Greeting,

One of the 2nd-hand car salesman is recommending a Gen2 for me, thus I'm looking for some information from those that own or driven a Gen2 before.

1. I been hearing alot concerning the tonque dip for the campro engine. It is an issue big enough to ignore a 2nd-hand gen2 ? or would a MT-based Gen2 be sufficient to reduce the impact? I'm not looking for top speed or racing driving, but I do have a tendency to "push for power" once in a while, especially during the midnight where there is few are around blush.gif

2. Is a 1.3version of Gen2 underpowered? Or would it be better to just aim for 1.5/1.6 version?

Thank you

1.3 version of gen2 is a but underpowered...go for 1.6...

about the torque dip yeah it is a concern for most campro users...but most of us change the header to aftermarket n remove the cat con n it really improves the torque...

some other additional mod is like use a fuel pressure regulator, use aftermarket drop in filter with larger snorkel, use iridium plugs, adjustable cam pulley etc...

a 2nd hand gen2 will all those mods cost cheaper then buying a new one...

I'm now trying to get loan approval for a gen2- 1.6 auto . cry.gif

but I donno if that car has these add-on or not.. anyway a newbie like me can check by looking/observing or better send it to a workshop to get it checked ?

I'm curious as to what the dashboard button in gen2 does.

I know one of them is for the emegency light, but there is more than 1 button. \

1. When i turn off the enjine, there is a small tick-tick-tick sound coming from the back of the speedmeter. This sound last for a few second then disappear... It is normal? What this sound does ?

2. Also, beside the speedmeter, there is a magnet. What is the purpose of the magnet ? Just to hold paper, or got something more?

QUOTE(shiniraz @ Mar 12 2008, 10:02 AM)
Hello guys.
Just to share some info when i was traveled from..

Kota Damansara to Perlis.
Total Fuel pump at Kota Damansara = RM 62 (to get Full tank)
KM covered = 420 KM ( topup another RM10@Petronas Lencong Barat, Alor Setar to get to Perlis)
Max speed = 160 km/h
Average speed = 140km/h

Perlis to Kota Damansara
Total Fuel = 1 1/2 tanks (forget to set the total KM and total fuel)
Max speed = 180 km/h ("berat kaki" on the pedal at most of the time)
Average speed = 150km/h

So i'm quit OK with my fuel consumption - full tank manage to get at least 420km even i was speeding at most of the time.  nod.gif  nod.gif
*
I dare you.... Full tank , go drive around KLCC, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Tun Perak, Cheras (?) every Monday to Friday from 4:45pm to 6:45pm and see how far a full tank can go tongue.gif
blush.gif blush.gif blush.gif

I only hate that auto-geardown when we go down hill... even when can go downhill at 90km, also autogear down... waste my fuel only... vmad.gif vmad.gif vmad.gif

Anyone here have a e-version of the handbook manual?

I'm not able to tune the radio freq for the stock 2-dim radio (bau-something model) ... The closest I've got is 105.7 (light-and-easy) ... and i'm not able to get hitz, mix or any of the other channels..

I agree that certain modding should not void the warranty on the engine

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

But at the least, I also believe that the owner of the affected Gen2 should "list" the modification that they've added to their Gen2 tongue.gif .

Some mods could've been the root cause, like a poorly tuned adj. cam or perhaps the extractor installed by some technician's apparentice? laugh.gif

Or worst case scenario ... Proton themselves doesnt know of this problem ... shocking.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif

None of the mods involved internal modifications, all of which are just add-ons, if the engine can't even handle that it's a real piece of sh1t. EVen if their cars have been to the track and used for spirited driving, a crankshaft doesn't crack at where it did and all at the same bloody place. At most the power of the engines would be 110hp which is according to proton spec is standard.
*
hmm.gif

Does this means that the engine is being built using below-par material in an effort to cut-down cost? sweat.gif

or

Proton's failed QC as usual? tongue.gif

Either way, there's no way to verify our engine externally; just have to take a wait-and-pray approach cry.gif cry.gif

Eduction of the day:

When all else fail, it's god's will that we change from Cam(Confirmed-Tak)Pro to CamPro CPS system tongue.gif

Or (for budget-concious user like myself)

When all else fail, it's god's will that we change from Cam(Confirmed-Tak)Pro to CamPro IAFM system (like it's younger Persona sibling) blush.gif

so, an ACP (worst case scenario: poorly tuned ACP) can snap the timing belt ? unsure.gif

and the crank snap should not be the result of introducing an ACP ? unsure.gif

Wondering something .... Anyone here

installed brake central locking system for Gen2 around here? (where you can lock the door by pressing the break)
And the auto door unlock button ?

Lastly, anyone also installed the auto boot open? Not conveniences to open driver door just to open the boot.

Wondering of products and cost of installation..

