just stumbled upon this, i'm a cellist myself. been playing since practically when i was in secondary school. stopped taking classes few years though.

p/s 2: do you guys have gatherings or meetups?

i studied cello for 3 months under an ex-mpo musician, and probably learned more in technique and tone than i've learnt in 4 years of local teaching.

having said that, mpo musicians are not extreme maestros, its just that their level of playing is far superior to even the best malaysia has to offer. my ex-teacher is actually having a hard time finding a place as a cellist even in a local city orchestra back in his country Germany now (he was the principal cellist for the mpo a couple of years back). such is the standard in europe.

plus, the salaries they receive from playing under petronas is obscene in comparison with other western countries. high competition lol

quick question to yunnie, empire and paramore:

Whom are you guys currently learning cello under?

Would be great if you guys could list down the location, music school etc. as it will be a general help to those wishing to take up the cello.

haha same here, but ofc i still keep up with playing the cello. particularly classical stuff to maintain my technique and most other times light stuff along with a few friends.

Just for the record kimmie, have you ever played in an orchestra before?

Kinda hard pressed to find good orchestras these days. =/
