Most mooncakes are made up of very, very cheap ingredients. Even the process is nothing really special. Unless you go for those custom made ones, ayam also don't understand how the price skyrocketed until what it is today.

Shark fin ppl eat the texture. Not the taste. By the time washing and processed the shark fin. Apa lanijiao nutrien, nutrition also lari.

Those who know how to eat is savor the texture. Those who b40 dunno how to eat will never know even I replace with glass noodle.

Shark fin last time considered a status dish which for Royalty and noble.

It is the same with sharks fin. Basically tasteless. I had a friend who was a cook. There is flavor in everything else in sharks fin soup except the sharks fin itself! Even if you remove the sharks fin from the soup, it will still taste the same.

Years ago my company (US based MNC) wanted to serve that dish in some appreciation lunch. I pointed out shark fin being a big contributing factor towards shark extinction. It was promptly removed & banned from future events.

You know, the entire problem with Steven Spielberg's Jaws. The hero was an angmoh.

You put in a Chinese hero, he would be looking at Jaws with dollar signs floating in front of his eyeballs. Jaws also run away.

I'm not sure why people actually spend money on bird nest, especially the older aunties.

It is tasteless and most of the time people consume them with rock sugar. In other words, you are just consuming sugar.

There is always risk when eating bird nest cause of potential contamination.

The so called health benefits like it containing antioxidants aren't backed by research or science.

Basically, people are just paying a bunch of money for something that has no benefit and has no taste while increasing the risk of diabetes and severely affecting the health if you are unlucky enough to consume one that is contaminated.

Bird nest sellers are like legal scammers.

Selling crap to stupid people.

Well, looking at the bright side, stupid people deserve to get their money scammed.

I understand people who eat caviar or black truffle or drink expensive wine cause those are acquired taste, which if you like them and you spend loads of money on them, it is still worth it.

Bird nest on the other hand is literally tasteless so you can't even say it is an acquired taste. You are just crazy stupid spending loads of money to taste nothing while increasing the risk of diabetes and getting influenza.
*
So when olang putih say caviar and black truffle is acquired taste as you claim..
Then Asian say birdnest and shark fin also acquired taste.
What your problem?

Might as well eat Durian also consuming sugar aka rock sugar with bird nest.
Diabetes....the best sugar rush....

What stupid...Stupid is like you who selective claim only certain things cannot.
Birdnest is good ...so you cannot afford, right? Then go enjoy your caviar or whatever you deem acquired tasted.
