QUOTE(lemonadegirl @ Apr 14 2008, 01:06 AM)
Thanks nos n jayniel for the quick replies. Im glad there's ntg wrong wit my hamster biggrin.gif . im a noob at keepin hamsters. three weeks ago, i bought Chubby(or fei fei, she really very fat) and a new basic cage tht comes wit everythin but, sadly, now i need to get her a new plastic tank or somethin wit no metal bars. Argh. I wonder why ppl still sell cages when hamsters have a bad addictive habit of biting the dumb bars. I did give my hamster chew wood to wear off her teeth, bt noo, she wants the metal bars instead. Was just wonderin, is there a way to stop (or train)  a hamster from bitin the cage besides placin her in a tank wit no bars and givin her chew toys?? I noticed my hamster is eatin up all the metal bar paint..even her mouth seem to be like the paint color. im worried she might get cancer or somethin...will she?
*
The only way to stop is to change the cage to a tank. People sell cages coz it gives good ventilation and some are not bothered with the biting.

The bar chewing is a bad habit. But the worst part is a hamster can get metal poisoning if the chewed parts are rusty. Petshops of course won't advice you, and certainly not many caresheets advice this too....

When metal comes in contact with saliva, it becomes metalic and salty, which causes the hamster to chew more coz of the taste. No matter how much wooden toys, or mineral stones or whatever chew toys, it will always chew back the cage bars.

If your hamster becomes skinnier, it would mean she got some teeth problem. Check the teeth to make sure not overgrown.

WW are one of the vocal dwarfs. They will shriek when scared or uncomfortable.

Anyway, I was reading the thread in Garage Sales.... sigh.... sad case. With such a thread, I don't think anyone would give their hamster for adoption. I wonder what wrong food..... and I certainly never heard of that RM50 hamster food. Has anyone seen it before?

@crazymouse
out of topic- ur ceramic bowl no news liao? so how so how?
*
Bowls ready, I PM you details lah. Sorry yah, I forgot tongue.gif

QUOTE(sangels @ Apr 14 2008, 10:25 PM)
LOL.... I read the thread also. I never seen that expensive brand of hamster food before. Only seen one in Pets Safari which cost RM30+, ended up we didn't buy cos it don't look better than prestige. Maybe one day we'll but and give it a try unsure.gif
*
From my personal experience, only Prestige is worth your money. Other brands either got unnatural preservatives or is just cheap stuff with an expensive price.

Prestige comes out with 400g packet. If we really calculate, the price will be much more expensive. So pandai do business. That day, wanna stock in prestige. 800g out of stock left 400g. Pening kepala.
*
Go Pet Shack to buy loh.... I think they have stock now coz I always go there buy hahahah.

400g is for mini hamster rite? I never buy that.

Anyway, I'm loaded with Prestige stock. I make sure I got 8 bags in my cupboard haahah

QUOTE(tina_yess @ Apr 14 2008, 10:48 PM)
plz help..
i juz bought 1 female robo for 3days, i feed her prestige+habitrail but she only wanna eat the corn, (not even the kuaci), should i change the food?
thx
*
Don't change.... what you should do is pick out all the corn. I know troublesome but this is the way to make your hamster forget about the corn.

There are no good brands of vitamin water.... Delikate, SingSong... all is just coloured water very little vitamins that actually lose their potency if the hamster doesn't drink it straight away. LM farms is good but it is very hard to find and only PetsWonderland has. Another brand is by Aristopets and it is also very very hard to get.

If you feed Prestige and feed small amounts of fruit and veggie, then there is no need for vitamin water.

i've never used Harry Hamster before.. r the contents similar to tat in Prestige? is it cheaper than Prestige?
*
Harry Hamster has more pellets, less fruit. I mix HH and Prestige, which is ideal. The price is about the same. Weight has change from 1kg to 850g now.

QUOTE(d100200 @ Apr 15 2008, 05:40 PM)
I went to the Pet whatever in Taman Megah.....no prestige there...
then I went to Pet whatever in Ikano, only have 1 x 400g Prestige Mini Hamster left.
I did saw there are few packs Prestige Chinchala and another for one for small animal as well, can I use those for my RC ?
*
It's Pet Family and they only sell Sluis, Kaytee, Hagen, Habitrail and Delikate.... Delikate is their house brand. Prestige can only be found at Pet Safari, Pet Shack and Petsmore. Only certain small petshops that carry high end products would have Prestige.

