You guys must realise that a boxed expansion is way off the timeline. Probably a year plus. The first micro expansion also got delayed...so you can guess lah how long will the boxed expansion take to be released.

Ironclad and Stardock are pleased to announce that the beta for Sins of a Solar Empire: Entrenchment will begin Tuesday, December 16th.  Please note that all pre-orders will be charged tomorrow when the beta is made public.

Entrenchment requires the full version of Sins of a Solar Empire v1.12 and will only be available via Impulse (http://www.impulsedriven.com).  While the beta will be English-only, we expect the final release to be available in several other languages as well through cooperation with Kalypso.
I'm gonna pre order today and get the beta rclxms.gif I'll report back to you guys about it once i have got it.

Welcome to the beta test for Sins of a Solar Empire - Entrenchment!  This micro-expansion is jam packed with enough features to qualify as a full fledged expansion pack, so we know it'll keep everyone busy for quite awhile.   That said, this is a beta - put simply this is going to be very buggy and somewhat unbalanced.

If you don't want to deal with bugs, balance issues or providing feedback to improve the game please wait for the final release!

The Entrenchment beta is available in English only!

Here are the highlights for Entrenchment:

   * Starbases:  Construct powerful bases within any gravity well to help fortify your empire and project your power across the stars.  Each race's base is unique and upgradable with a number of abilities via research.
    * Defense Tech Tree:  Improve your defenses with the new Defense tech tree. Here is where you'll learn how to build starbases and upgrade them, in addition to improving your existing defense technologies.
    * Upgraded Defense Structures:  Improve your defense turrets and hangar bays with new abilities and better firepower!
    * Mine Fields:  Each race can now build (with the appropriate tech) mine fields within their gravity wells (or those of others).  These powerful devices can lay waste to an incoming enemy fleet if positioned properly.
    * New/Updated Frigates/Cruisers: New and updated frigates and cruisers will give you the power to lay mines, establish starbases or bring them down with powerful attacks.
    * Improved AI:  The AI has been improved substantially to be more deadly than ever before and now uses fleet tactics better.
    * Improved Graphics:  New stellar backgrounds, particle fx, and textures make Sins look better than ever.
    * and much more.

To install Entrenchment:

   1. First, you will need the full version of Sins of a Solar Empire v1.12.  This update can be obtained via Impulse (http://www.impulsedriven.com).
   2. Once your pre-order is charged, you will see Entrenchment appear in Impulse under your My Games tab. Just click the Install button and Impulse will handle the rest.
         1. If you don't see Entrenchment appear after getting your order receipt via email from us, try Checking for Updates in Impulse (click the Stardock orb in the upper-left and select Check for Updates).
         2. If that doesn't work, you can manually register your Entrenchment serial number in Impulse. Click the blue ? in the upper right and select Register a Product.
         3. NOTE: Your order number is NOT your serial number.  Your charged pre-order receipt will clearly list your Serial Number.
   3. Once Entrenchment is installed, regular Sins will disappear from Impulse.  You will only be able to play online against other Entrenchment players during the beta.

Posting about Bugs:

Please check out Annatar's stickied thread about providing feedback to us about the beta:

http://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/319171

Keep in mind that this version of Entrenchment is not finished. We're at the beginning of the beta process, not the end.

Here's some shots to give you an idea of the new features(some of it)...sneek peak...I've been playing TEC only for a while...haven't gone deeper yet...

user posted image
You can place mines in a sector...

user posted image
And they pop out...each mine will then be built by the constructor...it takes very fast to complete one mine.

user posted image
Anythin that goes over this is dead meat...Mines can only be detected by scouts...The scout has limited mine sensor range and will only reveal it for limited amount of time.

user posted image
New Rulov Heavy Contructor. The only constructor that can build your star base. It will be consumed when you build a star base. Move this to any sector that you want to have a star base.

user posted image
This is where i wanted to place my star base

user posted image
And its done...A bit too fast right now...But i'm sure it will be tweaked.

user posted image
This is interesting...you can upgrade your star bases...with many different things...

Apart from these...they have added a defense tech tree and removed the hangar bay and gauss cannon part from the military tech tree and put it in this defense tech tree. Flak cannon on hangar bay and extra guns on gauss cannons. New torpedo/missile units to destroy structures, instrumental in taking out star bases. Plus all the new stuff of the other factions....minor engine tweaks...some new particle effects...

I might have missed some...but in a nutshell Entrenchment adds a much needed dynamic in the game. It really improves what is already a great game. Obviously with Beta 1.0 its not quite perfect...no proper balancing done...with things like cost of producing these new units and build times, range all seem a bit off. But I'm sure things will get better as Ironclad irons out these issues....no pun intended... It is Beta after all.

Oh btw...you cant move your star base ...It is stuck to where you build it...except for the Vasari, they can move their star base in the same sector/grav well that they are built in(they cant phase jump...thank god). You can have more than one star bases...no unit cap...but i think you can only have one in a single grav well.

PS : Sins of A Solar Empire was picked as IGN's Best PC Game of The Year rclxms.gif

EDIT : The AI also seems to have been tweaked to be more aggresive with attacking your defenceless sectors.

Mind showing these new ships? tongue.gif Also the Advent starbase.

Thanks.

Entrenchment looks good now. Those addons are much needed in the game, especially the bland late game.

Couldn't get all new units yet...still playing the game...

PS : Any one of these star bases may look slightly different from other screenshots that are press released due to the fact that...the upgrade path may be different or haven't upgraded yet...the star bases will sport the new upgrades on them.

Advent one looks good.

Yes...mines are imba...but I'm sure they will tweak it...next stage of beta should be released soon...

As for the star bases...without upgrades they are about 3500 HP...but there is an armour upgrade that will make it 9000HP shocking.gif

Damn long waiting for these guys to update the beta lah...currently it is 1.0(plus one hotfix for a crash issue)

PS : Next beta should be good...especially when they have taken into account the feedback from the community...interesting to see what changes they make for balance...And just need to state...this is a REAL beta...not like Relic's DoW2...which is mostly stress testing network, or looking for network issues...

I think 9k is okay if they make it really expensive...the general consensus right now is that...starbases are too cheap...and its effective range too small...

I played easy AI le tongue.gif Just for the footages only...they never upgrade their starbase much.their economy hurt because i expanded faster and stop them from expanding..Also don't forget that Ironclad has introduced a new torpedo/missile unit....for you know that death star like eperience...they will be vital for taking the fully upgraded ones down.

A starbase that has its weapons sub system fully upgraded now can eaily take down a bunch of frigates in a matter of second...I'll see if I can make a new video with an upgraded starbase of mine
