i had my 1st violin lesson today. man, m shoulder is tired. and is so hard to hold the bow still. i keep touched the other string sad.gif
*
i spend 30min everyday last time just to get the right position for holding the bow. got some help from a friend who now studying music too, intensif training on how to hold bow.

i think if not wrong after awhile, teacher notice i hold bow very well and praise me for it.

Work hard and u get good results.

they are no shortcuts.

teacher guides, u practise.

No practise= no result.

if u play only once a week during lesson, comparing training 7 days a week, u are only learn 7 times slower than others.

Certificates are useless if you take a deep look. More over, I am studying my second diploma now.

Since when I put on the female tag??

like since i donno.

certificates are useless, yes, ut an firm basic education is required for lasting career. they are too many diploma everywher.

we must try to strive for degree or masters in oversea university/colleges.

during those time, we will be expose to more gerne of music, understnading, and learn more things. we must not confine ourself only to malaysia.

oh well, i have no right to speak for u

Career wise, right now I am satisfied with it. I would like to express that I do not live my life for money or easy living.

One more thing, diplomas are everywhere. If you know something about most college, those students used to bride for assignments. Which is asking for friends to help them out and pay the ones who helped them. Just like corruption. For music, I do not think it is possible unless students bride examiners (not lecturers).

One last important thing, skills are nothing. Passion and understanding music is the core of being a musician.

A degree? So what? Can you explain why Beethoven wrote Fur Elise for? Or how does pentatonic scales works? How does chords was formed?

*
i understand what you mean.

but an oversea education will bring much exposure to the world of music rather than closing our doors only to malaysia.

and thou we dont make music for money, we still need money to live.

is a win-win situation going oversea.
u are more expose to music and better understnading to musical culture oversea. u will be more informative and bring back a new set knowlege.

passion and understanding music is the core of being a musician, YEs!
but u can get more passion and understanding overseas!

We must try to expand our knowlege.

a wise person who have much wisdom thinks that he does not know enough.

that are so many more things to learn, try to expand the view.

hopefully u dont flame me back and try to understand what im saying.

As donald trump stats:" even if you have skills and passion, without a basic education, you are nothing".

we must think for our future as well. u must try to get further education if possible.
And going overseas means learning more!

he probably thought FTCL is the end of learning journey. hmm.gif
*
maybe.
there are still far more things to learn where we cant get in malaysia.

why would a person want a master degree teacher than a diploma?
easy, he has more knowlege.

i rather have a teacher who is expose much to the world and understand many things, rather than a teacher thinking that having a diploma and can play well means u are the best.
many ppl can play well, look at the prodigies all over the world, BUT is the understanding and knowlege that counts.
thou, learning has no ends.

hopefully he gets that into his head.

no offense.

Agreed and I am funding to get away from this country actually. Nothing much I can say.
No, there is still more and endless.
It is okay. For the questions up there because they just want that freaking certificate. Common answer but I do not look up on that. My humble point is that I do not like people who thinks that certificate is powerful.

What are we talking is degree in the beginning. Personally, I still think degree is not a must. Just me, alright?

And little ice. Sorry that I could not as I do not have recording equipment. I thought of this some time back.

No, I did not choose Zigeunerweisen. I am a cellist, nothing special for me in that piece (just my view). I choose Beethoven's Fifth and Ninth, Mozart and Bach that I have forgot. Conducted Beethoven's Piano Sonata #14 with self orchestra arrangement for my exam.

ooh thumbup.gif

At last XD end of flame war.

those ppl who go for cert why do we need to bother them? just let them be. they go there siok siok because their parents are rich=.=

we are the kind where we need to save just for an oversea education doh.gif

well, for career wise, a degree is vital for a stable future. u wont want to be a diploma holder for the rest of your life=.=
and yes, cant wish to see the enviroment oversea, all the knowledge!

im planning for a masters T.T hopefully save enough+loan cry.gif

for me, the more u study, the more u gain, the more u travel, the more you learn, the more you work, the more you receive.

Once again I would want to apologize that I am not feeling well these lately, so my words came out are wrong.

Talking about education, degree is the highest of all. Master classes are exist but those are offered by experienced famous professionals. Keeping it clear, master is not a paper education.

I know there is a musician who is holding a diploma for the rest of his life, he is not around anymore. He passed away at the age of 80, he is a famous performer back then. I know him but I forgot his name , I study his history in my history studies. Conclusion, if really wants to go big, just take the effort to degree or master.

Even my boss, he is just a diploma holder and he is doing quite well today.

We need money to live but there is not a need to be crazy for money.

doh.gif  doh.gif  doh.gif
*
ya, u can go far with a diploma.

but why stop if u can study further?? there is no pain learning more!

yup, if u want to be a millionare. dont be a musician.

but sometimes i see many music teachers who are not dedicated, they dont even have a good music education, they teach just because of the money, and when student come in, they give abit of theory homework, and walk out of the class to chit-chat. haiz.......... this kind of teacher ruins the beauty of the music and destroys the student's passion. they dont bother bout the student, and they are not dedicated.

