Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has lodged a police report against Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim regarding the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) between Malaysia and the United States.

According to Sinar Harian, the former prime minister claimed that Datuk Seri Anwar’s actions were taken without the full mandate of the entities meant to represent the Federation of Malaysia.

“The agreement is not valid because he (Anwar) is not the sole representative of the Federation. Such agreements should require the consent of four main entities: the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Dewan Rakyat, Council of Rulers and the executive (government),” Dr Mahathir said during a press conference after making the report at the Putrajaya district police headquarters on Dec 2.

Dr Mahathir said approval from all four parties was not obtained, rendering the agreement unconstitutional.

“The agreement document is 400 pages long but has never been disclosed to the public. There are many clauses stating that our country’s powers are handed over to the United States, requiring us to refer actions to them and allowing them to determine what can or cannot be done,” he said.

Commenting on the status and position of the bumiputera – Malays and indigenous minorities – in the agreement, Dr Mahathir explained that the matter was not directly mentioned.

“In this agreement, all bumiputera privileges cannot be imposed on American goods or trade. This means US powers override bumiputera privileges, and any benefits given to bumiputera must also be given to the US,” he said.

Dr Mahathir also stated that police should investigate whether Mr Anwar had violated national laws or the Constitution. He noted that more than 139 police reports have been lodged nationwide by individuals and non-governmental organisations over the same issue.

The ART, signed by Mr Anwar and US President Donald Trump on Oct 26, is aimed at boosting economic activity in both countries, adjusting tariffs and strengthening Malaysia-US cooperation.

ART is not beneficial to Malaysia that's for sure but with so many countries acceding to the request, those who do not agree to it are bound to suffer badly.

Suffer as in how? Loss of jobs, businesses closing down and massive tariffs that would send out semiconductor industry back into the Stone Age, and foreign investors would exit our country.

We just have to ride through this Trump Administration and renegotiate when a new administration comes in. We cant be whinning over something that we have no control over.

for instance, we go to bank to borrow money, the bank say will only lend us the money if we give this collateral and at X% rate. Have you ever seen a borrower say, 'I don't want to give you collateral, and I wan Y% rate?

I think a lot of people are delusional, as though Malaysia is a global economic powerhouse and the rest of the world is dependent on us and we can negotiate a better outcome compared to other countries in the world.

Lastly, for those who are against ART, they forget to tell you, whether deliberately or not, within the next few months (Dec 25 to June 26, latest), the US Supreme Court will be deciding on whether the Trump Administration can impose tariffs. Based on the latest up-to-date consensus, it is very likely the Trump Administration will lose, and all tariffs imposed by Trump will be removed.

Which essentially would mean putting us back to pre-Trump Administrartion tariff situation.

So have fun biting each others head off over nothing.

Correct, the tariff is just a manufactured crisis created by Trump.

We should not allow such a bullying tactic to force us to sign agreements which will give our country sovereignty to America, that is the biggest mistake.

Tariff is not gonna last, it is just a bully tactic used to kowtow countries to America's greedy demand.

Anwar needs to step down for giving away our sovereign rights to rule our country in our interest.

The agreement needs to be nullified immediately.
