as i keep repeating, the best way to kill UEC is to streamline the entry into public uni...

merge STPM, Matrik, Uni Asasi into one....

entry based on merit, with tongkat given based on socioeconomic situation, no pure racial quote..

but which malay politician get balls to take away the racial tongkat?

Your opinion seems to hold weight, and I do think its one of the plausible options that can be explored.

That said, there would be a few major hurdles to overcome. What do you think can be done?

*of course, we will have to take into account that simply "forcing it down" i.e. take away "racial tongkats" will not work*

1. The difficulty of merging from:
- Policy level: The modules and syllabus needs to be examined, evaluated and aligned.
- Stakeholder level: Who would be primarily responsible in saying which modules are to be retained and removed?
- Logistical level: When does the merge start? When does students are stopped from being offered such alternatives as choice?
- Human level: How do you solve the "second chance" problem? I believe some people that failed say "STPM" would seek a second chance in Matrikulasi (avoid fail in their certs). But without this (due to the merge), what happens to these people? How to manage employer or higher education consideration criteria?

2. Fiscal prudence and economical impacts:
- The institutions that offers such alternative courses may have tuition that makes up a big chunk of their revenues, what happens to these?
- Since some courses are heavily subsidized and some don't, how do we balance the costs? Would there be a significant increase in the education costs?
- Does this deter further investment in private education? Since most if not all of the examination and subsequently education syllabus would be moderated and evaluated by education ministry?

3. Tongkat issue
- How should it be positioned to gain significant public support without decaying or eroding the main purpose of the merger in the first place?
i.e. Some parties would insist to have religious syllabus included; some languages excluded and so on.

This is some of the points I can come up with at this hour. Hopefully you can shed some light on your opinions on this. Do note that this response is not to question the legitimacy of your idea, more like "if we go with this, what can be done to overcome the hurdles" and hopefully can become a starting point for any policymakers that are observing this space.

simple.. have only one entry exam... u can study in STPM, Asasi or Matriks.. but all take the same exam

as for the racial tongkat issue, it is up to the politicians to convince the rakyat that meritocracy is best for the country...
