gaming laptop thats able to play high quality games : WoW , Warcraft 3 etc but still be able to surf the web smoothly, play songs and movies, and have a good sound system(are there any laptops with Altec Lansing sound system ? ).I don't need top end laptops like Alienware but I still want something good and can be bought in KL.I surfed the web and found the Gateway brands (P-6831FX and P-171XLFX ) and also the Dell XPS M1730.How much would those cost in RM ? and if they aren't suitable , any other recommendations ?

P/S Price not certain yet..so just list out the prices and I will consider.
*
High end Gateways are not avaible straight from the shop. They would probably ask you to wait while they order or just tell you to order from the website itself. You can cuztomize the Dell's on their own website and see the price from there.

I would recommend the Asus G50 if you're looking for something that can be bought in Malaysia, about RM 5.8k. If you're looking for more power at the same price, come visit the Sager thread tongue.gif

Hi, looking for a laptop that can run 3D graphic processing (Maya 3DMax and flash) Budjet around 3k-6k. Please give me a couple of recommendations.
Thanks in advance...
*
Any laptop with a dedicated graphic card can do that. You have any considerations in mind? screen size, weight ... colour(playful or bussniess like?) Would help narrow down our recommendations.

If possible (which I dont think so) I want something that is light 2.5kg <. Screen size around 15". I think weight is the main issue since I will be traveling around. I think is going to be expensive? Rite?

Can you give me a couple of options. Thank you so much.
*
MacBook Pro fits that description nicely smile.gif 15inches usally aren't that light so your choice becomes very limited.

Do the Dell XPS M1730 and Sager NP8660 have to be ordered ? Or can I just get them from a shop in KL ? Also which among these are the best for gaming and still have good sound systems - Dell XPS M1730/BenQ S42/Asus G50/Sager NP8660/Dell Inspiron. Also , can anyone list out all the prices ?

Lastly, what are the latest models for the Dell XPS and Inspiron line and the BenQ line ? Anyone know ?

P/S Anyone heard of the Asus G71 ? My friend is getting one of those but I think it is new ?
*
The Sager NP8660 would be best for gamming IMHO. and its lighter (cheaper too) than the Dell XPS M1730 . Both have to be ordered, as I've yet to see a 17inch XPS lying around a Dell Outlet.

For dell, try visiting their website for alook. listing out the models here would mean nothing tongue.gif .

The Asus G71 is the big brother of the G50. Comes with faster processor and bigger screen(17inch) but rest of the specs are the same.

Ok let' say weight was not an issue. Since Im not that keen on a mac. Rather have a normal lappy. Any other recommendations. Thanks a lot of helping me.

Any of the XPS line from dell, or the HP Dv5 smile.gif

QUOTE(FrostLance @ Oct 31 2008, 01:37 AM)
surely S42 wins lor.. the GC is much superior. XPS 1330 only have 8400GS compared to the power of 9600GT of S42

BTW can anyone gove their opinion,
Im looking for a gaming laptop..budget around 6k 4 gigs ram and at least 9600GT or better plz.
Heavy gamer but budget strictly at 6k+++. SIZE n WEIGHT is NOT an issue for me.

Dont want benq S42 coz had bad experienced with S41. Dont like the victorian Design also. LOL.
How much does HP DV5 with the 9600GT cost? Or shuld i Saved for to get Asus G50.
Also thought about getting the Sager, but its kinda impossible for me to order from outside of malaysia and the no warranty is really a big issue if im planning to use the Sager for pure gaming purpose.
Any other recommendations? Plz include price also TQ!

not going for sager anymore? sad.gif

I think if you don't mind the design, go for the ASUS G50 thumbup.gif my friend has one and he's statisfied with it.

shd i get centrino with 8400gc or shd i get a newer centrino 2 with GMA graphics? in terms of speed and graphic how much difference?
*
Speed wise, the old or new centrino's will be the same. The new one's will give you more battery life. Depends on which GMA graphic also. The (GMA) 4700MHD wins the 8400 wink.gif

actually, even if the intel graphic card wins, it would possibly be plagued with compatibility issues, as not all games were designed around these cards.
*
there are applications to trick the games into thinking your intergrated card is something else smile.gif

Hey ppl. I need help too...
Going to start college soon. Studying business stuff. Also like to surf web and play online games.

1) Brand
No idea. Dunno which brand is best.
2) Budget
sad.gif Below RM2800...
3) Spec
High speed, good graphic
4)Size
A light as possible. 14' or 15'

Acer really that bad? Heard lots of complains before...

Oh ya. Would like to know which processor is the best now. Dual Core or Core2 Duo or Centrino?
*
Centrino2 is the current king in terms of performance : battery life ratio smile.gif And also full Wireless N support. I would get something from Dell with that budget. Acers ... generally have lousier build quality and bad heat dissipation.

QUOTE(ubikeledek @ Nov 27 2008, 10:35 AM)
Oh is it the price range too high? Well I think I'll put it 3 -3.5k. Hehe. One more thing, I'm an engineering student. So I will be using MATLAB or AutoCAD and some other softwares and also for playing games so I wish for a laptop that can handle these softwares. I've looked at Macbook, but dun think so would consider it. I think some of the softwares like the AutoCAD is not compatible with it, need to boot using windows pulak, kinda complicated, so anybody would recommend any laptop? BenQ is it good? I've never seen it closely before.
*
I'm doing engineering also. You don't need anything high end for those programs. Yeap, the BenQ is a good buy.But if you can wait, try waiting for a month or so , since it's almost xmas... the time when product releases become much more frequent icon_rolleyes.gif

guys quick question here...going to buy netbook 2moro and confuse which one to choose...the Acer AOA150 or the Lenovo S10...both spec is quite same except the screen size of course...
*
I suggest the Acer AOA150 aka Aspire One. It's cheaper and has everything you could want from a netbook, it does have a weird design for the touchpad tho. It has a bigger keyboard than the Lenovo S10.
