New Corolla Cross 1.8V. Right after push-start, when shifting P→R, I hear a brief friction/grinding from the front—sounds like gearbox/CVT, not brakes. Only happens on the first shift after startup, then goes away. Any 1.8V owners in MY experience this? Thanks!

Ahh the classic P parking prawl tighten up and next day wanna shift away from P got loud grind or screech that sounds like your gb gonna break..
Shift to N, apply parking brakes, let go of footbrakes, step footbrake, shift to P. And you will never hear that noise again..
I know its kinda dumb especially for cars that have electronic parking brakes and it auto apply parking brakes whenever you shift to P..
But it is what it is.. i also do that just to jaga the gearbox.. Cant even make use of the technological convenience..

Does that means Driver have to manually pull the Parking Brake button on N when park the car? Then only shift to P?

I step on foot brek to stop car in full Shift from D/R to N Release foot brek and light step again to shift to P. Flip engage the E-parking brek button manually if still fasten seat belt. If I unfasten seat belt on P, the parking brek auto engage. Regardless in hold or no hold mode, my sequence the same This post has been edited by jojolicia: Nov 7 2025, 06:40 PM

Usually when first start the car, let it warming up for 1 min on idle mode, then shift from P to N for 7-8 seconds then shift to my desire gear either R or D ♥️😘🐝

Always shift to N first, then apply brake, then only shift to P. This way, the weight of the car (especially on uneven road) is supported by the brake and not the gear in P position.

My car us using old type of handbrake. Even if I directly shift from D to P after stopping and then apply handbrake, the parking pawl does not make grinding sound when I next shift to R on the next drive - unless parked on sloping road. Even then, it only grinds if I don't pull the handbrake hard enough.
TS, does it happen all the time?
