Some hotels have limited parking spaces, so all the cars are parked to the brim till blocking the exit. So there is no way to drive your car out even if you realize flood waters are rising.

Alot of ppl usually didn't extend their car insurance to cover Thailand. It's called extension 101 I think. But I also heard though I am not sure, that within 50km from border still cover even if no buy extension 101. I am unsure just heard only. Any car insurance ppl can advise?
Anyway for flood issue it's a separate add-on cover, and I think even if they buy it, I think it only cover in msia. Not sure if will extend to cover together when extension 101 is activated. |

Malaysian general insurance (motor) only covers to Singapore but not Thailand. For flood you have to buy natural disaster coverage which is separate from the basic cover. (Many people don't buy claiming they don't drive around flooded areas". If you did buy additional coverage for convulsions of nature + Coverage to the Kingdom of Thailand, then you are covered.Anyway for flood issue it's a separate add-on cover, and I think even if they buy it, I think it only cover in msia. GG leave the car in Thailand to repair or tow back? For sure insurance cannot claim already.
It's cheaper to repair in Thailand if you know a reputable workshop, else better bring back. |

SONGKHLA - The governor of this southern province ordered the total evacuation of Hat Yai district by Monday evening as flood levels continued to rise, boosted by record rainfall. Governor Rathasat Cherdchu said everyone in all flood-prone areas of Hat Yai must move to shelters at Prince of Songkla University in Hat Yai district, Songkhla Rajabhat University in Muang district or the Second Naval Area Command in Muang district by 4pm on Monday. More shelters were later opened for evacuees at the Technical Promotion and Support Office and Thaksin University in Muang Songkhla district. Soldiers joined teams of rescue workers in vehicles and flat-bottomed boats evacuating people - many aged, infirm or ill - from flood-isolated areas. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said persistent rain and flood water water flowing from Khlong Hoi Khong district was expected to raise flood levels in Hat Yai by up to half a metre by midnight and by 1.25-1.45 metres by 6am on Tuesday. Flood water at the Hat Yai office of the Provincial Waterworks Authority was three metres deep and had already caused the shutdown of the tap water plant. The Royal Irrigation Department said the flood waters in Hat Yai were already from 50cm to 2.5m deep. The district also suffered under a record high daily rainfall, according to records dating back three centuries, with 335 millimetres on Friday last week and 630mm from Wednesday to Friday last week. According to the National Statistical Office about 405,000 people lived in in Hat Yai as of 2023, the latest figures available. https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/3143425/ |

I went up betong to do a loop around hatyai a few years ago around same time, but ultimately cut short my bike trip because of weather and flooding. Last year also got flooding risk, some parts flooded but this year is particularly bad. Malaysia states up north also start flooding already. |

Now (25 November morning) the second wave of water coming into hatyai some part up to 2 meter deep, 2 bomba sukarela firefighter truck already gg in there.
Big lorry can't go in already, parts of hatyai that previously never kena flood now flooded, Hatyai Airport under water. Polis already block the entrance to Changlun and Border crossing, water rising in Danok- Sadao Route exit from Saturn to Perlis through Wang Kerlian also flooded and landslides, imagine that on the higher ground than Hatyai also kan na sai. The only safe to cross border between the two countries as per today is Ban Prakop/Durian Burung.. But to go there you need to cross hatyai airport intersection, which is like a lake already... so yeah.. This post has been edited by ajaibman: Nov 25 2025, 02:32 PM |

This year end those who plan holiday at hatyai can change plan. Hatyai town is devasted. They require at least 3 to4 month to recover from the damage.

QUOTE(river.sand @ Nov 25 2025, 07:23 PM) Based from thie tweet, waters have stabilised. Hope the water recedes and the cleanup can begin. QUOTE Hat Yai, Songkhla – Floodwaters from Sadao district have reached Hat Yai municipality, but water levels are now stabilizing, officials reported today (November 25). Authorities warn levels could rise if heavy rain hits the U-Tapao watershed and surrounding areas. In the past 24 hours, the heaviest rainfall in southern Thailand was recorded in Thung Yang Daeng (Pattani) – 634 mm, Rattaphum (Songkhla) – 538 mm, and Mueang Yala (Yala) – 504.8 mm. The Royal Irrigation Department is monitoring the situation around the clock, coordinating with other agencies, and helping residents trapped in flooded homes. Food and drinking water are being distributed continuously. Once waters recede, authorities will pump and drain low-lying areas to minimize damage. #Thailand #น้ำท่วม #น้ำท่วมภาคใต้ #น้ำท่วมหาดใหญ่ #น้ําท่วมหาดใหญ่ #น้ำท่วม68 #น้ำท่วม2568 |

QUOTE(kucingfight @ Nov 26 2025, 12:15 PM) QUOTE Hat Yai continues to face severe flooding, with experts warning that the city's economic zone will remain submerged at least until mid-December. Assoc Prof Seree Supratid, director of the Climate Change and Disaster Centre at Rangsit University and vice president of the National Disaster Warning Council Foundation, said on Tuesday that despite falling water levels upstream in Sadao district, downstream flows will increase before reaching the city, exacerbating the flooding. "At 7am [on Tuesday], floodwaters had risen nearly two metres compared to [Monday]. Homes previously submerged by one metre are now completely underwater, while low-lying houses in areas such as Khuan Lang Municipality are submerged up to their rooftops," he said in a Facebook post. He estimated that rainfall between Nov 21–25 reached about 850 millimetres, generating 1,200–1,500 million cubic metres of runoff. With natural drainage and pumping capacity, it could take roughly 10 days for water to recede, further delayed by high sea levels expected until the end of November. After the flood subsides, people will STILL go back to Hat Yai, dur to poor quality and maintenance of Malaysian islands. Besides, nothing much here in the islands. No free flow beers, no sexy women, no entertainment, no fun, food also so-so. There's is a reason langkawi is sleeping. And for me, there are authentic "tomyam" there. Atrocious liked this post

Again i always wanna say LGK been sleeping for long time, just because of few years of spike then suddenly it become a "happening place" for many peopleAnd for me, there are authentic "tomyam" there. Regarding the bolded part, hatyai more like a family / muslim friendly place now, so i dont know whether free flow beer / sexy woman are still on visitors' list Both destination are not same nature but i understand people are trying to compare them both as vacation place So to conclude, you mean travelers from Malaysia are looking forward on free flow beer / sexy women / entertainment / fun, which i'm now very surprised |
