I checked the forum for DV2000 club (since there is one for DV6000 series) but couldn't find one save for a HP and Compaq thread. I decided to start this forum specially for the proud users of all featured and most stylist laptop today, The HP Pavilion DV2000 series.

Welcome to all owners and the prospectives!

Yeah. A lot of people still prefer Acer and Dell but now it seems more and more people become design-cautious. Just give it a lil more time. I just started the post anyway.

I just checked the new DV2700 series. HP just released the '7' series for DV2000, DV6000 and DV9000. TX1400 also joined the new line. Nonetheless, nothing beat the Verve. Never seen a laptop that beautiful.

Vivala Pavilion!

and I found that it's quite laggy using windows vista premium with aero effect although this baby has dedicated graphic and 2gb of ram...

The overheating is due to various aspects. Vista not to mention Premium or Bz really makes your CPU and GPU work harder than they do with XP, hence the resulting heat.

My fren has a HP DV2100CTO with Core2Duo with no dedicated graphics and XP Media Center, the temperature was as regular as other notebook.
The fact that, it uses Dedicated Graphic further worsen the power consumption and heat production.

Pavilion DV2703tx for aunt?? Dude!!!

The Verve Imprint is DV2616tx. Only differ in CPU and imprint. Verve has 2.2ghz. Other specs same with DV2713tx. I think the price is RM5499. Add RM500 mo for the CPU and the imprint.

It's a limited edition, so better hurry.

Really love the imprint, best laptop design ever.

Yeah, Montevina with 45nm Penryn, DDR3 RAM and built-in WiMax!! But keep your expectation low, that just a proposed date. Hopefully, Intel will release around May as they did with their other Centrinos platform. That's like a whole new chipset altogether.

but, AMD Fusion is way cooooler!! CPU and GPU on 1 chip. Dowh!!

Welcome to the club dude!!

HP is quite stingy tho, even with all the superb specs and price still give GeForce 8400 (with only 64MB discrete RAM) duhs....

What can be said, expensive brand..

I gotta agree. My HP also very warm. The ventilation is rather poor. Can't really feel the air coming out. The heat is trapped inside.
Something is not right with the architecture.

Is there anyone who noticed the HP/MTV TAMA? It's basically, a laptop skin competition in conjunction with HP drive to make the computers
personal again. Contestant were required to send their self-designed laptop with messages to the world at heart.

I really love this kind of art competition but as u probably already knew the competition was long closed.

The winner was Portuguese Joao Oliveira with the theme "Asian Odyssey".

Checkout the winning designs at: www.mtv-tama.com

Officially, it is priced at RM3'999 but that's official. U can get a RM50-100 discount from any shop or maybe even more. If u wanna get good price, go to shop like Sri Computers or Cycom. Even better price are offered by kiosks but I don't think u would get the genuine HP carry case. U can buy the HP bag at RM50 anyway at lowyat 3rd floor.

i heard this from a fren of mine...
usually i will use the lappy battery itself when i use my lappy!
than when the battery finish,i'll charge it and use it at the same time!!
my fren say is better to directly use the ac power and take out the battery when using laptop!!that way,the battery wont spoil as fast?

since im a 1st time lappy user, i dun really know if thats true!
can anyone comfirm this?
and is it safe to take out the bttery and use ac power all the time?will it affect anything?
*
Yeah, your friend is right. Charging a laptop with the battery on would inexorably reduce its life-cycle . If u charge with the batt on, chances are, u will get half the battery life in just over 2 months in a single charge.

Nonetheless, it's inadvisable. Taking the battery out would cause the current to travel with a slightly different electrical circuit
than normally it would with the battery on as the batt act as medium with which the current complete its circuit. Without the batt, sometimes u wud feel a slight stinging sensation on your keyboard tho I'm not sure if this indicates a serious issue. I did feel it sometimes with the batt off.

However, the most probable scenario u wud get is a crack to your battery hinge or u may get a loose battery compartment which makes sound whenever u shake ur laptop.

Bear in mind, HP clearly warns in every their laptops' manual to not disassemble the battery. This may implies voiding of the warranty if found so.

I don't think HP Malaysia sell refurbished laptops as does DELL. Below are the refurbished/imported laptops which are not under the warranty provided by HP Malaysia. I believe there are more now.

