yea, actually Dato Sri Teh was a major influence for me to choose PBBANK..... if u r working in a Chinese company, u'll notice that most of them choose PBBANK instead of the other banks <including my boss> tongue.gif
I'm sensing that our G wanted to take over the only 2 Chinese banks left for quite a long time already whistling.gif

For technical analysis... i have never used...as i do no think one can catch the market and predict market trend by looking at trendings...as those are mainly for some hints to tell what would be the short term fluatuation from daily, hourly, monthly, etc... biggrin.gif

Techical analysis only shows results after things have happened, I guess can't fully rely on it.

Has anyone bought PBB at it lowest 7.85?????

Let's make an assumption that PBB still able to sustain in profit and deliver its dividend 0.80

Buy at 7.85 at 2008, and at 2011, total dividend return = 2.40
and this translate that the cost is 6.25

And if PBB appreciate its price in 2011 at 10.00

Then you will get a handsome gain.....

So with current company fundamental, is this possible?

BTW, most of us here are saying that PBB has no successor, so what would be the future for this counter?

Totally irrelevant, as whether previos it was 3.00 or 30.00 or 300.00 means nothing for now and future.

Transmile was RM 15.00, now 0.6x
UEM holding was RM 20.00, after restructuing, don't know how much now.
AIG was USD 80, now USD1.63
Yahoo was more than USD 100 during 1999, now less than USD 20

Are they severely cheap as well?  icon_idea.gif

Cheap or not cheap is not because of price. Berkshire Hathaway at USD 100,000 can be considered cheap, but for xyz company at Rm0.05 also will be view bloody expensive.

Cheap definition should be according to company profitability and company valuation, not price.  smile.gif

Sadly a lot of people still don't understand that and yet they still dabble in stocks.

Price is what you pay, value is what you get.

Stocks aren't as obvious as either paying RM10k for a BMW or paying RM10K for a t-shirt, where the choice is so obvious which one is cheap and which is expensive.

normanTE,

What makes you think that Maybank is undervalued?? In order for someone to claim some counter is undervalued, you need to know what the value is. A bank that consistently make wrong decision could always do something to make the value even LOWER.

Public Bank sets up Public Islamic Bank

KUALA LUMPUR: Public Bank Bhd has set up Public Islamic Bank Bhd, its wholly-owned subsidiary, to undertake Islamic banking business with effect from Nov 1.

The Islamic banking business of Public Bank, which was conducted via the window concept, would be transferred to Public Islamic Bank.

Public Bank chairman Tan Sri Teh Hong Piow said on Monday that Public Islamic Bank would continue to share its parent bank’s infrastructure, IT platform and branch network including the use of Public Bank’s automated teller machines (ATMs).

“Thus, the Islamic banking customers of the Public Bank Group will enjoy uninterrupted service and continue to perform all their Islamic banking transactions at all 242 Public Bank branches and 26 hire purchase centres in Malaysia,” he said.

Teh said the existing savings passbooks, cheque books and ATM cards will remain valid and customers can continue to use them until further notice.

“Moving forward, the setting up of Public Islamic Bank reflects the group’s strong commitment to further enhance the group’s Islamic banking business in line with the objectives of Bank Negara Malaysia’s Financial Sector Masterplan,” he said.

Teh added Public Islamic Bank would leverage on the Public Bank Group’s proven management team, strong PB brand and large network of branches.

He added Islamic banking products and services will continue to be made available through multiple delivery channels, from over-the-counter services to online access such as telebanking and Internet banking.

Public Bank’s Islamic banking business posted an average annual rate of growth of 25% over the last five years, contributing significantly to Public Bank’s profitability.

As at Sept 30, Islamic banking assets stood at RM 14.6 billion or 7.7% of the group’s total assets.

Islamic financing stood at RM12.4bil or 10.5% of the group’s total loans and advances while customers’ deposits stood at RM11.9bil or 7.6% of the total customers’ deposits.

He also said Ismail Ibrahim was appointed chief executive officer of Public Islamic Bank. He was the general manager of Islamic banking of Public Bank prior to his appointment to head the Islamic banking subsidiary.

In term of book value yes... But for investor most important is how much return it can generate from the investment . I don mind the book value is 5 times or greater if my investment can provide 10% yield annually.

1) Whenever they give bonus shares.... will it change the par value of the shares? or they give out the existing shares they have?
2) Only when they issue new shares, the price + the par value of the shares will drop?
3) what's the highest & lowest par value of a share? RM1 & RM0.01?

My wild guess
1. Bonus shares will not reduce the PAR value...

2. If this is Share split e.g. 1 to 2.... , a share with original PAR value 1.00 will be now 0.50

3. Not really understand what you mean by max or low of PAR value...
