Forced by government to create EV in 2 years

Ok lah give chance lah

Malaysia perodua created EV in 2 years while japan daihatsu still sleeping

QUOTE(Raddus @ Dec 3 2025, 05:41 PM)
As said by pauline :

Doesn’t Perodua have a foreign partner in Daihatsu? Yes, but Japan not being at the forefront of EV development is well documented, and Daihatsu – and parent Toyota for that matter – does not have a suitable donor car for P2 to base its first EV on.

An EV in 2025 wasn’t even on the company’s plans just a couple of years back. Tasked by the government to produce one, and with no help from Japan, Perodua had to start from scratch in August 2023. To make things even more ‘interesting’ the government announced the deadline publicly, which meant that P2 had to deliver in 2025, by hook or crook. After RM800 million and 266,000 man-hours on R&D, here we are, just in time.
*
Prc have over a hundred ev manufacturers and many more ev components vendors. Many ev components could be bought from the shelf.

Perodua could tap resources from PRC.

Complicated. Majority owned by Daihatsu/ Toyota.
If it wasn't for the idiot in passenger seat insisting P2 EV launch before he retire, a Daihatsu EV could have been rebadged by 2026/2027.

Actually, this RM800M ROI is a few year time including second Gen, Third Gen facelift and so on.

P2 can't just aim ROI within 1years or 2 years. If is true , then is a big mistake to being too greedy.

That's not the way they count, each development cost only for current gen.

RM800mil / 100k unit = RM8k/unit
RM800mil / 200k unit = RM4k/unit

That's why u see big car manufacturer can lower down the cost by selling at US and China market since they can sell at very high volume.