- Pavilion dv6409us
- Pavilion dv6409tg
- Pavilion dv6433t
- Pavilion dv6174t
- Pavilion dv6563cl
- Pavilion dv2415nr
- Pavilion dv6305t
- Pavilion dv9310us
- Pavilion dv6448se
- Pavilion dv2550se

They may come with International Warranty but HP Malaysia won't be covering the warranty neither in parts or labors. Nonetheless, these laptops by no means are illegal laptops. If you are thinking of buying one or just realized you just bought one, warranty will be provided by the shops/resellers that sell the units. I heard there is a shop that sell this imported units from Taiwan, if you happen to have a problem, they will send the laptop to Taiwan for warranty claim but of course it will consume a lot of time and maybe cash for the shipping.

The good thing is, they give consumers extra choices, say the Pavilion DV2415nr. U can get a Pavilion DV2000 with webcam and remote control with less than RM3000 for a AMD Turion X2 processor.

Introducing the new HP Pavilion DV2800 Artist Edition Asian Odyssey.

Attached Image

The dude in the picture is none other than the Designer of the imprint himself, 21 years old Joao Oliveira who won the laptop DV2800
with his designed imprint.

I'm not sure about the availability of DV2800 series but the Asian Odyssey will be available at least for US market come Spring.

For more pictures of the Artist Edition, check it out on the very 1st page of this posting.

If u buy it frm proper shop with international warranty, shud be no problem. Be sure to ask about the specific countries coverage. Some1 is advising on buying global care pack.

hmm....ic ic...i am buying it online from the US site and getting my cousin to bring it down for me...i called hp malaysia, apparently no one was in, left a message and yet to hear from them...i even went to their site - US & Malaysia and got enquired about it, but still no answer sad.gif this is pretty shocking for a big company like HP who is the No.1 computer brand in the world...

Here is what I configured in the US site:

2.5GHz, 6MB cache T9300 processor - penryn
2GM ram
250GB hard disk
128MB nVidia card
Intel 4965 card with bluetooth
webcam, mic, fingerprint reader

This is the dv2700t Special edition model and now they are giving discount coupons, and guess what? the total comes up to only RM 3698 smile.gif A fantastic price if you ask me...

hmm....ic ic...i am buying it online from the US site and getting my cousin to bring it down for me...i called hp malaysia, apparently no one was in, left a message and yet to hear from them...i even went to their site - US & Malaysia and got enquired about it, but still no answer sad.gif this is pretty shocking for a big company like HP who is the No.1 computer brand in the world...

Here is what I configured in the US site:

2.5GHz, 6MB cache T9300 processor - penryn
2GM ram
250GB hard disk
128MB nVidia card
Intel 4965 card with bluetooth
webcam, mic, fingerprint reader

This is the dv2700t Special edition model and now they are giving discount coupons, and guess what? the total comes up to only RM 3698 smile.gif A fantastic price if you ask me...

Yeah, I must say, it's a steal. Ur getting T9 CPU. I wonder if the Nvidia is not the typical 8400M. Wait till CNY hols end, and ask for the Nation warranty coverage. I don't think u will get this specs with the price in Malaysia.

To partition disk, I only know how to divide 1 partition into 2: To do this, right click on mycomputer/computer, open down storage, click manage, find the partition u would like to shrink/divide. For other task, google and download magic partition.

U will need to make a recovery CDs 1st in order to clean install.

Go to Search Panel, find Recovery Disc Creation. U will need 2 blank DVDs. Follow the instruction. Bear in mind, the recovery disc creation can only be done once!

After finished burning the recovery discs. Insert disc 1, restart, check the BIOS to boot from CD-ROM (usu this is the defaut, so no need to go into BIOS).

Follow the instruction.

Other than this, u can simply press F11 during the boot up. It also act as recovery console but burn the recovery out 1st for safety.

My DV2614tx has only 64mb dedicated graphic. The new 2703 shud have 128mb. Make sure u check the max graphic. For instance, mine is around 304mb with 1 gb ram. Not sure about 2gb ram.

There something wrong with your adapter. Try to call HP. Maybe they can change the adapter.

There are a few VERY IMPORTANT items you should take into consideration when buying a dv2000.

1) Make sure you have the 1 year local warranty by buying it from local manufacturers.

2) Stress test your PC, specially the processor within the 1 year warranty.

