hey everyone, i'm exploring the possibility of a cod4 tournament.

DATE: 19th Jan (if there's enough time for players to confirm) or 23rd Feb (After CNY)
LOCATION: TBUN Aman Suria
PLAYERS: 32 OR 48 OR 64
FEE: RM 20
PRIZES: tbc
MAP:
TIME: 10am onwards or 7pm onwards (usually takes about 4 to 6 hours to complete 1 tournament)
GAMEPLAY: team based with 16 randomly chosen each round. winner with highest scores win.
GAME OBJECTIVE: Deathmatch?


would anyone like comment?

some questions on my side:
1. does the game need a server to be created?
2. how many max players in a team?

2nd thing, about teams.
Get enough participants to enter, event organiser get must get ready with numbers in card or paper.
Roll it up and put in bucket.
Let each of the person take 1 number.
Then the team members will be decided using odd or even.
Fair?

players will be randomly placed in team to make it more fairer, no team is too imbalanced.

you can send a team, but i'll be breaking them up and randomly placing them with other teams.
its a tourney on getting the most kills. your teamwork skills are important when playing with people you don't know.

I know its a casual tourney but since the game setup is set to default tdm without perk restriction so I must say this:-

hopefully its HC Search and Destroy or Domination as playing team deathmatch is boring and really gets dull fast as alot will just camp as there is no objective, where else if Free For All is mindless fun and all its still mindless...

im going to do FFA (but its not final), but in this FFA, i will be jumbling up players in teams and each player needs to work together with strangers to try to get the most kills. each player will be individually ranked after each match with additional bonus points if your team wins.
then in the next round, players are randomised again, this way you will be playing a typical FFA in the cafe, with different people all the time!
the idea is to play random, work with strangers will keeping urself alive. sure ther might be campers but teamwork will play an important role.

here got lots of cod4 kaki, these days cod4 kaki here are more than dota kaki already...

can u imagine 20 over players playing shipment in FFA? all hell will break loose...but if u make it the way ur about to its going to take alot of recording and management...im for the torny i go to Tbun often for cod4 so GL in organizing this...

breaking ppl up randomly is a horrible idea.

probably 5v5 with gamemodes such as capture the flag or capture the point would be nice but not sure if local populace is familiar with such things at all (since afaik not many ppl play fps anymore and even fewer tried anything further than dm)

you should try a tf2 tournament instead. the tf2 scene is growing up nicely. lots of new clans popping up to contest with the old. check out the gamesync forums. they're still exploring the possibilities but most rules have already been established locally and internationally.

I disagree.. I am from MBT and very active in FPS online gaming especially in the Battlefield series and COD4 is happy to say that FPS is still strong, only not as strong as the number of players from DOTA.. but how i see is that we just need to bring back those glory days from the ppl that was once from CS.. yes ladies and gentlemen, malaysia was full of gamers which the majority was CS(Counter Strike) and if any of you who is unaware what that game is(been living under a very big rock) an FPS.. And all this blood hungry junkie need is a taste of it and they will flourish all we need is to make the first step.. I employ you not to make this an individual contest as COD4 will really be greater if it was a team based contest..

Please reconsider the FFA method.. If your worried about not going to have enough people/teams/clans that will be joining this brilliant event, fear not as i will try to bring in as many Battlefield series players into this event and if your wondering, MBT has over 50 players.. And this is not including players from other Battlefield series like @MP, XEF, FFF, CERT and etc..

PLEASE RECONSIDER IN MAKING THIS EVENT INTO A HARDCORE SEARCH AND DESTROY MODE OR DOMINATION MODE as this will test every team's teamwork and skills..

BTW helicorpster you say there are times in your CC that COD4 players are more then DOTA players? I like this.. tell me more about this.. When do they play the game? Do you mind if MBT drop by on these occasions?

HC Search & Destroy sounds very interesting. It would be really cool to see the local scene come up with teams to participate.

