Hugo Weaving Will Return In Tranformers Revenge Of The Fallen

A journalist for the Australian paper- The Advertiser, Sean Fewster tips us on a returning voice actor for the next movie that completely refutes one Michael Bay's original statements about the movie sequel.

One of Sean's co-workers at the paper, film writer Andrew Fenton interviewed actor Hugo Weaving:

"Mega Secret
By Andrew Fenton
Film Writer, The Advertiser

In town to promote his rather excellent new Aussie film, "Last Ride", Hugo Weaving let slip he'll be returning as the voice of Megatron in "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen".

Fans no doubt will recall that when we last saw Megatron, Sam (Shia LaBeouf) had rammed the All Spark cube into his chest, thereby destroying him. Despite this certain death, rumours have been circulating the villain was going to make a comeback. Director Michael Bay went so far as to flatly deny the rumour, telling Empire: "He's not in the movie".

Turns out Bay was fibbing.

So how is Megatron resurrected? Weaving is coy about revealling too much, but does give a tiny hint.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
he laughs.

We'll find out on June 25, the film's Australian release."

For those hoping for the return of Generation One Megatron voice actor Frank Welker to take the role if the big bad in the sequel, well it appears you are out of luck. What other voice actors from the first film will be making a return? Stay tuned to Seibertron.com for more revenge news as it happens

Megatron is His Middle Name

user posted image

For some people a middle name must be more than meets the eye, case in point — Jason Burrows. His middle name of Michael just wasn’t cutting it, so he took legal action and changed his name to something with a bit more power and pizazz — Megatron!

Burrows, who works as the Assistant Imaging Director for 96.5 Jack-FM here at CBS Radio in Seattle, as well as troops as a 501st Legion member in the Titan Garrison under the designation TK-757, decided to change his middle name to Megatron for a variety of reasons, all stemming from a conversation about tomatoes as he explains below.

Why did you decide to change your middle name from Michael to Megatron?
The decision to change my name came after a long discussion that a few of my friends and I had about middle names,” Burrows explains. “My ex-girlfriend’s brother changed his middle name from Bernard to Tomato when he was in high school. Bernard was a family name that he really didn’t care for, and he had been called Tomato on his high school sports teams for years, so he asked his mom for permission and made it happen.

After that conversation, we all talked about what I could change my middle name to, since Michael was so “ordinary.” With all the excitement that my friends and I had about the Transformers movie coming out and Megatron being my favorite character from that universe, it was an easy choice. I also liked the fact that my middle initial wouldn’t change, so my banking and financial paperwork could stay the same. I can still maintain the “professional” Jason M. Burrows, while having the fun of a totally unique name. At first, the whole thing was all theoretical, but after researching the cost and process, I decided to go for it.

What was the legal process like?
The legal process was surprisingly easy. The hardest part about it was gathering the $100 for all the court fees. I didn’t have the extra hundred laying around, so my friend Adam suggested that I ask for donations. On a whim, I posted the story on my Livejournal page with a PayPal donate button, and my friends answered the call! My friend Deven donated the initial $20, then suggested that I have people sponsor a letter after that, so each letter of Megatron is “owned” by a different friend!

Once I had the cash in hand, I chose to go to the court July 2 since the movie was opening at 8pm that evening. I filled out the paperwork, turned it in with the filing fees to the clerk and was told to be back at the courthouse at 1:30pm to go before the judge. I agreed and showed up to Judge Eilleen Kato’s courtroom. She came in and said that she’d be hearing name changes first. The first lady got up and changed her last name to honor her birth family. Next, a family went up, and the mom and dad both said that their daughter would like her name changed to Jessica, so the judge signed that order. I was third on the list. I walked to the front, where she had me raise my right hand to swear that I would tell the truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth. She asked if my name change was to defraud creditors, I said no. She asked if it would be detrimental to anyone else, I said no. She then asked if I was indeed changing my middle name to that of my childhood hero, I smiled and said, “Yes Ma’am.” She said, “Then I do order and decree that your name be changed from Jason Michael Burrows to Jason Megatron Burrows” with a huge grin. There were quite a few chuckles from the courtroom. I was handed the paperwork and headed back to work.

Did you face opposition from your family?
I actually haven’t told my parents about the change yet! My sister thinks I’m nuts, but she’s getting a kick out of how much fun I’m having with it. She’s due with her second kid in September and I’ve been sending her a bunch of name ideas. After I informed her of the name change, she told me not to bother sending Transformer names.

Did you friends and family think it was pretty cool?
Most of my friends love the fact that I changed my name. I’ve only received a few weird looks, but for the most part everyone thinks it’s pretty cool.

How do you think the name change will affect how people see you?
I don’t believe it will affect how people view me. I think that most people won’t ever know, since I don’t regularly use my middle name. The people that are close to me know and they like it, so that’s good enough for me. A few people have said that they’d be interested to see what future employers think when they look at my resume, but I figure if you don’t have a big enough sense of humor to find the fun in my name, I probably don’t want to work for you anyway.

