The money you get from resale value is not much different. Roughly car prices drop around 50% after 5 years. You buy expensive car at 200k after 5 years you burnt 100k. If you buy 50k car and after 5 years you burnt only 25k.

Yes, there are cars that are more popular and that is what kept the price higher than other after 5 years but I would not say it is it will make you rich. Probably if you keep it until you die the car become classic and your grandchildren probably can sell it more than purchase price.
