QUOTE(little ice @ Mar 6 2009, 01:44 PM) i never take any other grade except grade 8 for violin. saved me a lot of money. Hi little ice, I have been in this thread quite some time. You said you started playing the violin at the age of 18 and you just took one grade 8 exam. That sounds impressive! I wonder, it took you how long to get to that level? So I guess your major is violin?

QUOTE(little ice @ Mar 6 2009, 07:19 PM) took me 3 years. nope, my major is piano, but somehow violin give me more feel, and i can express myself more with violin. everytime i pick it up to play, i have a feeling that "this is the instrument representing my soul". we're talking about the grading system of those examination boards like ABRSM, Trinity, Guild Hall etc. they grade the level, grade 1~8, depends on the skill required to play the songs, sigh reading (means read taugeh and play on the spot), scales (do re mi fa so la ti do), aural (singing/hearing etc). after grade 8, it'll be diplomas already. Wow, 3 years..you are fast. I heard my teacher says that average is a year per grade. Sigh reading? What is that?

QUOTE(little ice @ Mar 7 2009, 12:11 AM) hey hey i practiced hard for that leh hahaha! you also mah, 13 years old (if i remember correctly) can get diploma already hehehe. not neccesary a grade per year, it's not surprising that there're a lot of 12 years old can get grade 8/diplomas. i've even come across a 10 years old kid playing diploma pieces, a local chinese kid, not some kind of angmo. typo la it's sight reading lol!! anyway whenever i try to do sight reading and always end up *sigh*. lol~ I see. I just started my violin class this month so I am still new to it.

QUOTE(little ice @ Mar 20 2009, 11:55 PM) i use Crown GLM-200 as the mic, going through M-Audio FW410, just that simple. the cello and harpsichord are virtual instruments played with keyboard... now i listen back again my hair stand cause really shaky playing and intonation. Ohh..you use a Mac? I never thought of recording anything before, kind of interesting. I think maybe your expectation is too high?

QUOTE(little ice @ Mar 21 2009, 12:20 AM) i use cubase. oh and forgot to mention, the mic is clipped on the chin rest and the mic is on top of the violin (some where around on top of the area between bridge and tailpiece) pointing the soundholes. I see. There is two mics? I think if the mic is too near to the violin, it will have difficulty to play.

QUOTE(little ice @ Mar 21 2009, 02:15 AM) no, it's clipped on the chinrest, but it's the holder that's clipped on the chinrest on one end, and the other end is the mic hanging in the air. Alright, now I get it. I am still playing children songs in my violin class.

QUOTE(kaiyikJr @ Jun 30 2009, 06:00 PM) Hi guys, can anyone of you recommend me a shop where i can change my violin strings and bridge and provides violin tuning? I learned violin last time for about 2 years before i stopped to further my studies, and now i wanted to play my violin again and its terribly out of tune, did try tuning it using the online violin tuner but i think i'm suck at it, coz no matter how i tune it, its just doesnt sound right.. Every violin shop does that. Check up the violin shop list on the first post of this thread.
