Ouch, just miss by 1 cent.
I don't know how to hedge against RM. But you could hedge easily against other currency easily through forex platform for example SGD, Euro or AUD. The advantage is due to its leverage. For example to hedge, USD10,000 you only need USD25 for 400:1 leverage + some additional money to cater for currency fluctuation.

But I heard that sogotrade only allows wire back money, which costs about USD 50. No check will be issued for foreigners..

Been talking to E-Trade customer service. They are nice and reply emails fast too.

Yea, i agree. E-trade commision is high. 19.99.

If trade more than 30 transaction in 3 months, you'll get 9.99 and some other fees waiver.

Their office is at Singapore, it would be a good consideration if you prefer to speak to a real person. They speak mandarin too for those who prefers it that way.
Well, that's about fees and services, but not sure yet about their trading platform comparison to TD ameritrade.

Wish E Trade would reduce fee prices and offer more promo to international clients.
Btw, anyone buy healthcare stocks here?
*
Firstrade also support mandarin speaking.. you can talk with them using skype..

They charged 6.99 per trade, but you need all documents ready. There is a good real time streaming quote.

I think Sogo is better, but it only allows TT back 50USD (no free cheque issued), that means for long term only Sogo is better. Do they have real time streaming quote?

Earned USD1.05. Minor profit after one week waiting.. smile.gif

Can buy nasi lemak already.. wink.gif

How you guys see the profit taking taking over, market is weakening?
From which respect do you judge the market's condition besides its futures status?

Added on October 9, 2009, 10:32 pmAnd how do you guys tell that buying power turns weaker now?

Really could not predict the market.. but I did earn USD 1, quite a good sign for my first US Trade.
Can't lose for the first trade. smile.gif

But one thing for sure is there is not much good news available in near future..

Still a manipulative trading on C.

Price stuck in the zone of 460-480 for last 3 weeks.
Perhaps the traders are waiting for the earning report.

Anyway, spend d last 4 hours searching for better broker - cheap, allow day trade. fast execution, great GUI, great support and transparent.

Will update the info here.

*P/s - 95% many of them claimed to be CHEAP but hidden cost everywhere.
*
I think in term of brokerage fee with reasonable service, Sogotrade offers USD 3 per trade, but without streaming quote.
The disadvantage is they does not allow free check withdrawal, which costs about $50 per withdrawal.
The money deposit itself has cost RM25 (suppose you use maybank wire) + conversion lost + US$15 (US receiving wire fee)
The money withdrawal costs about US$ 50 + conversion lost + RM 10 (Malaysia receiving wire fee).
That means we should be ready to bear RM300 loss before we even started to trade.

I am using firstrade now with $6.95 per brokerage. I mean I have to earn more than US$13.90 in order to make a profit.

I am thinking of a cheap way, mailing the banker cheque (Postal fee RM8.00 + bank commision about RM 10 + 3 weeks waiting time).
Withdrawal using firstrade is free, which takes about 3 weeks.
But, I might run into risk of missing my postal mail, especially when they send to me, it used regular mail.

In term of using local borkerage, I guess CIMB offers US$25 per trade. If you want to buy one time off and sell it after a few years then it worth. But you know.. US market is so volatile, I don't think holding it for long term will be beneficial.

I think they restrict you to withdraw money for some time if they subsidize you to do so..

*
You can. if you account has more than US$25000, then firstrade does it for free, if not Sogo may charge US$50.

After that, you may have to wait for a few months for withdrawal..

I just discovered that Sogo does not have option trading and mutual fund.

Well, all brokers have their pros and cons...

Why firsttrade? Any good?

What I found, after researching each and every popular broker over here : http://www.elitetrader.com/br/

- ACH is pretty much cheap or free
- international wire the cheapest is USD25 and 50$ mostly and up to $70
- cheapest fee is $0.00075 per share - good for traders below 500 shares
- most company will charge streaming quote
- every cheap rate comes with restriction such as deposit, no of trades, bad customer service, low grade platform, poor fill/execution.

In short, no single broker is the best - IBtrading, TD, MBt.

So, if you are : retail trader, day trader, swing trader or long term investor : almost every broker has their own weakness n strength.

Thing to consider:
- how many time u going to trade a week?
- is the customer service good
- how fast your account being update/opened/settle
- trading platform GUI
- streaming quote (for day trader)
- options for other investment type : future, commodities, options, forex
Then they will answer your COMMISSION and MARGIN requirement.

So far, Im happy with MBtrading, after reading all the comments, reading off their individual websites.
*
Except for needing to post the W8-BEN form which took about 2 weeks, I generally ok with their service.
Their chat system usually reponses within minutes and emails within hours. I phoned them sometimes.
But they charge me US$6.95 per trade, which is quite high for me. (compared to sogo)
Firstrade can do cash, margin, option, mutual fund and grants, they are already decades in business.

Yeah.. you are right: no single best broker. firstrade offers free streaming. I think if you are going to trade professionally, firstrade should be to the standard. No minimum is required. No forex.

I did think of changing to Sogo, but according to them, $500 is the minimum and they only allows $50 wire out for international investors like us.

I am not confident with $2 dollars trade brokers, since they receive bad feedbacks.
Perhaps I will leave my money in firstrade until it grows.
After that, I may deposit my new money to Sogotrade, which I will keep for long terms.. What is your opinion?