This is because the dv2000 series has a high degree of probability of failure within the first year. I acquired 4 units for our office and have already sent 2 for motherboard repair. It seems that the overheating problem is not just an annoyance to your palms but to your wallet too. The 1st one was within warranty, the other was beyond warranty. Good thing we had an extended warranty from an insurance company. Motherboard related repairs would cost you around 1000 USD.

There is really no replacement model from other manufacturers for this beautiful, classy and capable mobile. That is why I am still getting another 2730 for myself. (Core 2 2.2, 2Gig Ram, HD-DVD, and HDMI). I will just have to live with the overheating problem by making sure I have it insurance-covered for 3 years.

well, from what i have read - did extensive research on this model as i am going to buy it. those with the models dv2000~dv2500 are very prone to having overheating issues and most of the time the motherboard and maybe the graphics card too would need replacing. since the dv2600 model till now, the dv2700, there have been no problems yet, only some ppl having problems installing xp on the dv2700..

am getting the special edition version... will pull the trigger next week for :
2.5GHz T9300 processor 6MB L2 cache
2GB RAM
250GB hard disk
128MB nvidia 8400 gs card
lightscribe dvd drive
wireless-n with bluetooth
fingerprint reader, mic, webcam
high capacity 6 cell batt

if i can wait till july, hopefully the montevina version will be out.

some dv2700 owners claim that it runs much cooler than the previous 2000 series, but a bit warm where the hard disk is...

If not mistaken i think you would need to slipstream some drivers to the XP installation disc in order for you to install your XP. Check with Mr.Google for slipstream (nLite i think) then google around for dual boot (vistapro something) boot up manual. There are a few forums quite comprehensive about the dual boots for HP notebooks.

Cheers.

Montevina is expected to be out in the mid of this year. It will be embedded with 45nm processing chip. The small size of the chip implies better efficiency, hence faster performance, less heat, longer battery life. Better wait if u don't reli need a laptop at this moment. I presume the next dv2000 generation will at least come with nvidia 8600 series.

The Cooler Master is damn heavy, I mean the price, think before to buy a cooler master or whatever branded cooler for my laptop, but all branded also made by aluminium so it's quite heavy.

Hey everyone, i'm a first timer here. Found out about the site after searching on the DV2000 heating issue. Used the compressed air advice and it helped quite a bit.
Anyways, i have a 2153tx 512 RAM, Windows XP, Geforce Go 7200.
My wireless light is always showing an amber light, meaning it's off. I've installed all the drivers but they say that the bluetooth device could not be found. I went on the HP customer service site and they told me to reconnect the bluetooth adapter (the one with 2 wires) but that didn't help.
I was wondering if someone could help me with the issue. Would be appreciated.

I'll get that checked out then.
I also have another issue, I haven't been able to run HP Battery Check yet. It just doesn't run. Was guided to run Dependancy Walker on it and found out that there MPR.dll wasn't able to execute. I have Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 installed. Still doesn't work, have tried removing and loading them all over again and hasn't worked.
Anyone have an idea?

Hi William,

You seems very familiar with installation of XP Professional on DV2700 series.

You mind share with us the proper way of doing this?
Do you have any installation guide?
Will there be any drivers problem, and need download from somewhere? Do share with me the link/website, if any.

Am looking for a dv2703 but was disappointed being told there is no XP system, and could have drivers incompatible problem.

Many thanks in advance! smile.gif

Added on March 23, 2008, 6:35 pmand it has good specs for that size...i posted some on this page : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=231737

2.23kg...its near the size of the xps 1330... - thats with the ccfl screen and the standard 6 cell...also not as thin as the xps, which is good for heat dispersion and the big vent is a plus

only 2 USB, 1 hdmi, 1 eSATA, RJ-45, RJ-11..most notebook this size only come with 2USBs...that is if you go with the discrete graphics option - nvidia...if you take the intel card, for this model you will get an additional usb...

The design seems much simpler compare to the dv2000. Maybe this time, HP is targeting the business oriented users with casual users with their dv series. It shud look lot nicer in real life considering the fact that it is almost as neat as VAIO SZ.

Do update on the launch in Malaysia later.

Hi, I just bought HP pavilion dv2660se on 14 April 2008.

