I normally use Office to do project on my Windows Vista. Now i'm changing to mac and dunno which one to choose. I know that Microsoft Office file can be read from iWork but iWork file cannot sad.gif

and about the price iWork 08' is cheaper, right?

both only come for 1 license ka?

i only need Powerpoint (Keynote), Excel(Numbers), and Word(Pages).

so which one is worth the price? think to buy one of them end of this month.

TQ for helping notworthy.gif

no. It only import. And the formating will be not the same. Mess up wink.gif

If you serious with Office stuff, I suggest you have to use Office 08. Especially numbers, it is still not in advance level.

If you could change all of your offices (I mean real offices) softwares to NeoOffice or OpenOffice, then it will be great if you want to save cost.

If it is not, get Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac.

if for presentation, go for keynote (iwork 08)
word, go for openoffice

so, u can save money for not buying macoffice2008

but, if you have more budget, better get both...

but so far, i love keynote verymuch..
it helps me getting A s in couple of subjects...

Better get iWork 08, for other applications you can always use Neo Office which is fully compatible with MS Office.

When i tried the office. It's sluggish, slow, unintuitive. plus it's making my mac seriously very unpleasant to be used. Of course, some feature in office is nice while you dont get it with iwork.

I supposed the workflow and how efficient you can work is everyone's priority. iwork files can be made compatible to office and vise versa.

It's like taking itune in windows. same misery, different thing.

@shoguniphicus,
I been informed that's because Mac Office 2004 wasn't built for the Intel chipped Macs - it was meant for the predecessors. Am awaiting Mac Office 2008 as that should speed things up.

Anyone who uses office seriously, and by that I mean requiring pin point formatting accuracy and other stuff from older documents / colleagues should stick to M$ Office. If you're in college / lite user, then give neo office a go. I love neo office, iwork is pretty but redundant.

office.
just cause its compatible with other windows laptop.
since my colleagues are on windows, its just logical that i use something that everyone can read/use as well.
what would keynote be useful for (apart from the nice layout) if everytime u have to transfer it to a different comp and it messes up with the margins and stuff?

im on office 08.
but maybe one day i'll get keynote just for the sake of personal fulfillment.

Yes, i know that too. Till i have gotten my hands on the 2008 version. iWork is pretty much ahead. May be i will change my mind then after i try that out. ;p

Added on January 19, 2008, 10:27 amYea, i agree on the part that keynote have the fancy stuff, and when exporting, a few problems will arise when opening it in ppt. That doesnt really annoy me, because a few tweaks will work for me. And those fancy stuff is always an eye opener when you are presenting in a crowd of pc.

Prefer office all the time. More convenient.

The student and teacher edition is RM619 ( For 3 users summore biggrin.gif )
If u nid microsoft exchange server support, go for the standard pack (single user)

Just got me hands on Office 2008 - loading time is much much much faster compared to Office 2004 - GUI's improved and it's looking more Mac now.

Will just have to work with it for a while more before I can give more comments.

I somehow think Office 2004 would be more suitable for ur use, instead of or Office 2008. Speaking of which, how do u revert to Office 2004? Did u delete the previous files or did u just leave it on ur system during the installation of Office 2008?

during the office 08 installation, i had removed 04. now hav2 do the installation all over again.. cant thn the lag when using excel and word.

@balok,
i don't really know how to use keynote... first time experience give me like, wat's the diff with powerpoint? haha, i m an idiot in doing presentation.

people may say open office or iwork 08 work better, but i still prefer using microsoft 04, it's hard for my fren during compilation of our assignment, the margin will run, the effect wont shown... headache...

Oh... It's a good thing I haven't deleted the Office 2004 of mine, don't have the installation disk on me *grins* Had better keep a copy now smile.gif - shaites.. I hope I can find the Product Key though *oopS*

Keynote is not difficult to use but it will take some getting used to. Once you're familiar with it, it's like a breeze. And it sure looks better than powerpoint. At least, not so many people use it, so ur presentation would look a little more unique than the rest smile.gif

ibook? It's better you use office 2004 instead. Office 2008 got many "cool cool" animations and transparency as well. Apart of that, Office 2008 is optimum for Intel although it also support PPC as well. I doubt it wil be smooth in G4 machines.

Btw, it should automatically delete the previous installation files once you install Office 2008. I'm not too sure la cos I don't have office 2004, and never try too due to non-UB issue. Once I install the "retail" version of office 2008, it auto delete the office 2008 beta which I have installed brows.gif

I believe I had a choice of whether I wanted to remove Office 2004 or not; first time I didn't remove it and just went on to upgrade it but my files were still being opened by Office 2004, so I think I did a manual removal [perhaps that's Y it ended up in my trash] or well, i don't remember! *gulps*

it can be saved as ppt but it is "export". But some of the transition will not have and formatting will be the same in ppt version, that's the down side. If you are serious in offce work, i suggest you get office 2008 instead of iWork, especially you are using excel. iWork numbers is not mature yet. That's my opinion. Like pages in iWork, when you import/export microsoft word files, usually the formatting will be KO. laugh.gif

yes, you can save a Pages document in .doc format, and it will open in MS Word for Windows.

IIRC don't expect to get the full functions of editing and modifying that's available in MS Word 2008 for Mac and MS Word 2007 for Windows.

Er.. If u just want users to view the file, save it pdf format, ur formatting will still be there; only fall back is the 'no edit allowed' problem! *grins*
