Recently I joined a company pickleball event. I'v never played before, never really bothered. But I play other racquet sports (badminton and squash).

Anyways, the experience turns out to be quite fun. We got some rented paddles and the cost was fully paid by the company.

Then today I research and see that the court fees are RM50+ for non-peak hours, and RM70-80 for peak hours. What the actual fuck?

Badminton courts cost like max RM20, and squash courts around the same, although squash courts seem far more expensive to build.

And the paddles cost like RM600+. What the fuck again?

Quality, branded squash and badminton racquets cost half as much and I've been using the same racquets since my teenage years (except restring and re-grip). Pickleball paddles seem like you need to replace every so often. Can someone please explain this nonsense to me.

You forgot one thing - equipment and shuttles.

Pickleball buy two bat one ball, can last for long time. But badminton, you need to string and grip rackets, then special shoes, and not forgetting shuttlecocks that can used up quickly. Hence why badminton courts are cheaper, else no one wants to play anymore.

Badminton court max is Rm 20 - Not true. Average is Rm20 - Yes.
Play racquets is in the range of 100-200.
Game is easily 400-600 range.
Some racquets are in the range of 900-1k+

Pickleball paddle = Generally can last quite long but once it is damaged by wear and tear, need to replace the entire paddle

Shoes = Need court shoes also

As i was walking by i peeped at the hall memang got ahbeng and amoi playing .. but what i am surprised to see is the pap pap sounds Like so short . Like u serve , your opponent hit back and u take the shot and then the opponent sure cannot hit back anymore. At least in badminton even your noob u sure can maintain a rally but never pickleball. I tried tenis before and exactly Like this . Very hard to keep the rally unless you train hard . I suppose pickleball is harder to pick up than badminton for newbies

Shuttles goose one easily RM100+ for 12 cocks
One session easily break 1-2 cocks @ RM20

Pickle balls last longer and cheaper around RM5-10 per ball
Can last few session unless u keep smacking hard it broke

Bedminton is too fast that u barely got time to see the skirts but just smash the cocks

Pickle is so slow that u got enough time to see the serving ahmoi skirts, return the service ball, see her balls, return bouncing ball and goes on

High demand of course they increase the price lah. Supply and demand in action.

Anyway, I think it's harder to make a good pickle court than a good badminton court. Badminton court has no bouncing balls, whereas pickle does. A bad surface is completely unplayable for pickleball due to bad bounce. Also, even though both pickle and badminton courts have the same dimensions, pickle court requires more runoff area.

IMO it's harder and more expensive to maintain a pickle court than a badminton court. Not to mention, most pickle courts are outdoor, completely exposed to sun and rain, which affects income and increases cost.
