So after reading this forum for almost 1 hour, can someone please answer this simple question: DOES IT MEAN IT IS NOT WORTH IT TO IMPORT CAR BACK FROM UK?

I keep planning to buy this Porsche Cayman, second hand is £20k, brand new is £40k. (exchange rate now is x5.2) It is a 2007 year model with 2.7 Liter

How much will the tax work out to bring this back to my beloved country of Malaysia? I am crap with numbers, please please help...

I am so sad now..... listen to my friend and thought got an AP in a lifetime means it will be cheap.

I got a 2004 RX 8 now, it is only 1.3 (bought it for £5k only, new one will be £18k), will this car be worth it to bring back Msia?

Thanks for your help.

Can please check and see whether my calc is correct or not.

Audi TT 1.8l 12 months rm150k EU

-15% = 127k
-25% = 95k
CIF max 100k

100k x 157.4% = 157k total tax??

That's almost like buying a new TT in msia, or did i do something wrong there? Can get cheaper or not? If not then I'll buy it in msia only lol.

Off topic : Is it possible to change from left hand drive to right hand drive? if yes around how much would it cost?

More or less that... could be slightly less tax, but your need probably at least rm5k more for transport..

after 40 years the tax will be miniscule compared to the shipping cost, the trouble is obtaining the AP (if you have not stayed overseas in the country that you are trying to import for at least 1 year) ...

"Approved Permit", a piece of paper that gives you the right to import things into Malaysia. There are people making straight profits just for selling these "Permits" that they essentially gotten for free, hence the "AP Kings".

However a Malaysia staying abroad (in a foreign country, does not apply to Singapore/Thai/Indonesia) for more than a year can qualify of a once-in-a-lifetime AP to import a car that he/she owned for more than 9 months (in that country).. In which you only need to pay for the application form of probably RM2.50.

Other than that, it will be hard for the ordinary public to obtain an AP to import vehicle.. The monopoly AP holders/individuals may charge tens-of-thousands RM to sell you an AP.

The AP info is correct..., but the tax calculation is way way out dated...... refer to my posts (#66) and calcom21's #188

I need to bring in a car from SG to Malaysia as my sister no longer work in sg soon. She has a PR there and even nearly become a citizen. But now she wan to balik Msia already. Heard that it's quite troublesome to bring in sg car to malaysia.

I heard that sg car have no validity in Malaysia. So better that if she drive in Msia without convert to Msia plate. She will still pay insurance and road tax there. Is it adviseable and more economi to do that>?

I own a BMW 530d (Turbo diesel), apart from ALL the hassles of importing. I also wondered can this diesel engine car consume Malaysia diesel, any conversion or modification needed? since most diesel-powered vehicles in Malaysia are those heavy duty types, e.g. lorry, truck, van, bus ... even boat.

Engines that are tune to Euro 4 or 5 standard diesel, will be hard to run on Malaysian's barely Euro 2, diesel, most likely part to fail will be the pump and/or the diesel injectors, they need to be more robust, and not cheap to get/replace.

The new high torque Nissan Navara 4-cylinder 2.5L engine (4x4, dual-cab pick-up) beats your Euro 6-cylinder 3L's torque output.. but, loose to it in terms of bhp...

o.O based on the depretiation on post 188 this is my calculation.. i from Sydney btw..

just reached here.. plan to get a car.. and bring back to malaysia i'll be here for at least 2 years...its a 2.5L

say lexus is250 about high 50's and low 60s so we take 60k aud for ez counting
aud60k * 2.3 = Rm138,000

Rm138,000 - 24%=Rm104880

Rm104880 * 200* (for both duties) = RM314,640 b4 transport charges

note: I remember last time there is a rule for students driving their car in overseas for more then 1/2 years is eligible to bring back their vehicle for no tax/duties..?? does it still applies today?? judging by all the calculations and questions here it does not... the rule is abolished ?

Effective tax should be... 171.70%... for RM 180,078.96 (if the CIF value is priced at RM 104,880).. A 2 year old car value would have depreciated and bring the CIF value to a modest RM 50 to 60k... and be tax at about RM90 to 100k (with the current tax system, which may be revised in the coming 2 years)