This would encourage the formation of more local clans

I understand the purpose of breaking up ppl into team randomly. Please give the new and curious ppl a breathing chance. Bring your dota friends to play this game, spread the words!!! because now dota tourney is all about clan matches, newcomers can't budge in unless they have a uber skillz or join a decent clan and mix in with their top tier lineup. I believe pro tourney will be scheduled after this even if this event is somewhat unsuccessful.

yes, its to introduce noobs to the game in a casual format while having an objective (not a grand cash prize, but with enough incentive to try the game and have fun).

I don't mind but make it TDM. There's no sense in having a competition and having just DM. Leave DM to Unreal and Quake. Their maps are more suitable for it.

And a few suggestion on my part,

- Ban Shipment and Wet Work. These maps are grenade magnets. No use in calling it a tourney even a casual one at that if everyone's just going to lob grenades at each other.

- I don't mind the other modes, but i haven't played them yet. I've only played Hardcore once and TDM most of the time. I'm guessing it's safe to say that the others in the CoD thread mostly play TDM or Hardcore as well.

- I advocate FFA ONLY AND ONLY IF there aren't enough people for TDM.

- Lower the fees, even BF tourneys arent this expensive. RM10 should do about right. Especially if you have more people.

, DM tourney is just dumb. DM FFA that. This is not quake, or you could have it DM 1v1, that's it. Anything else, drop it. move on to the usual Team based matches. Meaning HC SnD, or HC, Domination.

So much more things to learn from HC SnD & HC Domination, teamwork is very very important in those modes, since you say "to work together with strangers", im thinking you want the community to grow right? Well you dont want hardcore, then just make it SnD 5v5 or 5v5 Domination. Would be great if its a 8v8, do you have that many players on your side?

We have the battlefield community could send 3-5 teams already.

A1.Random (since u just want to intro ppl to the game and there might be some uber teams out there)

A2.Anything but wetwork and shipment would be fine "Bloc" mayB?

A3.Depends on amount of players the more joins the more time you will need but afternoon till about night shoule be ok with breaks la

A4.5 or 8 players 3 players is too little for other maps which are HUGE

by the way im from ipoh @@ would be also interested to come over KL for a 2days vacation for it, mebbe 3 days if got lenglui introduced there =P

A1. Random teams, since CoD4 is a new game, not many people know how to play it, so it wouldn't make teams imba.
A2. Anything except Shipment and Wetwork of course. (Nade and Noobtubers' heaven)

A5. Teamdeathmatch is a good game mode for starters, new players would know what to do from the very start. Just eliminate the opposing team . Also since most people know Counter-Strike, playing Search and Destroy is exactly the same as PlantBomb/Defuse maps. I also recommend Sabotage and Domination game modes.

A2. I believe there're around 16 maps in COD4 Multiplayer (excluding the map Winter Crash) so maybe you could take in about 5 maps or so, based on votes from the participants whose interested to join in this event.

A3. Around 10-11 in the morning to afternoon onwards.

A4. Minimum 5 and a maximum 7 players inclusive of 2 subs.

A5. Hardcore Search & Destroy / Domination / Team DeathMatch.

Gamemode, i prefer sabotage, got an objectif. But some peaple dont understand how to play sabatoge, we go for TDM. xD

Search & Destroy mode is the de facto format for CoD4 tourney but personally I like Sabotage

Q1 - I don't mind random. But i prefer fixed if a clan team was going to play

Q2 - Anything but Wetwork and Shipment. These maps aren't kind for newbies and both are grenade spam heavy.

Q3 - If it's going to be a weekend, starting in the morning should do it. I agree with qulkz on this, 10-11 is just nice.

Q4 - Maximum of 8 and minimum of 5. And allow at least one sub to standby in case.

Q5 - TDM/Sabotage/S&D.

A1. If this an introductory tournament, I suggest mixed players so it will be more player friendly and not owned by a single team. On the other hand, if you make fix teams, without a doubt you'll start to see CoD4 clans being made which is also good.