Do you feel more powerful now?
That’s a good question. I think I’d have to say yes, I do feel more powerful. Now, once I install the fusion cannon on my arm, I’ll be set. *laugh*

Gun, Tank, T-Rex or Jet — which is the best Megatron and why?
The Generation 1 version of Megatron will always be my favorite. The gun all the way. One of my favorite memories as a kid was flying into Reno with my grandparents after returning from the Philippines. I had my original G1 Megatron in the gun form in my carry-on bag and got stopped by security. I ended up having to put him in a cardboard box and check him as luggage.

If there was a Transformers-Star Wars crossover, how well would Megs work with the Empire?
Ooh, Transformers-Star Wars crossover… that’s tricky. I think that the Decepticons would work well with the Empire to start, but the power struggle between Vader and Megatron would end up working against them, leading to the Rebel/Autobot victory — unfortunately.

Any advice to fans who want to go about legally changing their name to their favorite character?
My advice to fans who want to change your name would be — if you really want to do it, put on your Internet flame-retardant armor and go for it. And ignore what people say on forums. I’ve been called a lot of names since people found out, but in the end I’m happy with my decision and that’s much more important to me than what other people think.

Transformers 2: Michael Bay Confirms He’s a Liar, then… Lies Again?

user posted image

Remember when Michael Bay said that Megatron is “not in [Transformers 2]“? Last week Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen screenwriter Roberto Orci confirmed Megatron’s appearance and we called Mr. Bay a Liar. Bay has finally responded and admits that the “cat is out of the bag” and that “Megatron is back”.

But then Mr. Bay goes on to explain that “you will only get to see him from the long lost past.” That’s funny, because when the film was in production, /Film spies reportedly spotted the visual effects team using a miniature model of Megatron while shooting some key sequences. Could Michael Bay really be lying to fans again? Bay explains:

“We go way back in time as this movie explains the mythology of the Primes. He is not a tank like everyone suggests, but an alien vehicle. But sadly he does not has much screen time.”

Yeah… flashback… not much screen time… yeah. Potential spoilers after the jump.

Exhibit #1: he packaging for Megatron’s Leader Class action figure contains the following description:

Rebuilt with parts cannibalized from other Decepticons, Megatron rises once again to lead his army. Though the AllSpark destroyed him once, he can now feel its power coursing through his circuitry. It calls him to seize his rightful place as ruler over the puny planet on which he was imprisoned and destroyed, and from which he will launch his conquest of the universe. Optimus Prime is all that stands between him and victory, and the Autobot leader has done a poor job of hiding himself. At long last, Megatron knows exactly where his enemy is, and he has power enough to destroy him.

I understand that Bay is trying to protect his movie, but why must he continue to lie? Why not just come out and say, “Yes, Megatron is back. the movie is going to be AWESOME.” Instead, he claims that Megatron only appears in a flash back sequence, and puts us in the position to offer up evidence to the contrary.

Transformers: Generation 1
Chromia is one of Elita-1's most skilled and trusted field commanders. Her flair for battlefield improvisation is legendary, and she is very good at interpreting orders to best fit a changing situation. She is fluid in handling unexpected circumstances and compensating immediately. Chromia is one of many female Autobots that fought alongside Elita-1 during the Great Cybertronian War. She enjoys her life as a fighter, and shows personality and interests similar to her Autobot love, Ironhide.

Most Transformers and many humans tend to underestimate her abilities as a warrior. Chromia enjoys using this misconception and the response she gets once her allies (and enemies) discover just how ruthless and deadly she can be. Chromia is one of the original warrior femmes. She is an exceptional pilot and an experienced leader. An excellent tactician and leader, she often gets frustrated when troops don't follow orders to the letter during missions. She is sometimes overconfident in her abilities, and forgets that she isn't built as strong as some of her fellow Autobots. Therefore, she tends to need patched up a bit more often than her fellow Cybertronians.

Chromia is a female Transformer from the Generation One series, and partner of the Autobot Ironhide. A renowned battlefield commander and second-in-command of Elita-1's notorious female Autobot team. Like the rest of the female Autobots introduced in the episode The Search for Alpha Trion, she does not make another appearance in the animated series.

USAToday: Robo-brawlers big, small in new 'Transformers'

Mechanical jaguar Ravage, who serves as the Decepticons' spy, gets a new look and a surprising new skill in Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen.

user posted image
The spider-like droid called The Doctor has human hero Sam (Shia LaBeouf) pinned down.

It's always the quiet ones you need to fear.
Ninjas. Serial killers. Boba Fett. Gastrointestinal functions.

In Transformers lore, the mechanical jaguar Ravage has been a villain favorite since the 1980s for his stealthy tactics and deadly force. Ever since a four-legged mechanical beast prowled through the trailer for summer's sequel, Revenge of The Fallen, fans have been awaiting more word about the feline-ish Decepticon. As more robots in the June 24 movie are revealed, Ravage comes into focus.

"In the spirit of 'more than meets the eye,' Ravage isn't just lethal because of his sharp teeth," says screenwriter Alex Kurtzman. "There's actually another skill set Ravage has that didn't exist before, so there's going to be a surprise for fans."

