Each forums/reviews has its own preference rclxub.gif . Thus, I'd like to hear from you all! flex.gif

Thanks alot. notworthy.gif

@daenvgiell, it depends on your likes. For me, I choose vmware over parallels. vmware can enable 2 cores of your processor, whereas parallels only use a single core. But vmware got downside as well, it don't have much cool features compare to parallels.

I suggest you go have a try on both of the softwares first.

I've personally bought both and have stuck with VMware for several reasons.

- VMware tech support is more responsive
- VMware has the VMTN forums to ask/browse
- VMware Fusion has dual-core and 64-bit support
- VMware allows almost seamless transfer between their Mac OS, Windows and Linux products (VMware workstation/server/player) so it's easier for me to move back and forth from development on my Mac to testing/production on the Linux boxes.

Sounds good.

but it seems to me that it's not that popular in Malaysia. I called to several shops asking for it, but they have only Parallels.

Where did you purchase the fusion and how much?

finally someone did ask. tongue.gif

I try couple of games. Running good so far.

- Pro Street (once enable smoke effect, direct kena BSOD sweat.gif doh.gif )
- Dawn of War (Running wild with it. A lit bit Lag during the fighting effects)
- WC3 (no need to tell la, even Pentium3 machine can run smoothly whistling.gif Both mac and win running wildly)
- Live for Speed (running wild as well thumbup.gif )

All the above, i set in native resolution (1280x800). Pro street got abit lag if set higher but it can't enable smoke effect and Antialiasing. Later I might want to test oblivion out. So far so good, I happy with x3100. It performs quite well than I expected.

Btw, Crysis won't work sad.gif Hope the final x3100 driver release soon. Currently it is only beta.

just another word for macbook gaming, don even try to run war-based shooting like cod2.. i run 640x480 also fps only <5

but for rpg, strategy, fps not based on war (like halo, cs runs fine)

why most ppl think mac version and using VM to play? doh.gif sweat.gif Btw, there are no mac version for most recent games. That's the truth. That's why we still need "TINGKAP" biggrin.gif VM CANNOT PLAY GAME LA, just can play oldschool games. AIDUH... Running in windows alone already quite lag lo and you still thinking of running in VM? doh.gif

Btw, your macbook is x3100 or GMA950? If GMA950, you don't bother about playing games. Pro Street can't run in GMA950 btw wink.gif

oh.. those games i didn't test it and also not my liking. I think GTA:SA no problem right? and Halo surely no problem. For Halo, it is better to use mac version wink.gif Got problem also Halo2. I play mostly racing game, and Pro Street good for me in 1280x800 resolution. I just have to disable the world effects and stuff. The car model can go high without lag, i think roughly 20-25fps. If lower down resolution, can get better fps

Buy it online. I bet you with the current exchange rates the online store is cheaper than most retail stores. I paid US$40 each during promos.

Actually why not download your own evaluation copy and try it out on your own. Don't just believe LYN or review comments especially when the eval/demo is available.

I wouldn't know about WMWare, but VMWare I'm sure it's one license per purchase. Can you install your Windows license on multiple PCs? Sure you can. Who's going to come after you? Not our police.

no problem 1. The updates is usually download the whole darn thing, .dmg. So you need to reinstall or upgrade it. Another thing is if u using P version, just get the serial and you ready to go. Again, it is not right la for P version. cool.gif

din vote since havent tried parallels yet.. and lazy to try parallels.. i think both have their own pros and cons.. y not you google the reviews out there? they do have in-depth analysis and comparison on both.

i dont think its a problem if getting a "P" version.. just get it again when there's a new update.. but i dont recommend ppl who own a company using "P" version, u'd get into some serious trouble.

Btw, please don't think about MBP component on 12". It will never happen due to over-heating and power consumption. And if u want it to be slimmer somemore, dedicated graphic card cannot go in. biggrin.gif In other words, it will be ultra-low end of MB. I suggest you get MBP if you are into graphic work environment.

Yea.. Parallels features like read/write your vhdd without booting in your virtualization software and it allows to open either mac application or windows application.

Ah, I see. the P - Pirated version...but I had a few bad experience with pirated softwares and it's such a turn off, kind of worry.

So with fusion or parallels, one software for only one Mac right?

yes, but it depends again... for me, i use leopard 99% n window 1% (transfer files to friends' ext HDD (NTFS format))...so i dont need parallel features that much...on top of that, vm startup is faster than parallel...

i try as much as i can to avoid windows..huhu...(bill gates ciplak all the GUI from mac back then)

hey, im using parallels now.. i think parallels really suits my needs.. for example i only use XP for playing games.. so whenever i've downloaded games from the internet with mac os transmission, i'll need to transfer the setup files to XP hard drive.. cause parallels has this thing called Explorer that allows you to write to XP HD without actually booting XP

parallels also has this thing called SmartSelect thingy that allows you to open xp files with mac applications and vice versa.. i need this since the wmplayer for mac is not fully supported to open certain wmv videos.. so i need to use wmp for win to open certain videos located in my mac HD

so my recommendation is this, if you rarely use you XP for doing documents, etc (stuff only windows can do), u should use parallels.. if u do though, consider fusion since fusion runs faster(2x faster than parallels since it can support multi processors) but it cannot do the things i've mentioned above though.

also, i do know that parallels cant support bluetooth, win aero glass, 3d not so good.. but hey, i've already got the best OS in the world, y would i need to run Win to do stuffs like bluetooth, webcam for me? the only thing really worth to get win for me is because i get to play games that suc in mac

i hope this gives you an idea on which one to use.

You can always buy direct from vmware.com. Search for coupon codes on Google and you can get $10 off. "Diggnation" coupon code should still work. Try it at checkout.
