AMT and DCT are very sensitive gearboxes. Many moving parts and sensors.

i think 5 years is the expected lifespan? beyond that if still can use then consider lucky

those who buy 2nd hand need to pray harder

Normally 10 years or 250k km. Usually they will make statement that the gearbox are tested around that range. Basically the lifetime of a car.

If the repair cost more than 2/3 of the car market value, better to scrap it instead.

I wonder what was the issue that required a total replacement / total repair of the gearbox?

For such mileage, it has to be extensive damage.

Few possiblity:
- Wrongly handle the gear stick like instantly move from D to R.
- Wrong steps when parking in slope.
- Etc.

All sorts of wrong steps will kill the gearbox.

True.

I don't think issues like delay or jerking would need a total replacement of the gearbox or extensive repairs.

It has to almost certainly be mechanical or physical damage to the whole transmission component.

At this point it almost feels like Proton gave a total sure-fire but expensive strategy to fix a problem.