QUOTE(mlinda @ Apr 15 2008, 08:07 PM)
At Buddy Pet Wagon sell Harry Hamster RM20 for 1kg.. I think at petshop price also around that.
*
No more 1kg. The website outdated.

hi guys, i have 2 tanks, 1 is crittertrail mini on the left and a delikate at the right. i want to upgrade these fellas home to 2 storeys. wondering, do they sell different tiers separately?
*
You can only buy new cages. That's why it is a waste of money to buy cages coz sometimes you would want your hamster to have bigger space. You can only add on connections and another cage, you cannot add the tiers. Critter Trail Mini is suited for short term living and also as a carrier coz of the small space.

QUOTE(sangels @ Apr 15 2008, 09:10 PM)
Of cos it's not very much cheaper than RM40 but with service, I bet you can't get it anyway, it's not easy at all to make a nice whole on that kind of plastic tank. But save few ringgit here and there, and the best service do count in. I personally support PS.  thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif
*
Remember.... Pet Safari also PS hahahah....

Thanks everyone for the reply.

Those Pet whatever names really confusing.  doh.gif  doh.gif

Btw, Pet Shack is the one behind Mentari College, rite?
If I coming frm Subang Jaya, I turn left before the traffic light below the LDP bridge. Pet Shack should be the one on the right side ?
Anyone know they still have Prestige for sale ?

Where is Petsmore ?
*
Petsmore got a few branches but I am only familiar with the Petaling Street one.

You know the McD opposite Sunway Pyramid? Pet Shack is just behind it. Near Yuen Steamboat.

I just came from Pet Shack, they got Prestige there.

QUOTE(jayniel @ Apr 15 2008, 09:27 PM)
swt.. all playing with acronyms now..
*
I always call Pet Safari as PS hahaha....

QUOTE(IcedNyior @ Apr 15 2008, 09:28 PM)
d100200,

i think its somewhere around there, somewhere in the middle of all those shoplots.

A glass tank is cheaper but dont forget as you hv to clean it, it might be heavy to bring around.

I hv a 2ft tank, bought from PetShack also, they will drill a hole for you and attach your bottle to the suction cup to stick outside

I would agree that Jalan Pasar stuff is cheap because I bought my old cage (one made with metal bars & plastic) there and it was wayy cheaper than all the big big petshops. didn't check out the price for the plastic tanks tho
*
They also got plastic tanks... but which shop would help us drill a hole and provide a suction cup for bottle rite? Heheheh...

I wonder what time Pet Shack close shop?

I use LDP-Kesas everyday but usually around 7pm which is very jam so I want to go there a bit later like around 8.30pm.
*
Closes around 830pm to 9pm. If you need a map, go to the 1st page of the sugar glider thread, got a map there. Contact number too.

my mui mui died last sunday...
cried for 2 days...
i dunno is it bcoz of wet tail...
she gt it on tuesday and recovered on thursday...
then sunday suddenly~~
i learnt online that wet tail is fatal...
unless you send the hamster to the vet and treat...
is it true?
*
Wet tail is very fatal. It is like flu and fever for us, without medication, we can die if fever is very high. So if you do not rush to the vet for antibiotics, hamsters will most likely die.

QUOTE(lovelyhelp @ Apr 16 2008, 07:21 PM)
I have heard of wet tail this is the sign of them before dying. May I know how only they will get wet tail or how it is look like?

recently my hamster is not so active. today my hamster hide all the food in one corner and he took the glass to cover it.. what does it mean?
*
It is not a sign before dying..... hamsters with wet tail die because of late treatment. It is an infection, like virus that comes about when the hamster's health and immune system is weak. Also it is contagious... it is like flu or fever.

is corn cob bedding good? wanna try it out cos it looks tidy to me, n not dusty.. but i c some reviews saying that it will turn moldy.. wat u guys say?
*
Yes, when corn cob becomes wet with pee or water, it turns moldy and the mold is bad for both humans and hamsters.... mold travels in the air and can get into our lungs..... so if you use corncob, you must always make sure you check the bedding properly. Scoop away wet corncobs.

Guys, guys...hear diz...
yesterday i was at Pet Safari, when i past by the hamster section,
Then i saw diz 2 kindda hamster, gerbil if i'am not mistaken... shocking.gif  shocking.gif
1 pair, both female...i did ma goggling, but want some opinion from those which do keep gerbil.. icon_question.gif
So here r some question i would like 2 ask u guys out there...

1)The price is RM 300 for a pair, is it reasonable?
2)Does keeping a gerbil the same as keeping a hamster?
3)Do share some experience...

thanks guys...
*
It is a fat tailed gerbil. Go find the thread. It is not easy to keep and you cannot keep in a pair. They are solitary like Syrians. The petshop there is just being sales minded to sell as a pair. They never do research.
