Hi to all ladies and gentlemen...

I've just signed up a WP blog, thought of making it a photo blog.

My intention is to create a post with a cover picture, then when you click on the image, you'll be linked to a picture gallery.

BUT I have no idea how to create a gallery.

Sorry to say that but I'm seriously a noob here...  rclxub.gif

Hence I nid you guys to enlighten me.

Thanks!

for your question for install, you can use wordpress control panel auto install. click Plugins Add New. You see

It depends on the theme you're using. they usually define what font type to use in which area. You can edit it in the Stylesheet CSS file

For the Word to wordpress problem, Wordpress Visual Editor has a "Paste from Word" function. Press the last button "Show/Hide Kitchen Sink (Alt+Shift+Z)"
and then you will see the button with a Word icon

It doesnt work for copying tables tho

You can set different pages/categories to have different themes.

An example would be http://voize.my & http://voize.my/minimal which is a page with a different theme.

To make your category with different theme, you have to make a new category-2.php file. The number is the ID of the category

Sos : Category Templates

This theme - Red Carpet by DeluxeThemes - as a different template for the Video and the photos category

in single.php, they put this
QUOTE
<?php get_custom_post(); ?>

Then in functions.php they define this function
QUOTE
/********************************************************************
loading a custom single post template
********************************************************************/
function get_custom_post() {

global $post, $carpet;
$get_post_cat = wp_get_post_categories($post->ID);
foreach($get_post_cat as $catid ) {
$cat = get_category($catid);
$the_cat = get_category_parents($cat->cat_ID, FALSE, ' ', FALSE);
}

$video = get_cat_name($carpet['videos_id']);
$gallery = get_cat_name($carpet['photos_id']);

$search_a = '/^'. $video .'/';
$search_b = '/^'. $gallery .'/';

if (preg_match($search_a, $the_cat)) {
  include TEMPLATEPATH. '/single_videos.php';
} elseif (preg_match($search_b, $the_cat)) {
  include TEMPLATEPATH. '/single_photos.php';
} else {
  include TEMPLATEPATH. '/single_news.php';
}

}

then they have the single_videos.php and single_photos.php with a custom template.

RedCarpet was available as a free download before but not any more now sad.gif

ok thanks again.

so i came out with this idea, make a custom menu or navigation for each category. then point the category to any post within the category..so whenever i click the category it will go straight to the post instead of category page first.. just some method to bypass the category page

anyway i found this 2 plugin might do the trick but cant figure how to use it sweat.gif

So you want people to click on the category name and get brought to a random post within that category?

I'm using this code to call 3 posts from the category (id = 23).
CODE

<?php $myPosts .= "0"; add_filter('posts_where', 'post_strip'); ?>
<?php $showpost = new WP_query(); $showpost->query('showposts=3&cat=23'); ?>
<?php if ($showpost->have_posts()) : ?>
<?php while ($showpost->have_posts()) : $showpost->the_post(); $myPosts .= $post->ID . ","; ?>

<a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>" title="<?php the_title(); ?>" target="_blank"> <?php the_title(); ?></a>

<?php endwhile; ?>
<?php endif; ?>

<?php remove_filter('posts_where', 'post_strip'); ?>

im not sure if you can tweak it to show just the random post. Mayb u can try with this (change category ID) in line 2
CODE

<?php $myPosts .= "0"; add_filter('posts_where', 'post_strip'); ?>
<?php $showpost = new WP_query(); $showpost->query('showposts=1&cat=23'); ?>
<?php if ($showpost->have_posts()) : ?>
<?php while ($showpost->have_posts()) : $showpost->the_post(); $myPosts .= $post->ID . ","; ?>

<a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>" title="<?php the_title(); ?>" target="_blank">NAME OF CATEGORY</a>

<?php endwhile; ?>

<?php endif; ?>

<?php remove_filter('posts_where', 'post_strip'); ?>

not so sure if it'll work tho

1. One is hosted on Wordpress server (wordpress.com) like Blogger and the other is self-hosted (download and install it on your own server)

2. Normally, you download the theme in a ZIP. Unzip it and it should be in a folder, "theme-folder". Upload this folder into your /your-domain/wp-content/themes/. Then, login and go to Appearance (WP 2.7.1) and look for the theme. Click it and in the pop-up top right you'll see "Activate theme".

*Note: Wordpress.com doesn't support custom themes which you download and plan to upload later.

3. Yup, as explained above.

4. Yup again, explained above.

5. If you're on Wordpress 2.7.1, it's in the Appearance menu on the sidebar.

6. Free web hosting sucks, and if you still insist on using it, good luck looking for one.
