So far have not notice anything yet, except it retains all phone-memory data (contacts, sms, notes, etc.) after flashing.

Let me use it over the weekend and see...

I think it automatic detect the existing product code and apply the relevant firmware.

113MB = full firmware, including other languages. I think the actual firmware maybe just 10-35MB only.

To all who has problem upgrading firmware:

Step 1: Suggest you have latest Nokia PC Suite ver 6.85. Do a search in google "Download Nokia PC Suite" or someone provided the link in previous pages.

Step 2: Download NSU = Nokia Software Updater (or whatever it is called)

Install it, preferably in WinXP (most ppl will be running this platform)

Step 3: Plug in your phone using USB cable, select PC Suite in phone. Let Nokia PC Suite auto detect everything.

Step 4: Remember to set your phone Profile to General. If it is not General, the NSU will not work.

Advise you to do a phone memory backup, although not necessary.

Step 5: Open NSU and follow the steps.
(a) detect phone (1-2 min)
(b) download 113MB (depends on your bandwidth, mine is <15min on 2MB LL)
© Firmware upgrade (5-10 min)

Some advise:
- Make sure your phone is on full charge, or else plug into charger while updating.
- Make sure your PC have stable electricity power. Better to use laptop (with full charge batteries) running on AC power.

Bad things always happen right at the most crucial second, i.e. "updating firmware"

I think the software communicates directly to the GPS module, via Bluetooth / internal. It stores the Long/Lat coordinates embedded in the image itself.

Are you using gmapsuppMXT.zip instead of gmapsupp.zip ? assuming you are using June 2007 version as given by dzi921 step-by-step.

Can use v2.15, but must be gmapsuppMXT version, IINM. v2.20 cannot use yet, as per dzi921 info.

I'm not sure which v2.15 version you are using.

Pls go back to page 1, read the step-by-step from dzi921 carefully. Better to PM him for FULL instructions. There are some steps not listed due to *ahem* LYN policy...

I'm using June 2007 version. After following malsingmap procedures... I got the new link and codes for v2.15 from the malsingmap admin/moderator. No problem with abbr. e.g. Sultan, J. = Jalan Sultan

I notice you can set the map and POI details in GMXT settings.

I think ringing tone / Chat speaker loudness is subjective. It may sound loud to me in a particular area, but maybe soft to you... vice versa, etc.

I miss the edit-pen as in my previous N80

No lah. Got bugs if using GMXT ...

Yes, upgraded to v2.20 map for GMXT version File size is 1.8MB bigger (Latest: 27,734,016 bytes)

I was using Nokia maps with A-GPS continuous usage. Last me 2.5-3 hrs full charge, and RM30 worth of petrol... and RM24.90 in tolls ~200km travelled.

Previously play a lot with it daily. Battery lasts me 12-18 hours. Now seldom play with it, last me 2 days.

GSM only, WiFi off. Minimum calls <15 min. ~20 SMS.



In your case:

I think the 1/2 GPS eats up 20% of battery
1 hr call = 30% of battery
photos = 5-10%

About 60% gone, if morning full charge. Are there a lot of apps running in background ? =Press and hold the menu key.
