Haha going to UK for studies?

I've been there once for 2 weeks to meet up my gf who studied at London. UK sux everything so expensive...

Maybe London all stuffs expensive lo but last time I went there is the worst time, exchange rate almost close to RM7.2=1pound...

By the way anyone succesfully play a 640x480 Xvid video on this phone? I tried Smartmovie Coreplay Divx player all cannot play smoothly...Sad I think need to convert liao...

Thanks for the tips! Never bothered to adjust the video quality it works quite OK but it seems it cannot play the Xvid file correct for some reason, cannot fast forward, only can play as it is, and also the audio seems to stucked and cannot stream although video is still going...Guess I'll have to stick to Divx player at the moment, and bug the developer to add in video quality...

Ok I also tweaked the buffer to the max and also set the video quality to medium, and the AVI overriding thing and now it play back very smooth now!! Many thanks for the great tips! Coreplayer rulez!!

EDIT: As for the video playback time, hey somebody did the test and it's a tiny bit more battery juice than the iPod video (5th generation)!! Of course cannot compare to the 6th generation la but it's still a phone afterall, already so geng for my need...

I think it's normal for a new set to get the GPS in a working state, seems it need some kickstart to get it work for the very first time (at least mine does), keep trying.

As for the firmware, don't upgrade first, or else dictionary lost...Also doesn't seems to change anything, at least I can't feel there's any...

If there's even a newer firmware, backup all your settings contract and sms first, then after upgrade have to reinstall all your app but I think PC connection is not needed if you already had your stuffs installed on the mass memory cause the registry will be still there, just need to install them again.

Uh, 1hour? That's a way too long to get connected leh...Mine max also 10mins (cold lock)...

After watching the disassembly/assembly video (official one) on youtube, I think Nokia really did care about the spare parts that'll suffer from wear and tear like 3.5mm port and 2mm charger port, speakers, earpiece, mics etc. They're all not soldered and can be replaced in no time! Not sure if older Nokia phones are like that but watching the video somehow make me feel more comfortable to use the phone without too much care that's tiring. Just use it as normal, malfunction? Replace the part without the need of whole board replacement...

1. Normally local Ori sets all already opened in order to put in warranty cards etc etc but eveyrthing should be sealed. However, so called "open box" set is those which already purchased but never used or sombody canceled order but box already opened, and most importantly the warranty card most probably already activated by stamps and also dates of purchase etc.

2. Of course it will or else you kena con liao.

3. I think whole handset including LCD is 1 year and I think battery is 6 months, not sure about accessory...

4. There's already a screen protector which actually quite good in quality and can stick back anytime if accidently peel off a little. However buy Martin Field protector is better cause it also provide the camera and flash lens protector.

5. Not hard to set, just follow manual or browse through this thread or the N95 classic thread.

1. Most likely, no. At least mine don't have. It's very easy to download the maps.

2. Coreplayer for sure. Rarely play other stuffs though, installed some emulator but too slow to play especially vsun.

3. Em, they're kinda everywhere. www.baidu.com is a good start cause it search all the china websites which you know got lots of *ahem stuffs...

Hmm even if it can it kinda kill the purpose of video call cause the camera is placed in a way that it's like you're looking face to face with each other, if you have the TV out activated then the other side will see your chin and neck and maybe nose lobang if you look at the TV while holding your phone.

Also most video call camera is quite low quality one so displaying on the TV will become even worse.

Added on December 15, 2007, 9:29 am1. Battery can last full 2 days until battery kong liao with medium usage like taking quite some photos and quite some calls (30mins to an hour), and sms but with light WiFi and GPS (like 15mins each). I normally will charge the phone every 2 days.

2. Of course a significant improvement.

All in all, don't worry about the battery endurance. As long as it can tahan a full day of heavy usage, I consider that a plus cause you won't be passing through 24 hours without a power point beside you, even when travelling. Not to mention the charger is so portable. Unless you go camping lo...

2. Trust me, it's VERY easy to install...I know preinstalled stuffs felt "more original", but it's the same la even if preinstalled one has to be updated via Nokia Map Loader.

4. HandyTaskManager, damn good app that virtually looks like the windows task manager. Other than that it's up to you.

5. I think it's only for N81. Don't forget, Nokia (and each other brand) will add in unique functions and features to each phone. I always prefer the grid style cause your keypads are the shortcuts of the first 12 icons, like 074 is access to barcode scanner, *7 is file manager etc etc. I used to do that since 3210/3310 era (although not grid style but still can use numbers corresponding to the list number). Dunno la maybe the v shape also can but grid style easier to know which button mah.