A2. No Shipment or there will be spawn-camping. No Wet works or a rank 41+ will just take 3 frag nades and just keep on throwing them. Turns the tourny into a Bomberman Tourny. All other maps will be fine but depending on the amount of players.

A3. If there are many players then you'll need more time unless you create more servers but be reminded that the server host lags more than usual.

A4. If you want 3 or 5 players in a team, I suggest Hardcore mode. On Regular mode, I would go with 8. That isn't too much nor too little.

A5. If Hardcore, play it with a few players so then will be more coordinated and not confusing and also with a purpose such as Search & Destroy or Domination modes. This will encourage a mixture of rushers and campers because if you play Hardcore on a Team Death Match, braise yourself for a camp fest which would make many players furious.
If Regular, any mode would be fine. On Regular, it promotes new set of tactics in a game. Flanking, Sniping, Rushing, etc etc. The Radar is important for tactical ops.

i prefer play sabotage than domination. domination is not suitable mode for CoD. if like bf2 is ok...big map...
i like hardcore mode. but how about the rookie player? the sure noob in the 1st place. so it's better play normal mode. last time i play at tbun wangsa maju, they dun wan hardcore cause they said it's hard to play. no map and all.

In Tbun, Aman Suria we play Hardcore sometimes and I notice that the true nature of hardcore shows itself in small amounts of players. But thats not why I'm posting.


What I'm here to talk about is regarding the K/D Ratios and Teammate Sabotaging Rules.

Ever noticed how easy it is to get a kill using the Grenade Launcher?
And ever noticed that the top fragger may have 30 kills with 23 deaths while you have 24 kills with 5 deaths?
My point is, a rule has to be set in the tourny that for every certain about of death, you receive a kill penalty.
Enough to effect the overall score but not enough to make everybody camp.
You guys get the picture? It would be easy to just get Overkill and respawn with 4 Grenade Launcher rounds each time. I can just fire randomly at enemy from afar and die when I run out of all my explosives.

Another thing I would like to meantion about is, if we were to place random players in a TDM(Team Deathamatch) and then give rewards to the top fragger(losing/winning team), making rivalry within the team itself, some of the team members might sabotage the top fragger in his team by giving infomation to the opposing team. It's actually very simple, just press "T" and say something like "XXX player is on the highest roof" and BOOM! 3 grenades starts stacking on the roof. Should a penalty be imposed againts those who sabotages their own teammates for their own personal gain?
In a dog eat dog world, I would do anything to make my way to the top.

Hey ashley whats up... u also into this ar? habis la we all,mayBe Blackdog also playing...i think everyone should start with stocks of course it will be imba for new players to just join at rank 1 and see rank 55 ppl (ashley) pwning the crap out of them (me)...and i agree with the death penalty thing that ashley propose although it will be abit more paper work but it will stop noob spammers bloody noobtubes....

Hardcore is very very cool but may not be noob friendly....

Oh you haven't meantioned the few players who are better than me...

I don't suggest stock weapons. I say it should be open to all. Rank just means that you have more weapons and more perks but that doesn't make you any better againts other players and besides that, fixing a tournament date would allow other players to start ranking up if they need to. Some of the staff have not heard about it and the last time I went to the cafe, I forgot to promote this topic to the players. The next time I play in Tbun, I'll make sure I get everybody to come and visit this topic. I don't think the staff of Tbun will announce anything yet since this tourny has not been officialized yet so it's up to me and you to spread the news there.

Well anyway, the best way to get from rank 1 to rank 55 fast is to use every single gun and finish the 3rd Marksman Challenge and do all the simple Challenges. You can get from Rank 1 to at least 40 in 2 days.

Hmm i think that they should have allowed and non allowed perks so that we can have balance a game play...if u guys have dl'ed the flle in post #41 and read it it only allows a few perks which i find fair so i think we will see about that... but about gun attachment we should be able to decide our selfs (RDS ftw).

