Beast, does that hybrid tax exemption apply to the "student AP"? I thought it only apply to the grey importers.
And inm, these hybrid cars must be new when being brought in Malaysia. If use the student AP, definitely more than 9 months old car when u wan to bring into Malaysia.

Guys, those free tax for max 2 cars is under the Malaysian gov initiative to persuade professional working overseas to come back

It is good that you posted the link on working professionals Malaysian ...

The 100% import duty and 50% excise duty off maybe applicable to Student AP too... As Honda MY are revising their Hybrid pricing... a RM40k price cut... Prius are 10 years old already... Importing one could be cheap, but a functioning/new battery maybe needed...

Yup, working pros only ... but I have not personally meet or talk to anyone who had gone through this process before.

As you said, that's Honda MY pricing .... they get that tax reduction too, hence the price cut.
Still not convinced the student AP will get the examption. Nonetheless, I'm more than happy if the tax exemption applies. Anyone can share this info from the official source?

R u referring to a new Prius or a 10 yo recon Prius? If its new I'm sure you dont need a new battery.

Not about professional's tax exemption.... but, if I am not mistaken, you cannot get the AP, studying/working in Brunei, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore...

Tax free.... you can buy a car in Malaysia tax free, like the prices at Langkawi/Labuan ... Bringing in any car from outside the country will require AP even if it is tax free.

HI Guys i need your help. I had been working in Australia for more than a year and i bought a second hand car (Honda Jazz - Semi auto 1.5cc Hatchback). It was built on March 2003. I bought it on April 2008 and was planning to ship it back to Malaysia next month (February 2009). I bought it for A$15,400. Here is some of my questions:

1) If i ship now, when are they counting the age of my car? When the car reach the port in KL? or when it get ships from here? As you can see, if i ship now, obviously the car will be 5yrs and 11 mths and by the time it reaches KL, it will be > 6yrs.

2) How long will the shipping takes from Australia to Malaysia (approximate)?

2) On what value will they be calculating the customs/taxes? at my purchase price or at brand new price?

3) Can any bro that help me what is the tax/value (and all other charges) that i might need to pay if i ship it back

4) Is there an office (Eg custom office or MITI) that will tell you how much taxes i need to pay before i ship my car back? I don't want to ship it back and then they tell me i need to pay RM50-60k then i really can't afford it

5) Also out of the topic, anyone knows any removalist which is highly recommended to move my stuffs back to KL from Australia?

Appreciate all your help

1) 6 years, Or more if you are lucky and the custom officer gives you more..
2) Get quotation from the shipping company.. some are online and the schedule should be there.. (rough estimate 2 weeks)
2a) Brand new price (minus some percentages) and the depreciated value. 1.5L has very low tax.. (Plead with the custom officer, as Jazz is available in Malaysia, you may get a higher cut in evaluated tax).
3)Tax... use my formula.., you need to follow Aussie law, importation documentation, Shipping by container 20ft... I estimate RM3 to 5k.. Port handling charges by a forwarder in Kelang around RM1k (cheaper if you know people).
4) Evaluation done by Custom officer at the port when it lands. Rough estimate your car would probably be tax at most RM15k (depends Currency value). You probably can get it to below RM10k if you negotiate/appeal.
5)... Cannot help you..... but 20ft will be a tight fit, if you have lots of things. If your shipping company allow you to stuff/stack till full in and out of the car, it will be great. If not you may need a 40ft container (cost probably increase 50 to 70% that of the 20ft container). If you share with another Malaysian with another car, you can safe cost. All things excluding the car should be tax free....

So does that means based on your est.

Shipping and doc from Australia to M'sia - RM3-5k
Tax and custom charges (in M'sia) - RM10k-15k
Port Kang clearnce - RM1k
Total - RM21k (MAX - estimate)?

By the way, my car is made in japan does that have discount too? Can i call up the custom officer or send them my docs for a quote before sending my car back?

Added on January 18, 2009, 4:36 amHi BeastX,

I should have been more specific... use my calculations on post 66 on page 4..
There is no made in Japan (25% cut, but a 15% "keuntungan peralihan" cut)
The last part on Effective tax can be disputed, it is either 115.5% or 150.25%(as stated)

If your FOB value is RM 50k (estimate), after 6 years it will be RM15k, RM13.5k (if after 72 months they give you 10% depreciation.

CIF value = RM13.5k + RM1.2k + RM202.5 = RM14.9k

Effective maximum tax (if it is 115.5%) = RM 17.2k, (if it is 150.25%) = RM22.39k...

You can appeal for further cuts... 30 to 40% more (of the effective tax) if you are lucky..

This also highly depends on the exchange rate. It would be much better if it is calculated based on AUD than Yen. The difference could be as much as 30% (Yen gain against AUD since Sep 08)

Hi BeastX,
Thanks for your info. I noticed in page 6, there is a price lists from one of the bro here about types of car and CIF Value and the value of Honda JAzz 1.5cc VTEC is around RM41,627. Do you know what that means? also how come based on your computation the CIF is only $14,900? Is the one $41,627 stated in the price lists FOB Value? I'm a little confuse. Thanks once again for your help

Depreciation value applies to FOB (the RM 14.9k from 50k that I estimated). CIF is FOB plus the insurance and shipping. If CIF is that much lower already at RM41.6k (before depreciation). Then, your tax will be much lower that what I calculated.

Thanks for your Info BeastX. I called up Cargo Online (www.cargoonline.com.au) and they sent me a quote based on my following info

Car type: Honda Jazz 1.5cc Auto
Year: 2003

They said they provide 2 different service. 1 is container and another one is RORO.

1) Container

Can load up stuffs into the car and outside the container

Costs
Container: USD1,205
Inland trucking to depot from metropolitan areas: A$180
Container loading and trucking to wharf: A$680
Original handling and port charges: A$454

This does not include insurance and got 2 options.

1) Total loss - 1.5% of the value you wish to cover + $50 processing fees (incuding theft, ship sinking, etc)
2) Full coverage - 2.5% of the value you wish to cover + $50 processing fees (same as above except it includes major dent, loss of parts but not covering minor damages)

2) RORO
Not allow to load stuffs into the car and only ship to Singapore

Costs
Container: USD1,090
Inland trucking to depot from metropolitan areas: A$200
Original handling and port charges: A$230

Insurance the same as above.

Based on my computation if i'm gonna take the container, it will costs me approx A$3,200 which is approx RM7,840 excluding insurance and charges on Port Klang. Do you guys think it's expensive?

That is quite a huge chunk of moolah for 20ft?... As a comparison...a 20ft from japan to Port Kelang is about RM4k (before Yen appreciated, about RM5k now).

Hi BeastX,
Can we call custom malaysia and give them the detail to check out from them how much taxes and charges we need to pay before sending the car back? Cos based on my computation (also depending on the FOB Value at custom's price lists) and if their price lists is anything about RM50k i will be looking at around RM20-30k to bring back my honda jazz which is 6yrs old (also if it's not negotiable la). SO i just wanna get a quote from them first see can afford or not and then later stage when arrive, try to negotiate somemore. Hope you know what i mean. If yes, i will try call the custom malaysia up or if you have a specified number to call

Thanks