This version of the cat already looks far different from the original, with a single glowing red eye and a swinging, mace-like tail, but his role will be similar to the 1980s cartoon and Hasbro toy — the ultimate spy.

Ravage often was dispatched to monitor the heroic Autobots and their human allies, reporting back to the Decepticons by transforming into a cassette tape and replaying his recordings through the larger robot master Soundwave, who switched into a Walkman-sized tape deck. (How a giant robot became a small piece of sound equipment was a comical hole in logic never fully explained.)

The cassette tape transformation is gone, of course; Ravage doesn't turn into anything. But Soundwave will appear, again serving as an evil communications expert but this time in the form of an orbiting space satellite.

"They are still connected," fellow screenwriter Roberto Orci says of Soundwave and his pet. "But rather than trying to hold onto a notion as antiquated as an audiotape, which some members of our audience have maybe never laid eyes on, we wanted to go a new way."

And Ravage, as before, won't speak like the other Transformers.

"We wanted to stay true to the idea that Decepticons who take visual clues from beasts maintain that," says Orci. "It would be strange to have a talking jaguar, or a scorpion with an English accent."

Filmmaker Michael Bay has ensured that Ravage has lots of company, including many redesigned favorite robots from the original 1980s incarnation, in the new film.

"We have big guys, some little guys. We have a lot of littler ones, too. Little weirder ones," Bay says. Like the Insecticons, which were giant bugs in the original series and Hasbro toy line, but are now tiny creepy-crawly infiltrators.

Bay, who collects the Vanguard Award Thursday night at ShoWest, offers a peek at others joining Optimus Prime and Bumblebee for another rock-'em, sock-'em robo-brawl.

AUTOBOTS (the good guys)

Jetfire:

As in the original, this fighter plane crash-landed on Earth a long time ago, and he will become a reformed Decepticon now fighting for the humans. His alternate form is the SR-71 Blackbird, the outdated but still-sleek Cold War spy plane.

"He's old, craggy, forgetful ... doesn't work very well. Can't transform very well, because he's very geriatric. They get stuck with him a lot," Bay says. "He knows the plan of the bad guys, but he forgets all the good parts of the plan."

New recruits:

Sideswipe, a candy-apple red Lamborghini in the original, joins the cast this time as General Motor's silver Corvette Stingray concept car. Jolt is a new foot soldier, played in four-wheel form by the Volt, a forthcoming Chevy hybrid plug-in. Two of GM's other concept cars (the Trax and Beat) play The Twins, nicknamed Skids and Mudflap.

"Some of the junior Transformers are just dumb," Bay says with a laugh. "But it's great for kids because they're like the Little Engine That Could. They're (screw)-ups, but they get really heroic at the end."

For the gals:

Arcee is the only female and turns up as Megan Fox's hot-pink motorcycle. Co-screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci say she was in an early draft of the first movie. "But we felt we needed to win the audience over before asking for that suspension of disbelief: a feminine alien robot," Kurtzman says.

DECEPTICONS (the bad guys)

The title character:

The Fallen is an ancient robot, sort of the Transformers' version of Lucifer. He's one of the original robot aliens, and his defiance and arrogance led to his banishment into another dimension.

The screenwriters say that The Fallen holds the key to life on both Earth and Cybertron, the Transformers' home planet.

Other troublemakers:

A smaller, but no less malevolent Decepticon is known as The Doctor — a spider-like droid that transforms into various implements of torture and has a not-so-nice encounter with star Shia LaBeouf.

Then there's a giant one called Demolishor, and another tinier one with the sportier name of Wheelie.

Constructicons:

These seven robots — Scavenger, Scrapper, Hightower, Longhaul, Rampage, Overload and Mixmaster — transform into construction machinery, but also link up with one another to form one gigantic robot stomper named Devastator.

"He's made of vehicles designed to build, and he turns into is someone who loves to destroy," Orci says. "He is an agent of absolute chaos."

Bay says Devastator is the crème de la smash and got a uncharacteristic reaction out of the film's executive producer already.

"Spielberg saw it and said, 'This is (expletive) awesome!' " Bay says, and adds: "It's always nice when you can make him swear."

Excitement around "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," the sequel to the enormously successful 2007 movie, has been building steadily since we got our first glimpse of the action in the ad that played during the Super Bowl. Two weeks later the trailer was released, and it looked like director Michael Bay wasn't lying when he promised bigger and badder robots than in the first flick.
Now, to get the fans even more energized, Paramount Pictures has released to us the full list of all the giant robots that will appear in the new movie. Plus we have new photos with first looks at two of the evil Decepticons that will battle the heroic Autobots when the movie hits theaters this summer.

Noticeably absent from the list is the Decepticon leader, Megatron, who was killed at the end of the previous movie and last seen being dumped in the ocean. Michael Bay denied that Megatron is in the movie, but actor Hugo Weaving said in an interview that he had recorded dialogue for the part. We'll see if and how he returns when "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" opens on June 24th.