And I noticed several problems:
1. The webcam cannot be detected. I installed the driver from hp website, yet it is stil not working.
2. The boot up takes long time. After i press power, the screen keeps black although the lights are on. I tried to wait, but after 10 minutes, it was still like that. I noticed that if I press all the keys on keyboard, it begins to start. Or It can also start if I hit the table (it's kindda weird).
3. And, after it boot up, the Vista welcome screen takes 30 seconds. After that it turns into black screen with movable mouse screen, takes 2 minutes.
(number 3 does not related to startup)

Do anyone have the solution or do you know why is te problems?

Is there something wrong with the preloaded windows or r u installing a XP?

In former case, try to create backup dvd (search 'recovery') and reformat ur laptop using the disc. For more convenience, try to boot the laptop and keep pressing F11 or F10 (I forget) till recovery manager appears. U will be guided from there.

For latter case, I'm not really sure how to do it as HP doesn't seem to support XP no more with the new DV2000 series but u can ask a guy called William. He's very active in mobile computing forum. Also try to checkout other HP forum.

Good Luck.

I'm suing 2711tx also, but i have to disable ACPI by pressing F7 during XP installation at the earliest stage.
Are you able to install the XP without disabling the ACPI?

Thanks.

hmm....ic ic...i am buying it online from the US site and getting my cousin to bring it down for me...i called hp malaysia, apparently no one was in, left a message and yet to hear from them...i even went to their site - US & Malaysia and got enquired about it, but still no answer  this is pretty shocking for a big company like HP who is the No.1 computer brand in the world...

Here is what I configured in the US site:

2.5GHz, 6MB cache T9300 processor - penryn
2GM ram
250GB hard disk
128MB nVidia card
Intel 4965 card with bluetooth
webcam, mic, fingerprint reader

This is the dv2700t Special edition model and now they are giving discount coupons, and guess what? the total comes up to only RM 3698  A fantastic price if you ask me...

i'm planning on buying the hp dv2700t special edition too, and rm3698 is a FANTASTIC price, may i know wat is the US site?? or is there any plc for me to purchase this laptop wif such a price in malaysia??

u need to downgrade ur bios to F.13, then u wont have such error ad, but bear in mind F.13 don have fan throttle, so ur fan will be at top sped even its not on full load means on battery = around 1 hour

I bought my HP laptop last year. The model is dv2616TX. It's more like a multimedia computer and for light gaming. My current OS is Windows Vista. I would like to downgrade the OS to Windows XP. Is that okay? And what's the solution and precaution steps should I take so I can successfully downgrade from Windows Vista to XP.

hey guys..great news. The dv3000 is out. Is super cool with back lighted HP logo in front and is 13 inch. The most amazing of all is the price...drumroll!!!!! it cost rm3499 from mtsc @ pavilion kl. HP still keep the basic feature which is the altec lansing speaker below the palmrest and the white led lighted touch multimedia sensitivity buttons. but the sad part is the palm rest is all chrome...too bling- bling for me.

Hi guys,

I'm going back to Malaysia after being at overseas for 2 years and I wonder where can I go to get the best deals for these HP pavillion 14" laptops in KL? I've seen some advertised at Lowyat Plaza but they seemed out of date.

The 2nd thing I would like to know is, is it possible to buy customized HP laptops from these outlets?

Please advise, thank you!

Low Yat quite slow in updating their products. I still see some old toshiba M200 tho now there are already M300. I think they wanna clear up the old stock.
U can customize via hp.com.my

Yea, it is frustrating to see them promoting old stocks only. Hmmm...any chance that I will find new models being displayed there?

I'm looking at the same missing pavillion laptops from their laptops section also. Their webpage is seriously deficient.

hey bro,

wassup...so getting this after throwing away ur 1330?

i just played with the dv3000...verdict: not too impressed.

why? well its a huge fingerprint magnet...the palmrest area...it looks pretty ugly...performance wasn't spectacular..and oh...u can only get the model with the t5750 processor...so u know...

the chrome plating looks ok...i am afraid that it might peel off...screen's nothing to shout about...the brightness is just average...colours are ok...

keyboard is quite nice to type on..like it better than the dv2700...it has a coating on top of it...the trackpad is rubbish imho...i find it hard to use it...

notebook is small and nice, light to carry around..the screen hinge is quite thin but it should be ok i hope...

here's a major disappoinment..the chrome plating on top of the modular bay does not fit nicely (flush) against the chrome plating of the body of the laptop...it sticks out..which is absolute garbage..i mean you are paying so much for the laptop and you get this? you could easily cut yourself or probably get it pulled out if you are not careful.

