yrs ago ive heard tat they are using a device as small as a car alarm remote tat will detect emittion from the laptop battery.....

wat happens is tat when ur laptop battery is attached to the laptop it'll emit some sort of radiation or something like tat which is totally naked to the eyes

this device will detect these emittion hence even when u hide it in ur vehicles they will still know ur laptop is there

so u can either remove the battery or dont leave it there

Better post your Serial Number.

Write it to Apple Computers and I mean and just inform our local retails saying that your laptop is lost. Let them blacklist the serial number , so they are able to locate

Am sorry to hear about the loss; don't think ur gonna be getting your MBs or DSLRs back though *gulps*

Some of us do insure our laptops; hence if u did get yours insured, u would be able to claim from your insurance company some form of cash to get a new one

the insurance coverage premium that i heard last time was 2% of the selling price value, how much they pay you is depend on the market price for that machine when the incident happened.

Thieves can detect laptops in cars using "scanners" of some sort.

Is that true or just a myth?

I did this for my stolen VAIO last time n Sony Malaysia was willing to help. I made a police report for the stolen VAIO with serial numbers n all. Then I took the report to Sony service centre to notify them that the VAIO had been stolen. Sony said what they can do for me is to hold on to the laptop if it ever goes in to any Sony Malaysia service center for service or repairs. Then they'll call me in to sort it out with help from the police.

Apple should be able to do that for u too.

@kwekeugene,
From what I been told, the detector detects the CMOS batt so even if we physically take the batt out of the notebook, it's still detectable. The best is to carry our laptops with us at all times.

@rx330,
Mine's insured too - only thing not insured are the information on the HDD. And now that I'm customising my desktop and stuff, I am most reluctant to lose mine - i wonder if i could tell the thief, go ahead and take the laptop but give me back my HDD *grins*

@rx330,
Just the other day during lunch, a guy left his Crumpler bag next to him; in an easily 'grab-able' position. Though it was a Black Crumpler, it looked pretty nice *grins* I jokingly told my friends i was tempted to just grab the bag and run off *grins* - except i know how troublesome it can be with lost files, hence suggested perhaps I should just go up to the fella and grab his bag and tell him he's got 5 seconds to empty it !! *grins*

I think it's important to just becareful, whether or not your laptop's insured or not! The heartache's less if it's insured but it's still heart breaking to have to lose all those data!

I don't think thieves do much good things around here. The only way is to make regular backups of your phone/laptop.

For Mac, use SuperDuper to make an exact clone of your HDD
For phones, I just sync the contacts I have to my Mac.

As for the recovering your Macs, there is this service online which keeps track on your Mac if ever if goes missing.

thats if you have the macbook switched on, or you have a portable speakers that allow everyone to hear it. The sound isn't that loud and its still an unstable software. The only good it does is that it takes photo, but i believe his notebook was closed...isnt it..

@-Jonathan-,
Speaking of sound. Is it me or do I find the MBP speakers a little soft; i mean, especially in a crowded/noisy environment? Other notebook speakers seem to at least be loud enough to listen, unlike mine!

Not really rx330, it depends on the type of notebook

My friend is using a HP DV9000 series, using altec lansing speaker, has easily one of the most audible sound ever. Macbook has really low volume
