I believe Ray Clemence deserves a mention as he was a great keeper of his generation. Too bad there's another great keeper that made them rotate for international duty.

BTW for my above post, the one who takes turn as England GK with Clemence is Shilton. Wonder why there is shortage of world class gk for the English now as back in those days, there's loads of top class English keeper.

And for Reds, special mention for Elisha Scott, longest serving player in Reds history at 22 years

imo, ubaldo fillol is better than gordon banks.

playing as a gk and doing a homeworks on great gk of past and present s kinda
interesting.

Casillas, Buffon & Cech of the current crop & Reina gets an honourable mention as the current candidate for penalty king.

Goycochea during Italia 90, Khan during Japorea 02 were nearly unbeatable too.

As for the old school keepers (Yashin, Zoff etc) I'm not sure how they'd cope with the back pass law & modern players whacking swerving shots at them from all angles (see the goals in the current African Nations).

As for Schmeichel, he sometimes flapped at crosses & I'll always remember him for letting Basler score the 1st half free kick on his near post on that one night in Barcelona in 1999.

Seriously he commits school boy errors which is costly in top flight football. As we know it is essential for great gk to keep concentration even when winning. Also he not getting younger hence the decision to let him go.

Got the opportunity to watch some matches that he played through tv footages before youtube existed.

But sadly his 'days' seldom comes during his stay in Reds
Maybe it's the kamikaze defending that we adopted that time marred his performance

Blame it on his addiction to sony ps and lara croft.