After checking the N-Gage site, it seems that among the high end GPS handset N95/N95 8GB/N82 only N95 8GB can do landscape gaming! Not sure about the N95 classic ler cause the site didn't state it can but nevertheless N95 8GB sure can! So that means in the coming future when N-Gage launched I think Nokia will make the 4 MM keys compatible as gaming keys! Extra 2 more than the N81!

About the new menu style honestly I don't quite interested lo so I didn't bothered about it. I think it's more like a built in stuff that only can hope Nokia put it in.

The buttons are sure not gaming oriented la but better than nothing lo, maybe will have auto-fire function haha...I love landscape gaming so that's part of the reason why I bought this, but have to hope game developers do something with it la.

And, sorry about the MSN, I'm a real alien here cause I don't use any IM... I check this forum quite often so can just ask here.

Hmm didn't noticed it, cause I don't really care about shooting quality, just want to capture some precious moment only. Doesn't seems darker or something though.

I think it's game dependant too but playing fifa I think I'm not able to use the MM keys? They're just demos anyway which I think Nokia will further support each N-gage compatible phone for the final full version I think.

Nevertheless, I'm more and more attracted to this n-gage games, looks promising! Hopefully those japanese company will re-release the classics la like Final Fantasy 4~6 Chrono Trigger (I love RPGs!).

Hmm no ah, don't have this problem I think. Can just turn it brighter de but the damn EV not working on positive setting lol. That said, I didn't notice any side effect, seems normal as before applying the protector.

Which headphone you're using? FYI, not all headphone well suited each device. Generally good heaphones will require much more power to drive. I have 2 headphone, the Sony (RM119) and Koss (RM150) all need 100% but still not yet enough loud. However, the very same loudness just need 30% of the volume to drive the Griffin headphones, if 50%/60% ear will explode lo...can't imagine if set to 100%. Unfortunately, my Nokia N95 8GB just HATE the Griffin headphone, it was working everytime with the headphone and then got one time I insert the headphone during gaming then restart then since then it cannot detect it as a headphone, everytime insert just automatically switch to TV out, doesn't even give me options. I wish it works with my N95 8GB though cause I love the voume though clarity really not quite there...

Hey I actually think it's the other way round, it should be the Griffin headphone being weird but not the other 2 expensive one (Griffin also not cheap ahhhh RM100). I don't think headphone will be detected as TV out should be something wrong hmm...I think the output of the N95 8GB not too enough for heavy listeners but for me I think it's enough already cause I'm using in ear earbud headphone mah.

I'll try again with other headphones and report back ya.

I also wanted to try out the Garmin XT, downloaded the k*yg*n but still not yet experiment it yet mainly I have to search for the maps lol. I did downloaded the whole china map for garmin (updated 3rd quater of 2007) but hell I'm in Malaysia so no point la haha (though I'm going to macau and guangzhou very soon). Although maps are more detailed but I'll just stick to Nokia Maps first cause too lazy to do experiments now.

By the way, I think I found out why the battery is draining so badly out of a sudden. So it happened again just now and I think I tracked down what went wrong - apparently I accidently pressed the symbian key (menu key) and made the camera running in the background and stupid me I press the shutter again and call up the camera once more. And then it seems to have 2 instances of camera app running without showing the 1st instance in the task manager, but normally recalling the same app will just switch to the app but not open another instance. Whatever it is, so I think there's a hidden camera application running so even though I quit the 2nd instance the 1st instance might have running non stop there.

Anyway I think it was the same that I accidently pressed the menu key then switch back to camera via task manager but I can't recall if I did that. Nevertheless, from now on whenever I use camera I don't dare to touch the menu button again or else I'll have to restart the phone to ensure no unwatned battery power drain.

As strange as it is, I'll just stick to this weird flaw first, hopefully this is addresable by Nokia developers.

Hmm I didn't really check if the shutter is closed or not but few times the shutter doesn't close but open the camera app once more and close it seems to do the trick. One thing I noticed about it just now what it happened, it seems that the screen saver is NOT activated despite put on the table and let it idle for half an hour already (damn drained from 3 bars straight to almost empty). Whatever it is la just don't touch the menu key.
