AHHHH, I'm itching to learn either cello or viola but they're really not cheap plus Malacca has no teachers for those instruments and my main priority is still guitar. I think I might pick up violin one day if I ever find a cheap violin.

QUOTE(little ice @ Sep 11 2010, 06:35 PM) they're as cheap as guitars. Yeap, that's what I've seen thru the sales section...

QUOTE(Cirno @ Sep 14 2010, 08:48 PM) Just got my violin today! Feeling quite happy about it! Now all I need to do is wait for the end of the year when I have the free time to go to a teacher... Meanwhile, are there any videos on the Internet that can help me occupied (and contain my anxiety) while waiting for the end of the year? Woah, how much did it cost you? Does it sound good? Sorry, can't answer your question, I'm just an interested violin learner.

Hmmm, is there anything I could use to dampen the sound of a violin? I've got some pissy neighbours, and even with my guitar, they get pretty annoyed, so I can't imagine if it's a violin cos the last time my friend played her violin, it was pretty darn loud and as far as I remember, when you first start playing it'll sound like a dying cat.

Hmm, any idea how much they run for? Checked in the classifieds but no results...

QUOTE(chienx @ Oct 23 2010, 11:47 AM) my vibrato is just can't do well. How ah? I feel my finger very stiff. Cannot vibrate fast. Pls recommend me way to improve.. I don't know about stringed instruments, but for guitar, what I would do is use the wrist to aid in vibrato rather than fingers. Like opening a door knob motion.

QUOTE(Karenalvin @ Oct 25 2010, 09:27 AM) jz follow watever your teacher says and practice more lo. the action of vibrato is pretty different from what muscles are used to - unless u are michael jackson it takes a couple of months to get used to it. so no point rushing. and freakfingers, i dun tink u are supposed to even use you fingers in initiating vibrato Yep, that's kinda what I meant, stiff fingers, more on wrist motion than anything else.

QUOTE(little ice @ Oct 25 2010, 08:18 PM) stiff finger is considered wrong by majority of violinists. it's simple, your finger's knuckle need to be moving to achieve a big and beautiful vibrato swing. there might be violinists with stiff finger vibrato but it's a very rare case. Really? Woah, I'm gonna have a hard time when I start learning violin...