Anyways will circle this news around the cc and frens c how they respond too it does "kitty" "General Dispare" and "frostynipples" know about this yet?...Ash going Tbun later? i might be there about 2 to 3pm

Back to topic, alright you can cut out some perks. Perks but the only perk I feel is least useful would be Eavesdrop and the annoying perk, Matrydom. But perks aren't the serious issue. It is the method of getting kill which is a pain in the neck but then again, if the death is given the penalty, they wouldn't be able to depend on Grenade Launcher so much.

I'm going to the cafe soon. I'll ask more people to check out this site and hopefully they can find their way into here. Alright, thats all for now. Bye.

breaking up people playing randomly = opportunity for group of friends to game the system = splitting the prizes between the friends = waste of time for organizer
hope that makes sense as well.
if you don't know what gaming the system means then yeah, you probably should just stick to whatever is easier to understand since that works for you.

One thing, the age limit is rather high. I highly recommend that you allow gamers who have parental consent and are below 16yrs of age to play. If this is okay for CEL2007 i don't see why you shouldn't do the same.

Yepz waiting and waiting. Today's SnD was rather... alright... Need more practice if we were to play in the tourny. But I think if King Kong wants to play Search and Destroy in the tourny, the teams should be fixed or the rounds will be very mixed up since everybody aren't going to be very coordinated.

Lol todays 1 was not bad la besides a few @ holes team killing....SnD really need teamwork and hardcore mode is dam cool..

Hardcore mode is only fun to play on those modes and when the game isn't overly packed.

Seriously, we need conformation regarding the tourny. Rules, players, modes, etc. Without that, cant do much other than trying to complete all the challeges.

@Xionus, still waiting for comformation fron King Kong. If victory is based on fixed teams then the price will be larger but splited between members and if each team has 8 players, the price becomes rather small even if it was RM4k for the winner. I suggest this:

More players = Bigger Prices

1 player = RM20 ---->Entry cost
8 players = RM 160 -----> Entry cost per team

If there were lets say.... 10 teams = 80 players -----> RM1600.
Don't ya think it is kinda little? RM1600 divided by 8 players gives RM200 and not to mention, there are 2nd and 3rd place too and maybe some for the organizer?


On the other hand, if it was an individual match and if 80 players join equating to RM1600 and maybe there can be 1st - 5th place or till 3rd place, whichever you deem reasonable.
1st place = RM700
2nd place = RM500
3rd place = RM200
4th place = RM100
5th place = RM100



Or you can get sponsorships to increase the price weightage but I'm not an organizer so I'm not familiar with this kind of arrangements.

Somehow I think haviig fixed teams would be quite fun. I've just been thinking... If you had fixed teams, you encourage more teamwork which is much much different from just a usual day at the cafe. Most of the time, I enter Tbun, get a com, sit down and play a TDM. Even if I had my friends or cousins tag along and on the same team, we don't do much team work but rather, we fend out for ourselves. But if you had fixed teams and gave the teams more time to train, you will see a whole new level for CoD4 being played in the tournament. I hope you guys are on the same page as I am here.

Its just a thought.

I suggest the hardcore mode. Especially if it's anything below 5 vs 5. For one thing, teamwork actually really matters, nobody can run around on their own using a grenade launcher. That's likely to get you spotted fast and killed. Since there's a spawn time, the team that has the most players for the longest time will obviously have an advantage. The grenade launcher becomes less gay with a reasonably sized map. Nobody is forced to stay too close and be taken out with one shot. And since there is no mini map usually, you can't fire in the general direction of red dots and hope to get a kill. There is a question about perks though. For diversity and strategy, I suggest that everyone uses an account which has all the perks activated and simply change the handle. A form of "hack" would do the job . There is a problem with teams since not everyone can set up a team. So I suggest that those without teams enter a pool which is randomly set up into teams. Those who have teams will obviously have no problem. Besides I see alot of the same ppl playing COD4, could just recruit ppl over a game.

