» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « QUOTE(etsuko @ May 30 2009, 03:44 PM) After viewing, reading, observing and findings, I've noticed we've a number of want to be (not wannabe) Wordpress theme designers in Malaysia. But I'd like to have a serious discussion about wordpress theme development. Goldy, make this a new topic if you think it should be later. My discussion is about building commercial Wordpress themes. Which means it's either customized per client OR made-to-sell. 1. Do you create custom Wordpress themes from scratch (design, XHTML, etc)? OR, modify an existing theme?
2. Currently, do you sell the themes you have created?
3. Are the themes you are selling, custom or modified?
4. Personally, what is your opinion about designers who sell modified themes who were works of someone else?
5. What do you believe is the best method(s) to address the issue of designers who are selling modified themes or non-original works? As mentioned, this is a serious discussion about a soon to be problem. And it's best to find a prevention, if ultimately a cure can't be found. 1. I create from scratch. 2. Yeah, I sell some and I collaborate for free release on some. 3. I do it custom, based on what I have on my mind. 4. If they do it for clients, then it is alright but selling it as a premium theme, that sucks 5. I believe you have to contact him personally, or use the power of Twitter and submit it to warez site This post has been edited by destfull: Jun 6 2009, 08:00 PM

Of course you can do self hosted wordpress.
All you need is some time and money,
1. Find hosting that offers shared hosting services. Buy it. 2. Upload your own wordpress scripts 3. Manage it like how you did on Blogger

Point your domain to the new host and add it in the Cpanel. Then install the latest Wordpress. (Usually they'll provide you with either Fantastico or Site Software so you don't need to waste your time downloading/uploading/editing Wordpress files) Then once you are in Wordpress, go to the "Import" page, key in your WordPress.com details and all your posts and comments would be imported to your new Wordpress. You are now free to install new themes and plugins. Enjoy!

I am also in consideration of migrating to wordpress. I need to think carefully whether I should really migrate or is it necessary If you would looking at which hosting, you might read what Wordpress recommended list. http://wordpress.org/hosting/As for me, I already has Webhostingpad.com that came in Fantastico built-in.

yes everything will be the same. The difference is that everything is managed by you. If something happens, no one can help you, but you yourself and the forum. In fact, you get to have more customization which is more of a pro than a con.

It depends on how well you do your transfer, if you know the correct steps, then it is possible to do it with 0 downtime.
1. Domain takes a maximum of 48 hours to update it's nameserver. 2. Did you purchase the domain name via wordpress? Usually, if you bought it yourself and there are no contract, then you are definitely free to transfer to another registrar.

Hi For wordpress go to your dashboard> the tools> Export feature and you can download the XML file, it is rather straightforward and for importing it is also the same , choose import from wordpress and upload the XML file you downloaded and it will now contain all the posts and comments. -Brandon
