Haha~! Here we go again. Another offspring from a discussion from another thread laugh.gif

I've said it before, and I'll state it again. The best goalkeeper that I've ever seen with my own eyes is Peter schmeichel. Hoping his son (2" shorter) can live up to his name...and maybe transfer to Man Utd tongue.gif haha~! Hoping Ben Foster will recover quickly to take over Robinson...

In my lifetime, I'd say the Big Dane. The old farts needs to chip in with the older ones though.

If you are talking best save, I remember Seaman had a very good one that made me go goo-goo-ga-ga. It was his last season, can't remember which team though.

I always wonder why SAF got all those really inconsistent goalkeepers: Roy Carroll (ok lah...but not really good), Tim Howard (also ok only), Ricardo (huh?), Fabien Barthez (shortie that likes to let French compatriots from Arsenal to score...), Andy Goram (huh?), Massimo Taibi (this guys used to have potential but...), Mark Bosnich (a joke man...), Paul Rachubka (err...1 match man?), Nick Culkin (err...1 minute man?), Raimond van der Gouw (pretty good...but overshadowed by Schmeichel)...

And then, came Van der Sar thumbup.gif

Peter Schmeichel...

1. The great saves he made:

- His great saves are far too many to mention but highlights must be: his title winning performance away to Newcastle in 1996 when he withstood the black and white siege for 90 minutes and United won 1-0.

- His stunning save against Rapid Vienna later in 1996 was one of the all-time greats, similar to Gordon Banks against Pele (the youtube video madmoz pasted earlier), demonstrating amazing reflexes.

- Then there was his legendary last minute penalty save in the epic 1999 FA Cup Semi-final replay against Arsenal to deny Dennis Bergkamp (and lead United to victory and 1 part of the Treble). It was injury time.. almost 90 minutes in the match. Arsenal had a penalty, game was 1-1.. big pete made the massive save and prevented United from losing the Treble.

- His point blank save against Inter Milan's Zamorano in 1999 was another outstanding reflex save.

- For Denmark he was instrumental in the 1992 European Championships in Sweden. Pulling off a string of vital stops he helped the rank outsiders defy the odds and lift the trophy with a 2-0 win over Germany in the final.

- His save (from John Barnes's header vs Newcastle United away in 1997-1998 season) is nominated as the best ever save of the decade of EPL 1996-2006.

2. Not only he saves goals, he sometimes scores them.

- He scored a goal in the UEFA Cup match vs Rotor Volgograd.

- He scored a fantastic scissor-kick last minute equaliser against Wimbledon in an FA Cup 4th round replay in 1997. Sadly it was ruled out because he was offside.

- He even scored for Denmark from the penalty spot in a friendly International against Belgium in June 2000.

- Throughout his career, Schmeichel scored 11 goals, a great feat for a goalkeeper. The other great and mad goalkeeper to score goals are Chilavert and Rogerio Ceni. Buffon scoring how many goals?

3. Super strong hands that throws very long goalkeeper throws

- He has very strong hands and is able to do super goalkeeper throws that are as good as Glenn Hoddle's pin point accurate passes. His throws most of the times leads to an attack. This is thanks to his background of being a handball player.

- Not only that, but from close range he was the master. In his school days playing Handball he had perfected a strange star-shaped jump to cover as much of the goal as possible. There was this one massive save made by him vs Everton, he made a star jump and manage to block the goal from 3 attempts of goal at a go. Not to forget his star jump save against Zamorano when vs Inter Milan in the Treble season.

4. He is the most capped player for the Denmark national team, with 129 games and one goal between 1987 and 2001.

5. Until today, he holds the record for the greatest clean sheets-to-games ratio in the Premiership with 42% of the games he played in the Premiership ending without his team conceding.

6. Other interesting facts:

- He is huge. 193cm tall and wears XXXL sized goalkeeper kits.

- He is an avid musician. He is can play the piano and also enjoys the drums, flute and guitar. His father is a professional pianist and his mother and sisters also play.

- He was a contestant on the 2006 series of the BBC's popular Saturday night TV program Strictly Come Dancing. Here is the youtube link:

- He likes to scream and shout a lot to his defenders. Even to his ex-neighbour who is also his ex-defender and captain, Steve Bruce.

- He used to play as a striker when he was young.

By the way, I have a video of Peter Schmeichel called 'Peter Schmeichel: Definitely the greatest goalkeeper ever'. If any of you guys still don't believe how amazing he is.. you can borrow it from me. But it's VHS format (old tape format) so need to convert to vcd first.

Haha~! That must indeed be the best laugh that Rooney and Giggs had, watching O'Shea as keeper.