Holyboys, teamwork is important. No matter how skill a player is, if him/her or the team doesn't have teamwork then the team is as good as dead since with good teamwork, traps can be set up and so on. Nothing has been confirmed yet regarding random or fixed teams so I guess we'll have to wait. CNY is soon so I guess we shall have our answer soon.

Shifty, yeah. Teamwork would make the game much more fun than the usual pubbing style. Spawn, catch fishes, die, spawn catch fishes... LoL... Thats why recently I've been focusing on the challenges... Still remember the one I finished on you.

Yeah, thats what I proposed. In small matches, Hardcore would be sweet but in big matches, hardcore is a no-no. Enter page 3 of this topic and look at King Kong's 1st post there. There is a file to download and it contains a rough idea of how our tournament is going to be like. It hasn't been confirmed but thats just a guide line for ya.
You propose that everybody should be level 55 and using the same profile but just change the multiplayer name? I don't think that is possible because that will cause a clash of CDkey. The game will reject all the other CDkey except the 1st player who entered the game with it.
Regarding the Pool of Players, that would work but some people might be unhappy.





Well, because this game is new and I think my clan is the only clan around Tbun Aman Suria area, some people would have a lot of trouble making teams. In this case I think a notice of the tourny should be made about 1 and a half months before it takes place. Giving enough time for people to make clans and therefore no lost players. I can't wait till the day CoD4 becomes like what Counter Strike used to be.

Lol Solo clan FTW.... anyways for COD too reach CS standards is very very possible it would be more tactical then skill and take tremendous amount of teamwork...and i think now its really starting to pick up as more cc have it and i see alot of player play the game now so it really might make it....

I really hope that CoD will reach the heights of CS. Much more fun and much more tactical. Hardcore for tournaments can truly test the teamwork of the clan,i think that the tournaments should be in hardcore mode. Just my 2 cents

Right now, only Tbun Aman Suria has a lot of CoD4 players I think. I heard that Blitz Zone at Damansara Jaya has a few players there too but majority of the players there are on other games. Yeah, this game will make it to CS standards... one day.... It just needs more... advertisments.

There're many players at Tbun Wangsa Maju. I always plays there, but they all play TDM. Damn boring killing people only. But still fun coz many people play.
Too many noobtubers there. :S

I've been visiting Tbun Aman Suria for the past 2 weeks and I'm just amazed to see there are always a group of people playing CoD4 in this place. So yeah, the force is strong in this tournament.

Ah, then how bout' everyone just uses the same "hack" on every computer? If we have the cyber cafe's help, we can upload the file into the shared folder and everyone just uses it. I have friends that join me on the game but not many who would enter the tournament with me. Just one other actually.

Player participation is not the problem actually, everyday people are playing. I don't go all that often myself but everytime I do, it eventually turns into a 32 player tdm with some private games running.

I don't like the idea of big groups, makes it hard to organize and it'll just end up a kill-fest. Works for CS cause there's a spawn condition. Doesn't work too well with COD4 cause everyone will hit F and come straight back out and rejoin the killing. The spawning sytem is also really odd. Makes it really unfair in small maps. Spawn, die, respawn at same place, die again.

I suppose normal games might work out but the player per team must be limited. I think 8 vs 8 is really the max you can go, though I still think that's overboard. And definately no small maps.

Btw, if there's another clan showing up maybe Holy, Ash and the other more "seasoned" players should form a team to put up a fight. Be a shame for the Wangsa Maju regulars to lose out to outside people.

@Shifty I'll make sure I keep my distance from you next time then. I wouldn't want to bump into a potential suicide bomber. @@ I wanna do that airborne challenge but... Haihhh... even if it was a set up, it would be kinda tough.

@DeOmen, the tournament might be playing in the SnD mode if not TDM. What you say is right, many players in TDM would be close to pointless since no strategy is required and that is why I proposed the death penalty. I'm guessing you haven't read the topic from the start, have you?
