i thought how come the score is only a minor difference, then realized it's benched at 1280x1024 resolution without AA/AF

most likely once the resolution is higher, the gap will be larger...

we always forget the strong point of these high-end cards, which is at very high resolution + AA/AF...

Well here is the differences between the G92 8800GTS and the G92 9800GTX:

1. The memory is a higher binned memory, thus allowing for higher OCs than the G92 GTS memory.

2. Same core but different. The G92 GTS core is the G92-400-A2 revision, while the 9800GTX get the G92-420-A2 revision.

3. More power consumption, thus the 2x PCIe power connectors. (though some say not really that much even with 2pcie connectors)

4. Higher Shaders......

So if it were at a higher reso the score would still be rather close......
