There is a way. If Sony decides to release a firmware update that allows BC for 40GB to run PS2 games through software emulation. That is the only way. So, it's not impossible.  sweat.gif
*
No way at all. Its just not going to work, you see the 40GB PS3 does not have the GS(Graphics Synthesizer). Sony can provide the best emulation software for all they care, but the fact stands that theres no GS in the 40GB which means PS2 games are just simply not going to work one way or the other. I doubt Sony can do anything to overide PS2 games to run with the RSX and Cell.

Its like telling a car to move when no one is driving it.

The 80GB PS3 still does have the GS, which is why emulation is possible.

Hey guys
About the HDMI cable for PS3.
The cheapest HDMI cable from Playasia.com is USD4.99 for 1.5m,
Is it ok good enough?.. for do i need to get the more expensive one?
Dont mind slightly more, but no stock now.. so cannot wait.

Can tell the difference between the USD4.99 and the one say deluxe USD6.99...?? some one pls suggest.
*
The $4.99 one is only 1.5 meters while the $6.99 one is 2 meters and is also sleeved.

Apparently version Firmware v2.4 will come in the "early" part of April. Which is of course the overhaul of PSN.

New minor firmware is released, FW2.17.

I don't see any change at all though, must be just a foundation release for the support of the much touted FW2.4.

Though this article has triggered me a little:
http://kotaku.com/367278/firmware-briefly-...3-japanese-only

I didn't have this problem, so....

*edit* Seems that the update is supposed to fix some online issues(those disconnects without reason, game demo downloaded but cannot be installed, etc.)

can i ask another question here, is HDTV really compulsory to play ps3? how about normal colour tv?
*
PS3 can be played on a HDTV, PC monitor(be it LCD/CRT) or your plain old classic tube CRT TV. No problems.

I download the update using my US PSN ID. No problems at all. All of the md5 hash is the same, so no worries.

Supposedly it allows PS2 games to be installed on your PS3 as well(PS2 games which needs the HDD that is, FFXI, RE: Outbreak, etc.).

Can't confirm because I'm using the 40GB PS3.

Haihz...i just wish the new firmware can enable the gamers to play customized soundtrack while playing games like burnout paradise.
*
Actually, custom soundtrack was possible way before this firmware. It was there in Super Stardust HD, its just that developers doesn't seem to care about putting a custom soundtrack feature into their games.

Maxis is full of bull okay... My friend stays in a 3 storey house, she can't even connect to MSN often times. Furthermore, stay in KL, Maluri which basically means Maxis 3G should cover the area from top to bottom.

I find that only Streamyx now is stable enough for any sort of online gaming on the PS3.

PS3 comes with wi-fi.

How good is it during online play will depend largely on the servers and the person hosting it. I played Burnout online without any sort of lag with a wireless connection from my PS3, around 57% connectivity as reported by the PS3.

Yes it can, your external HDD needs to be formatted as FAT32 in order for the PS3 to acess it.

Cautios? About the price only mostly. You may also want to look at the region of the Blu-Ray movies you are planning to buy, see wherter it isn't region locked with your PS3 or not.

As for games, all games are region free(with the exception of 2 japanese games which I have forgotten about). However, you may want to do some research first before getting a region you want. Eventhough the games aren't region locked, but some games are region locked when playing online. Meaning, no cross-continent play.

anyone know whats the best wireless router for the ps3/psp?
going to keep this piece of crap aztech, and get a new router/modem.
linksys i assume is perfect, but any other brand that maybe on par or better?

thanks
*
I'm using a Belkin 54G 4-port wireless modem router, thus far it hasn't give me a single problem yet online on the PS3. I didn't even had lag when my signal conncetion was 55-60%(add to the fact 2 PCs and 1 laptop is tapping off the modem at the same time as well).

Hi guys,

I'm planning to get a 40gb PS3. Should I get a Singapore, Japan, or Hong Kong set?

Please add it in the first page, as this info isn't there.

Thx!
*
Singapore set I suggest. Atleast if theres a problem, it is easier for you to claim warranty by sendin it to Singapore rather than Japan or HK.

How about the Japan's set has "international warranty"? Can i still send it to Singapore for warranty?

Any other difference between these sets (quality, games played)? I know of some video format difference (NTSC/PAL).
*
"International Warranty"? I'm not so sure about that, I didn't know theres international warranty for PS3s though.

Japan sets tend to censor out games with a load of blood. Example, NGS on a Japan set is entirely censored mostly. No blood and no head decapitation, only monsters has blood and even that is toned down. Uncharted, shootin someone has blood in Asia and US sets but on a Japan set, theres none.

Other than that, its region lock for Blu-Ray movies only.

It is actually safer to surf on the internet on the PS3 rather than on IE7 ironically.

isit safe to say that any games made by SONY will be bloodless on a japan console?
*
Sony only publish games, they don't make them.

And yes, pretty much most games(if not all) have censored blood/edit on a PS3 Jap console.

Guys,

I have a few questions.

1) Why should I register my PS3 on Playstation SG website? What benefits do I get?

2) I bought time crisis 4 with guncon. I lost the sensors. Anywhere I can get a spare set of sensor?
*
1) Warranty, duh...

2) This I can't help you with.

Hmm, i have one question too.

Let's say the monitor we have have HDCP support and we have the DVI cable. But isn't it too hassle to change cable time to time as the LCD monitor are being use by CPU and PS3 at the same time? Any idea how to solve this matter?

Connect PS3 to GC and transfer it to CPU?
*
Not possible. Your graphics card is only video-out through DVI/VGA. Even if your card accepts video-in, I am sure that it is only through an S-Video port which in turn gives you bad quality visuals.