overall quality was ok only. was not expecting this from hp

btw, the unit you saw..was the chrome lining above the cd-drive jutting out, as in not flush with the chrome lining of the laptop?

yeah n20nine the cd rom slot tray doesnt stick nicely to the body of the laptop... there is a huge gap there though.. might accidentally pull the tray out though...sadly..

i am a proud new owner of dv2713tx!!! bought it at asia retail @ mid valley for rm 4399. freegifts: sonic gear speaker, petrol voucher rm40 and bag

Added on June 28, 2008, 10:27 ammy laptop is now a week older....
and so far so GOOD.
all i can say is it satisfies the needs of casual user like me quite well (watching muvis, listening songs, light gaming, surfing, doing some works, etc.)
the sound from its built-in speaker is superb....way better than the free sonic gear speaker i got. its mid and treble are very clear, and the bass is ok. no muddy sound can be heard. overall, the audio is loud and clear. i set the volume slightly lower than half but it's already loud enough and can be heard across the rooms thumbup.gif
the display....is good too. very bright and clear. it looks smooth. the display is exciting to watch is all i can say.hahaha. what more, since there is a built-in hd-dvd drive, the quality of the display must be good
overall....i love this laptop. and yeah, its outer look is so sexy and gorgeuos. hope my laptop gonna serve me good for the next few years... notworthy.gif

IF Dell then Inpiration 15XX or XPS 1310

Wait for PC Fair this early August (maybe end of this July). If the prices don't drop, u surely will get better offers like warranty extension or freebies.

8600GS for 3K? Thats too good to be true.

The T5 cpu is a turn off but with RM3k is already considered sufficient
tho, it warm up easily with the high end graphic chip.

Do upgrade the RAM to 4gb, u will get 3gb in return (for 32bit Vista), this will help with the heat as u will b
using more physical ram instead of virtual (from hdd)

I am using the radiance imprint one, so far it hasn't given me any problems. No lag from windows vista. I can play games fine. I even dropped it once, but no problems nonetheless.

My sis dv2314tx died last week.. with the same problem, 1 long beep follow by 2 short beep.. Mobo was fried.. from the information that i'm able to gather. it was mainly due to overheating from graphic card..

nvidia admitted the propblem.. as you guys can see from here, it is not an isolated case, it is happening to quite a lot of people., with the same problem.

you can try to read some of the complaint in HP forums( inside hp.com.my).. the reason for me to write this reply was because i'm fed up with HP, their indian-slang support sux and rude. HP know that their laptop have problem but there still in denial state. when i mention this problem to them and the forum link.. he say that it is just a forum and not a statement from HP.

so for future owner, think twice.

i own one as well, sent the notebook in for warranty claim more than 5 times already.. very disappointed with the notebook.. problems keep arising.. recently had another problem but this time my warranty is over.. the personnel said it may be the motherboard problem and if it is, would cost around RM1000 to replace.. haih..

Is it using 8400m gs?
If it is, only way to fix is replace motherboard, but the problem will occur again sooner or later.
This is nvidia fault.

The problem stem from HP poor design mostly... Just manage to repair one lappy, dv2x00... there is about a 1mm gap between the heat sink and nvidia's GC chip. HP used a "silicon pad like" thingy to bridge the gap. So for a year or more of cooking the nvidia chip it disassociate from the M/B.. All kinds of errors and symptoms associated with the GC will appear.

Reheating the M/B at around the solder melting temperature (around 200 C) may reconnect the disconnected connections. Manage to get one working again. With out access to a heat gun, I used the oven/baking method.

Used a thin aluminium shim to bridge the gap the heatsink and nvidia GC chip to ensure proper heat transfer.

Hi guyz,
i just heard about nvidia faulty gpu settlement (at least for US ,i think)
refer to here
http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/01/nvidia-...nged-but-times/
and here
http://www.nvidiasettlement.com/index.html

i own a defunct dv2713tx out of warranty (yes, problem with the nVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS).

Does anyone knows whether the settlement applicable for malaysia since US model no and Malaysia model no is not the same.

FYI,for Hp affected notebook, the notebook will be replace with a new one.

Can anyone help clarify this?

Thank you in advance.

im thinking of calling/email to Hp customer support later.
