I believe Ray Clemence deserves a mention as he was a great keeper of his generation. Too bad there's another great keeper that made them rotate for international duty.

QUOTE(kobe8byrant @ Jan 23 2008, 10:56 PM) If you are talking best save, I remember Seaman had a very good one that made me go goo-goo-ga-ga. It was his last season, can't remember which team though. if not wrong, it is his last season at arsenal, fa cup against southampton, which bring arsenal into final, if not wrong. |

The legendary Lev Yashin. Anyone else heard of him, besides Jonno and me?

QUOTE(JonC @ Jan 25 2008, 02:10 PM) The legendary Black Spider, widely regarded as the best of the best. BTW for my above post, the one who takes turn as England GK with Clemence is Shilton. Wonder why there is shortage of world class gk for the English now as back in those days, there's loads of top class English keeper. And for Reds, special mention for Elisha Scott, longest serving player in Reds history at 22 years |

QUOTE(Duke Red @ Jan 25 2008, 11:03 AM) yaya. my bad. always confused with his name. thanks for correcting me, bro QUOTE(JonC @ Jan 25 2008, 02:10 PM) browsed thru the thread. he was in my list of damn ol' skool imo, ubaldo fillol is better than gordon banks. nobody ever mentioned about jean maria pfaff? playing as a gk and doing a homeworks on great gk of past and present s kinda interesting. |

Casillas, Buffon & Cech of the current crop & Reina gets an honourable mention as the current candidate for penalty king.
Goycochea during Italia 90, Khan during Japorea 02 were nearly unbeatable too. As for the old school keepers (Yashin, Zoff etc) I'm not sure how they'd cope with the back pass law & modern players whacking swerving shots at them from all angles (see the goals in the current African Nations). As for Schmeichel, he sometimes flapped at crosses & I'll always remember him for letting Basler score the 1st half free kick on his near post on that one night in Barcelona in 1999. |

QUOTE(ryanso85 @ Jan 25 2008, 02:24 PM) my vote go to van der sar...the best keeper for me... See the bold part & you got yourself an answer seldom make mistake...love him since he was in juventus... now he in my love's team....manchester united btw dudek is 1 of the best keeper...i wonder y liverpool let him go... keeper like dudek can b the best..he got the potential... the problem is he has to keep his concentration all the time Seriously he commits school boy errors which is costly in top flight football. As we know it is essential for great gk to keep concentration even when winning. Also he not getting younger hence the decision to let him go. QUOTE(JonC @ Jan 25 2008, 02:36 PM) Well you never mention Grobbelaar & Clemence either This post has been edited by vreis: Jan 25 2008, 03:45 PM |