I feel very lucky to have a good music teacher.
he ask me go down penang to find him during school holiday and he will take me around kai kai and discuss about my future.
he will always take me around places when there is oppurtunity.
lucky to have such a dedicated teacher

Alright, I am putting the spoiler because of avoiding long posts.

I have a plan, I wanted to be a performer, a singer/songwriter that most "modern musician" does today. I came this far with diploma is to at least know the proper education of music. So I think you got my idea of being a musician but what you said is good. There is a problem of me is I do not have the fund to continue degree, my parents have a problem on that.

I worked in the other music school before, I saw guitar teacher teach guitar tabs instead of notation. More over, they are just play-by-ear guitar player. That which is disappoints me the most. Talking about teachers giving less lesson in a class, that is applied to all the teachers in the previous music school that I worked with. It disappoints me even thought it is not by business. I did not debate with them, I know what is going to happen if I do.

Since today and forever, I am teaching my students "full "throttle". Let me tell you, every time when there is a new student enrollment I will ask them why they choose to learn this instrument. I will ask a few aesthetic questions.

After all, there is a lot of disappointments other than education.

*
actually, there are a fews ways. ur dream for degree is not hancur yet=.="

you can start saving 1k per month, and by the time you go like 30-40k( a few years of saving). you can apply for loan for oversea. then when you come back, you can slowly pay. many people do that now, and u pay like rm300-1k per month, so its worth the while!

go to ur trustd bank and ask about it thumbup.gif

well good luck, u can still suceed with diploma but why not go further?

just like a story my school teacher told me:
A boy said that his dad did not finnish form 2 and is driving mercedez.

then my teacher said that "if u study until standard 4, you would be riding an helicopter right?"

eventhou is funny, there's actually a lesson and moral in it.

think about cello, i will be rooting for ur suceess rclxms.gif

Is it possible to learn 2 kind of instruments at the same time??
well, I'm a college student now, I wanna learn violin and the chinese music instrument -- pipa at the same time which is next semester.
Hmm... still thinking is it possible
*
nothing is impossible.
as long as u practise each instrument with the right amount of time, and dont just play it once-aweek in lesson, then you will be fine.

oops.gif  I find this one, it may be of help to you.

Enjoy!!!

Am hoping to join the violin class soon. Also will get a violin soonest.

Cheers!!!

80 is quite cheap. if u are no ready to give out the money, dont waste ur time learning it as u are only wasting ur time as u r not dedicated.

Sorry to be direct, but u dont sem to put ur whole heart into it.

sit down and think, are u ready to give all u have to the violin? if so, u may proceed

spending such amount dosn't scare me off, but this is my reasoning; what can i achieve in such a short duration( 4 classes in 1 month ). Also i don't think spending more = tense dedication, cause i guess that's your concept. Dedication don't mean spending all your penny. you can spend less and achieve more  cool2.gif .

I will register for the 80rm violin course. Along my research i find a violin educator software which i think I'll prefer to use along.

hey here is the link, just in case anyone is intrested: http://www.dsminfo.com/musicked/musicked.htm

One more thing, I cant put my whole heart into it because i only wanna learn this for recreationa pupose. and for the fact that am addicted to classic music. hahahaha...
Cheers!!!
*
then good luck on to it!
i ask for double lessons and pay double cause 30min per lesson is too short.

i spend bout 4 hours per day on music, whereby piano would be 3hours or violin 1 hour, or 2:2 ratio.

as long as u practise everyday, all effort wont go to waste

Ahhh...good question. Yes, they are acceptable for beginners. All the China made except Eurostring.
#1, You can halt your lessons anytime but not more than 2 months (that is what music school follows). If it is over 2 months, you can resume it by paying the registration fees again.

#4, There is less digital tuners for violin in the market. But I sell pitch pipe at my shop, also I will teach you how to tune.

By the way, franstormer is my student now. He is already started playing a song on the violin after a first class with me. thumbup.gif

i use my laptop to tune my guitar and violin lol

if ur pc got mic pm me, i giv u the software

if you used to electronic tuner/PC, you'll won't be able to tune during performance.

first, pianist and violinist enter the hall, then 3rd people who's stage crew carrying a laptop, then the violinist tune and looking at the laptop, then the crew go back with the laptop...

or, every violinist bring out a small device which is electronic tuner, so everyone start to tune, but the tuner is capturing everyone's sound so the tuner indicator jumping up and down, then everyone start to scream "stfu i'm tuning"...

... rclxub.gif
*
i use my piano n ear for other times.

Wat i meant was we are on9, so got pc, and can give him a free software ma.

i like using the digital tuner and play infront of it, so i can see whether how "IN-TUNE" i play.

So more laptop detectt sound faster than an electronic device, so faster response

Just a little question. The electronic device tuner you mean is the guitar ones? Or the violin ones with E A D G on it?

And...have you try using tuning fork before?

Added on May 27, 2008, 11:09 pmlittle ice, are you a music teacher?

I have just came back from a Guild Australia examination board meeting. If you are a music teacher, I have something for you.

i use it to tune for both my guitar and violin. it detects any sound, u just set the frequency etc etc.

tuning fork? i think few years ago i use it.
