actually the certification is just a compatibility wit the macs. because some cheapo rams like apacer or something even cheaper wouldn't work in a mac.
here is something wise you can do instead of getting a 2gb upgrade for RM299 in machines, get a value ram from corsair or mushkin. their 2gb single stick ram is barely RM200 and performs better than any other oem rams.
just my dua sen.

QUOTE but it just adds to the fact that the extra bit that we're paying extra money for is the mere exclusiveness and branding alone. not true. KTA RAMS are guaranteed not to cause kernel panics. if they do, you can return them for another stick, because working KTA RAM is guaranteed by Kingston to work perfectly. the certificate only works when something like kernel panics attack your lappie. if not, this piece of paper is for bragging rights only.
if you want my 2 cents worth of advise, for rm 400, head down to lowyat and you can get 2 sticks of 2gb kingston/corsair for rm 300 (thats the price i paid last month) or less (i am sure it's lower now)
so far, there is only like what? 2 out of 100+ users who complain about their value RAMs

So, despite Apple allowing DIY RAM upgrades within warranty period, do the RAMs have to be removed when sending the Macbook in for service/repairs?

i intend to get 2x2gb ram for my new macbook.
According to apple website, the spec required is 667MHz DDR2 (PC2-5300) 2x1GB SO-DIMMs and i checked with machines, the staff mentioned KTA ram. Shops selling KVR ram.
What's the difference between KVR & KTA? could we use KVR?
Thanks for any advice as i'm still very new to apple world.

Some users have successfully installed KVR RAMs into their Mac and runs without problem and some not. So using KVR RAMs sometimes will work and sometimes it will not.
Conclusion is better get those Apple Certified RAM.
Or if you want to play around with these IT electronics, go ahead and try each RAM and read more articles about it.

I have Corsair Value RAM since April 2007 and I had no problems so far. thanks

This ram promotion thing, for machines members only or open to all?
The advertisement on the web page itself is confusing. Suddenly one place say for member, then the other side didnt say anything about member.
Thanks.

kwekeugene i think you don't understand. we do not recommend our customers ever to use KVR (ValueRAM). if you have problems with ValueRAM, we will first test with original Apple RAM. so, I don't have any idea how often my customers have problems with ValueRAM.
