i find that most people cannot accept the idea of spaying/neutering simply because this is a rather new practice in our country. without bothering to understand why it is encouraged, they just open their eyes wide and go into shock when the words spay/neuter is mentioned. i'm not going to go into the pros and cons of it (actually, there are no cons, and lots of pros), i'm sure you can find lots of info on that on the internet.
