For those intending to take up part time work, you should ensure that you are signing into a fair contract and working the appropriate hours. Do not get pressured into working under unfavourable conditions as some employers are out there to exploit desperate international students, especially under these tight labour market conditions.

As a legitimately employed individual, you should also check your superannuation entitlements, benefits & awards, file your tax returns each FBT, etc.

You should remember that your first and foremost responsibility here is to study. You should not expect to work to cover your tuition or basic living expenses, but mainly to gain the experience which will be useful for graduate employment.

Ok just wanna ask a question here especially responsibility wise in employment in Aussie under student visa.

Lets say you work ILLEGALLY (no black & white record of your employment) BUT you have a working visa attached to your student visa and the employer just wanna rip you off by paying below the minimum wage remuneration. (hence the black & white terms). Provided the individual did not exceed his/her 20 hours per week condition, what if: You met a serious accident ?
so ...
i)do the employer have a responsibility to cover your medical expenses?
ii) can you claimed from your insurances ?

(i) The employer will pay for your medical expenses, or else he/she will be penalized by gov. for paying lower than minimum wage AND for employing illegally without any documents
(ii) No, because you don't have black/white document to say that you work and the insurance company will only accept black/white docs.

This is a Catch 22 situation. Don't the government also take appropriate action on you for working illegally?

Yes, but you have a working visa, and working less than 20 hours a week.
On the other hand, the employer would want you to keep quiet.

yeah i was thinking abt the same thing.
Anyway thx chris_c28 and zltan. i do agree that employer will want to keep you quiet, if the general public finds out then probably customers will shun the place. Anyway thx again.

Yeah... basically the easiest way to do it is to turn your clock backwards one hour at 12am. I tend to turn it back just before I go to sleep tongue.gif

Hurrah... closer 1 hour to Msia rclxm9.gif

Damn it's like winter now in Melb... freezing doh.gif