I think you refer to transfer of stock from one broker to another broker. But If I sell off all my sogo stock and perform the money transfer from sogo to ft. (Ft also US account). Do they still charge?

sogo can perform ACH transfer to another US account for free.
*
You must use account outward transfer, unless you have a normal US Bank account to do so. Or you can wire back the money then wire out again.
ACH only to US Bank normal account, not trading account. Of course no such facility to ease their competitors to get the money without some transfer fees (e.g. US$50 for Sogo). rclxub.gif

Added on October 11, 2009, 3:37 pmApparently I don't want to simply transfer my fund as each of them cost hundreds.. wink.gif until it grows.

Sorry to spoil your party, but first trade is not a choice of trading professionally. So, to compare with other broker, let's evaluate what First Trade have to offer :

- Margin requirment is strict, and high fees
- no Forex - duh, sometimes professionals need to HEDGE against USD
- no choice of alternative currency - ie trade in EURO
- poor news platform, charting
- $6.95 - expensive, unable to scalp
- For stocks at or under $2.00 and trades over 5,000 shares, add 1/2 cent per share for the entire order.
- Nasdaq Level II Streaming Quotes & Charts $19.95/Month
- Wire Out Funds - Domestic / Foreign  $30 / 35
- Smart (Valet) Account Annual Fee       $75
- E-Documents - Receive statements and confirms online FREE
- Dividend Reinvestment Plan (DRIP)    FREE
- no POWER USER tools : Download to Ms Excel and direct trade from there, No Ninja Traders,Turbo Trader, J Trader, RAN etc etc)
- No FUTUREs? Can't really find it where...

MBtrading also have some of the above listed. So, to sum up, Professional don't use FirstTrade, or TD, or MB - they will use Banker's platform directly.

I guess its okay if small time traders which hardly execute trade will use First Trade, Sogo, TD, MB, IB like us.

well.. you are right. the main downpoint should be US$6.95.
So.. I will use Sogotrade for next money transfer. smile.gif

Want to use IB, but do not have that much balance.

Anyone using Interactive Brokers here? It seem like they have $1+ fee only. Just wonder whether they have any hidden fee. $1 fee is very nice for small trader.
*
IB needs at least US$10k to open an account. Their service range is the broadest and cross-national like Hong Kong, Europe, India, US ++

For small investor like me, I will use Sogo in future..

Ok lar.. since my sogo is already activated. I might use it for next round.

GHz, are you sogo user now? Can you briefly elaborate your experiences and how much cost involved?
Have you tried to withdraw money before?

yes I notice that IB need $10k initial deposit & also there is monthly fee for streaming price. Just wonder is there any other fee?

I been using SOGO for the almost 2 months now. I am happy with their service so far. Its $3 brokerage fee per trade so you get you paid for. Just get my account with Zecco & MBTrading approve as well.  Zecco platform seem worst than SOGO but MBTrading seem to be impressive to me but with higher brokerage fee.

So for the time being I stick to SOGO until I found out whether IB is really the cheapest & I accumulate enough USD to open with them. biggrin.gif
*
For small investor like us, brokerage fee is sometimes the most important thing, as long as we can trade, even though the interface is basic only. wink.gif let me know if anyone found the cheapest with no minimum requirement and no conditions..

Yes I am, almost 2 months with them now. So far I am happy with them. Although I find out that it is impossible to do live chat, nobody will entertain you. Email is fine though. You get what you pay. hehe.

Cost wise, it just the $3 per trade that's all. You will get 100 free trades when you register with them. You have to utilize within 1 month. I only use 30 free trades. So the rest is gone.

No I have not try withdraw money yet. So far only make $100+ profit. Not justify to withdraw yet. By the way I have US Bank Account so there is no fee on deposit. It will be the same for withdrawal.

Small tips for those who have US Bank account to save transfer fee. You buy paypal fund here in LY. Normally it is cheaper than official exchange rate. So you withdraw your paypal to US Bank account & transfer it to your trading account. SEE no fee ma & get cheaper rate. Its take slightly longer time tough.

Anything else you want to know about SOGO?

Added on October 11, 2009, 5:48 pm

Yes I agree, simple interface is OK. To see streaming price just use MBTrading but trade with other account. biggrin.gif
*
Yeah, it is the point. smile.gif

I don't have US account, so can't take advantage of ACH. By the way, I am not planning to withdraw too often, unless I really need that money. wink.gif and also until I earn enough.

How do you open US account? I been to US but never open one there.. now regret..

First, I may need to thank GHz for assistance to open sogotrade account. He do help me a lot.

For information, I open many online trading account. But so far, I like sogotrade interface. But I don't like the US50 tt back to malaysia.

Last friday, I manage to TT from my maybank to sogotrade. Maybank will charge me RM 10 and US will charge US 23. I just check my account, my fund already inside sogotrade. So can start my trade tomorrow.

For those who want to have cheaper way of withdraw money from sogotrade. Another option will be ACH to GHz and tt back to malaysia. But can we trust GHz?
*
mynewuser, one thing to confirm: are you sure maybank only charge RM 10? and US charges USD 23?
from my previous experience, maybank charge RM25 while US charge US15.
I am moving to Sogo soon. May be we can share some experiences. smile.gif

You save $2 per trade. let's say if 30 trades per month, you save $60, which is RM200+.
Somemore 1st month totally free. I have get my account approved, need to bank in in 30 days.
