I life in Kuala Terengganu and have spotted quite a few Hermit Crab in the wild.

If I were to adopt this cute guys, how would I need to setup the tank?

Do I need to have both water (salt water) & land (sand) on the same tank?

Because in the wild, I see them walk around in under a big tree, then into the water (salt water river) ... just constantly walking around...

I also need to provide them with new & bigger shells as well as fresh water right?

Just wondering, where do these crabs get their fresh water supply in the wild? Since its just salt water all around them.

Better to adopt them in pairs or in a colony (a few of them) ?

maybe the size of the shell not suitable for it already. do you have some additional shells with different sizes? if you think that the shell is still suitable, you can try putting the hermit crab and the shell into a cup for a few hours and see if it will go back into the shell.

i tot noone interested in hermit crabs already...hahaha, long time didnt lurk around here already.

That one dead already. May be the condition of the aquarium not suit him over stress....

After read some opinion from online i already change my aquarium condition to more suit their habit.

Now is all sand with one bowl fresh and one bowl salt water.(last time only got salt water + stone)

Hello there everyone, I am new to hermit crabs. Bought 2 from Sunway Pyramid and another one from Ikano. I was told that these are Indonesian Hermits. They all seem to be doing well. However, I've noticed some 'fighting'. I have named one Tyson, as he likes to throw punches at the other hermies.

They chirp at night, especially during these 'confrontations'.

Yesterday, dropped Mimi on the wood floor and her shell cracked. Now there is a hole in it. I was worried that should they get into fights, Tyson and Shrekky might puncture her abdomen, so, i have pasted a small piece of masking tape on the hole. Any ideas how to get her to change her shell? I am worried!

you can leave some shells that is the correct size with it. if it sees fit, it will try it out. more extreme way would be isolating it in a small space with the new shells to let it notice the new shells. but it might not change the shell.

Thanks! She has already changed her shell biggrin.gif

Hi guys, one of my hermies, has become inactive overnight. Now, he is just lying on its side, limp. He has become darker than usual. Yesterday, he was still ok, walking about, climbing the log and drinking. Suddenly, this morning I noticed it was not moving anymore. At first, he was not limp. He still moved a little. Then, it went limp. His eyes are clear, body seems darker. Any advice on what is happening? Do you think its molting? from what I read, crabs have cloudy eyes and lighter coloured bodies when molting, but not this crab.

HELP!

it might be molting. normally, hermit crab will try to burry itself when it is trying to molt. anyway, you can try to let it be for a couple of days, if no foul smell (like rotten fish) then it's molting. or else, it's gone to heaven.

there aren't much we can do about a crabie that's not moving.
hopefully it's molting.

how cold do you normally set your AC?

hermit crabs are best staying in temperature around 22~27 degree celcius. or else you will need a heating pad.

oh, you're going to get land hermit crabs right? marine hermit crabs temperature depends on the type of marine hermit crabs you get.

have you read up some articles about them?

knowing what you are getting into is good before you start buying them. you will get some rough idea on their habitat and their behaviours.
below are a couple of sites that provides very good information on land hermit crabs.

well, they will need some dry land some water. putting water saucers would be fine as well, but remember to change them often.
