Bro, you can check out many music schools in yellow pages. They sell cellos for kids too. Cello players are in great demand cos there's too many violinists in malaysia. Look around and see if you dont believe. How many kids you know are learning cello?? HOW MANY ARE LEARNING VIOLIN??

Once your daughter grows up and IF she plays it well, she'll be so in demand..cos really....violinists outnumber Cellists like 10 to 1. Hard to find good cellists. I'm surprised you wanted your daughter to learn cello and not violin. Did someone advise you?

9 years old is considered a bit late to start...but better late than never. WHo knows...if she's very talented, she may catch up quickly. BUt you gotta push her to practise. If you as a father dont do that..dont expect any result. It's common sense.

I can recommend you a good cello teacher too. PM me.

Thanks a lot for your advise.

Actually i am a mother. She at first wanted to learn violin so i show her on You tube the different sound of violin and cello and then later she decided cello. I personally like the sound of cello but i never push or decide for my childrens what to learn but i let them decide instead. So recently she told me she want to learn a music instrument and ask her what she want , she said violin. So I provide her and let her listen a few instrument include yoyoma so she later on decided cello.

I have just enroll her class near my place and subang jaya on violin so now i have to change her to cello. The school do cello as well. i should have find out this forum so i will get some advise before i paid the registration. And still i try to get a used cello first for her to start and when she is serious and play well i would upgrade her instrument. However, need to look after my pocket as well tongue.gif ...

My elder daughter 10 yrs had guitar lesson for beginner but she stop and now she decided to go back again. She said she want drum lesson after her guitar . I have a Pearl drum set at home but kept in store. I learned drum but just few lesson then i stop due to my work and hard to practise at home without sound proof . Neighbour may not like it.

Anyway, thanks very much for your reply. cheers!

Hello paramore, thanks for your reply. is okay i am not looking for teacher, i am looking for used cello.

i am not a musician, i do have some listening and most of time i wish i could play hhahaha , but i am a bit late to learn i suppose so i am happy my children are initiate want to know more about music, music takes lot of patient and passion and i think they are beautiful. Any instrument have their own beauty.

So dont worry about whether you get any support or not, know what yourself want and interested with are matters the most. At the end of the day, you live your own life...

i really admire you all as musician.. keep it up
cheers.

Okay, I wanted to add something. You might want your child to know what is a viola too. Try to introduce them a wider range of instruments from woodwind, brass and percussion. Not to make your children to change their mind but to explore more. smile.gif

By the way, there is one shop that sells wide variety of strings instruments. I think they have used cellos. The shop is nearby KLCC, City Square.

cello newbie, it's never too late to learn anything... it may be a little hard coz we're not as flexible but as long as u have the passion, it's never too late. better late than never n like u said, "u live ur own life"... besides, practising with ur children may be fun too. ^^