Super tight budget here laugh.gif

thanks

Gen2 already got auto door look when you step on the brake provided that your engine is running. And it will auto unlock once you switch off the engine. Your Gen2 don't have? hmm.gif

Auto boot open i'm not sure. Maybe can ask SC if can install into Gen2 since Persona HL using it..haha.. tongue.gif

My "wife" very hungry and lack a few features... blush.gif

some more so fat, tongue.gif hard to see back mirror laugh.gif

back to topic..

Not sure if dont have or rosak already, but at the moment, I have to manually lock the door.
but I can use the alarm to lock the door (the key-alarm), just that the door doesnt auto lock when car is running.

Boot-wise, dont have also ok... but dont think can use persona one ... want to change the gearbox to persona version (due to downshift) also cannot... cry.gif

So, wondering if there is other "alternative" rolleyes.gif

Persona gearbox same as Gen2, just that it's using a better TCU, no need change 1 la because it will still downshift...haha... laugh.gif
I need to change to better TCU .... Everyday I drive uphill and downhill to office.. From Jalan Maroof to Sprint Highway, the downshift force my "wife" to eat so much petrol. cry.gif .. RPM reach 5k , km/h reach 70km/h only yawn.gif .. but when reach bottom of hill, my car can fly tongue.gif

Anyone here master their Gen2's TCU ? biggrin.gif... My car sometime downshift and sometime doesnt, (even on the same highway going downhill) ... Cant even pinpoint the conditions for the downshift.. is it rpm related, or km/h related?

If dont change, I'm going to die laugh.gif ... First pump full tank for my 2nd hand gen = 321km for $65 ... 9.7l/100km ($0.20cent per km cry.gif cry.gif)

QUOTE(S4PHTT @ Mar 27 2008, 04:32 PM)
Means everytime you guys want to lock the door, need to manually press down the lock on the door? hmm.gif

Mine confirm got auto lock since i always press the brake to lock all the doors after i switch on the engine... nod.gif
*
Maybe he "modded" the car? whistling.gif ... Can help check past receipt? Maybe can find model number and pricing laugh.gif drool.gif

Havent tune the car (don't think that prev owner did any tuning) ... Now waiting for salary to go and do tuning cry.gif... People has been quoting me 200 for meca-tune, using experiences instead of computer sweat.gif ... any cheaper recommendations?

P/S: using auto tranmission yawn.gif

QUOTE(rcracer @ Mar 28 2008, 10:41 AM)
If the g/box downshift and you don't step on the gas pedal, the engine is not using anymore fuel than idling, in fact the ECU turns off the injectors. It is more obvious in a manual car because when you step on the clutch you can actually see the rpm will drop below idling and the ECU will restart the engine by firing the injectors. So engine braking doesn't use fuel at all actually.
*
But when it downshift, the RPM shoot to 3k++ , doesnt eat petrol ?blink.gif ...

QUOTE(S4PHTT @ Mar 28 2008, 10:44 AM)
Dovienya,

I think although Persona comes with a better TCU, it will still downshift like Gen2...The better TCU is primarily used to counter the Campro's torque dip and provide a better drivability...So, i think not necessary to change the Persona TCU but i could be wrong though as i've never driven a Persona...haha... laugh.gif

As for the downshift, i think it depends on your speed and the pressure applied on your accelarator...When the car detects even a slightest slope, the gearbox will downshift a gear...so, when it downshifts on a slope, just step harder to increase your speed (if it's safe to go faster) and it will upshift.

Normally if you travel more than 90/100 km/h on the top gear and applying a constant pressure on the accelerator while on the slope, it will not downshift unless you release and if the car slows down. Well, mine normally shoots up 3k++ rpm but not 5k++ rpm, haha... nod.gif

Well, this is what i experience with my car and my FC is around 0.19-0.20 cents/km and i seldom drive hard... sweat.gif

Shazmn,

Nope, mine is just the normal M-line model. I think it has something to do with my Anti Theft System installed by my SA.  hmm.gif
*
Just by downshift-ing, my RPM jump to 3k++, sometime until 4k .. if i press petrol, it doesnt upshift cry.gif only make my RPM jumps to 5k++. Like this, my car should eat more fuel... But cool2.gif when reach bottom and it upshift, see alot of powah drool.gif .. but have to slow down cause cutting into highway sweat.gif

Thanks for the updates rclxm9.gif

Idling definitely consumes petrol regardless of whether u press the pedal or not... laugh.gif

I think when going down a slope without pressing the pedal won't use any fuel gua like what bro rcracer explained in earlier posts... hmm.gif

But if going downhill and didnt press pedal, car will slow down wor (very fast slow down) ... People from behind will kiss my wife wor tongue.gif
especially early morning when people havent fully waken up yet laugh.gif
