this is all bullshit. heck, you can even switch on your phone and nothing happens with the flight
it's not the 70's. current naviagtional equipment is quite advanced that interferences from a small ipod, your handphone, your wi-fi or even cdplayers don't do a thing. you can google for more info one thing i dun understand is why those pesky flight stewardess still insist to turn off any electronic devices, but didn't check for switched off phones. |

it all depends on the electronic design of the device. some emits signal with high frequencies which may cause intereference.
maybe the signal come from that part that's handling user input (touch pad, lack of debouncing signal), output (audio), or even power supply. The thing is, it's hard to design a fullproof electronics circuits. It can and should be done, though. anyway, it's a good thing to advice everyone to switch off their electronic gizmos since maybe quantitatively it may harm the flight. |

QUOTE(youngkies @ Dec 13 2007, 07:59 AM) ipod do not interfere with radio signal. dont mix ipod with iphone. Sry..my bad.basically pda, mp3 player, laptop, camera, mobile phones on airplane mode can be switched on during cruising. the only time it is not allowed is when the plane is taking off or landing or during taxi. listen to the instruction, with long haul flight, they will tell you when you can switch on your electronic devices except phone. the announced it every first time when the seat belt 'on' indicator is switched off and last time when the light is on, ready to land. and wifi is allowed on plane actually. i have used wifi numerous time on board because the plane (SIA) was equipped with free wifi since 2006. I referring to iTouch...my bad. And yea...even my pda got flight mode...the cabin guy dont allow me to activate it...instead, force me to shut it off... So, yea...I did wonder too...why cant we use flight mode... maybe they just want to be safe...anyway, is all good. This post has been edited by KenAragorn: Dec 13 2007, 10:15 PM |

nevermind all the hype of disruption on handphone signal to the radio system in the phone.
in close time we can see handphone can be used on the plane. just like wifi on the plane, one year after the announcement of possibility of wifi on the plane, i already saw it on the SIA plane. and handphone on the plane project was already announced sometime mid of this year. |
