Quick question. Any benefit of taking OCBC Platinum Robinson's card?
*
i am of the opinion that ocbc malaysia has totally 'cheapened' the prestige of platinum by offering this card. the income requirement isnt even half of what other banks demand to be platinum cardholder. what a shame.

Ok allow me to clarify this once and for all. I just went to CIMB just now, application form in front of me now.
Platinum, Gold, Classic, all free for life for CIMB Mastercard (NOT DA)
Platinum Supplementary also free for life
Gold and Classic Supplementary free for 1st year only
Exchange rate is determined by Mastercard International + NO administration cost

If you're asking about the OCBC Robinson's Platinum, as I mentioned before it's just 48k  doh.gif
*
48k as min income requirement? this robinsons platinum will be the joke of the wannabes.

Of all the platinums on offer, the one bring down the standard most is OCBC Robinsons Platinum card. you can get it even if your salary hardly reaches 4,000. Such a disgrace!

i think at the moment, the most respectable platinum credit card in the market is the hsbc visa platinum. annual income requirement still as high that is RM 150k per annum. if charge card were to qualify, it is definitely american express platinum. that card when it first reached malaysia has a requirement of RM 300k per annum. now reduced to RM 190k per annum. that card you can really feel the platinum privileges!

petronas is quite smart in choosiing their strategic partners for its credit cards. they give to maybank for visa cards and cimb for mastercard. do you realize that? quite smart right. that way both banks get their business.

when it comes to credit limit increase, the banks would normally increase (without us having to ask) judging from our spending and payment pattern. if you spend a lot and keep paying only 5% monthly, that doesnt score much on their credit rating. you must pay at least 30% of your remaining balance.

of all banks, i find hsbc is quite flexible in increasing credit limit. last year i have salary adjustment of RM 2000 and they increase my limit by another RM 6000 in addition to my existing limit. once in awhile, show them you are able to afford to pay by paying your bill in full.

So if you always pay in full, the increase of limit should be given OK easily ?
*
definitely. that shows you have the capacity to pay.

why hsbc platinum like very dull... no diamond shining like other platinum ? platinum word also so small and ugly.. looks macam ONE platinum..haha
*
i like it this way. better. when i use my maybank visa platinum, the writing is so big it attracts unnecessary attention. what for? and hsbc's platinum is black colour. nice!

From my experience with HSBC, there's no integrity of information across the credit card division. So beware of it.

please explain.

UOB visa platinum is more simple.. black and only platinum word.. I think hsbc is the only platinum card without the diamond shining color... except the UOB ONE plat card  tongue.gif  why so low class make the card.. I thought u guys say hsbc very high class ?  hmm.gif

requirement is rm150k, lower cant apply ?
*
hsbc platinum has elegance in its simplicity. if you notice foreign banks like hsbc and citibank, their platinum cards are quite simple. hsbc's platinum card before they relaunch the whole new design last year looks exactly like the classic card with only the writing PLATINUM below the hsbc writing. like others said, you dont need to showoff if you have it. looking at the black colour of the card tells a lot. i dislike those cards with very big P on it. very flashy and distasteful.

Added on March 17, 2008, 11:38 amcould any of you share your platinum card experience? im planning on cancelling some of my cards. i need your input to decide which ones i should maintain.

wah... why so big different for 2 bank? My friend say they will follow other card limit correct ? RM35k for gold then normally platinum how high?

need how much income only can get more than 10k credit ?
*
generally platinum limit is above 50k as far as im concerned. but i know a few people who have limits in the region of rm 200,000. but with banks lowering the income requirement for plat cards, i wont be surprised if there are plat cards these days with limits as low as RM 20,000.

it is a great insult to deserving platinum cardholder with this uob one platinum card. nowadays, there are just so many platinum cards around from many banks.

but one thing for sure, the american express platinum charge card is still able to snub them all. be it citibank or hsbc or maybank, no other platinum card is as prestigious as amex platinum in malaysia.

My cousin say platinum card requirement in singapore is same like gold card but annual fee different only.. soon malaysia platinum will be like singpaore also maybe worse.

my research..
platinum card : min income per month
uob ONE plat - RM1500
ocbc robinson - RM4000
standard & rhb - RM5000
cimb, eon , ambank - RM6k plus
alliance & maybank - RM10k
hsbc - RM12k plus...
*
like i said hsbc's platinum should still command reasonable respect. so for now the ultimate platinum to have in malaysia is the american express platinum charge card. income must be at least RM 16,000 monthly and at least a six figure bank balance is a must to get approval. failing to satisfy these criteria they may demand you to produce FD certs of at least RM 1 million in order to have it.

for the moment maybank and citibank are the largest credit card issuer in malaysia. i see so many people have citibank credit cards that i dont think it is exclusive.

Added on March 22, 2008, 10:49 amdo you all know anyone who has the RHB Bank Visa Infinite credit card? it is black in colour and higher than platinum. Annual income required when it was launched was RM 380,000. Credit limit starts at around 200k. I saw once someone use this card.

Citibank (and also StandardChartered, HSBC) is well recognized if you use it overseas. To be fair to be fair actually all credit cards are accepted overseas but sometimes being recognized has its privileges. My experience with Citibank is good when it comes to handling transaction disputes - during the "petrol station fraud crisis" they accepted all my transaction disputes with minimal hassle. All my other cards at that time (including UOB) asked me to put up a lot of evidence and justifications to support my claims. I got all of them disputed in the end but Citibank gave me the least problems.

Never saw anyone carry the RHB Visa Infinite although I would sure love to own one. Agreed that the design for this card is cool. Wish that HSBC Premier also have equally cool design (Platinum design is better unfortunately) - similar to VISA Infinite, this HSBC card is higher than Platinum and carries a whole lot of other privileges. Not everyone can own this card - your income need to justify it.

Which... HSBC Premier?

Today I just applied an EON Bank Mastercard Platinum from their branch, the sales staff wants me to support them. They are having promotion now, on-the-spot-approval. They told me will inform me by today and let me know whether my application is being approved or rejected. But till now have not received any call yet.  sad.gif

Maybank has just introduced its American Express Platinum Credit Card. Annual income requirement is RM 130k. The card looks like Amex Platinum Credit Card as issued in other countries. The privileges look quite exciting!

only citibank offers separate limit to its mastercard and visa cardholders. so, normally the agent would suggest you to apply just the visa. after about a year if your payment and spending pattern is good, they would offer you a mastercard with similar limit. so this way, you get double limit!
