There are only 2 types of PS3 lenses not 3 at the moment. The KEM400A is being used with the 60GB, 80Gb and first batch of 40GB models, where the KEM410ACA is being used in the latest 40GB model.

If you have a 40GB model, just open up your PS3 BD drive and take a look at the lens so that you'll know what is the exact PS3 lens type.

there's no such thing as fake lens but fake sixaxis does exist.

DVI can only carry digital video not audio whereas HDMI can carry both audio and video.

that's really depends on your luck....my PS3 already 14mths old and the lens is still in a good condition. I've repaired a month old PS3 with a dead lens...so pray hard so that the lady luck will be on your side.

I don't think so as I remembered snipersnake posted before that his colleague had this situation and his PS3 was totally dead, couldn't even power up and had to send to SG service center for repair and had to pay SG30 for that.

Ok, if you really notice during the update process :-

Step 1
PS3 will copy/download the firmware from the server into the internal HDD (you can see the progress bar) then it'll reboot the PS3 and ask you to accept the agreement.

Step 2
It'll start flashing the firmware from the HDD into the NAND chip of the PS3 until 100%.

So during the first step if you have an electrical blackout and when you get back your electricity, PS3 will copy/download again the firmware from the server as nothing was written or flash on the NAND chip. Therefore you are safe but if the blackout occurs during the second step then you're really fcuked up as the NAND flash has already been erased and the firmware was not being written 100% into it. This concept is similar to PSP. Don't believe me? You can try it but I won't hold any responsibility if you damage your PS3 tongue.gif

all ps3 games can damage the lens...so don't buy any game...oops no, don't buy ps3...go buy a kite and play with it...no worry about dead lens, dead ps3... so no worries...
