Hi,

Anyone has experience in getting an IDP and physical driving license for driving in other countries (for tourists) and can share how to go about it? Coincidentally, my CDL is also about to expired so am wondering if i should renew this online or do them altogether. I read few JPJ branches review where some comments said you can only get physical license at selected jpj branches.

Hence am wondering if anyone did this recently and at which branch? I'm staying near KL areas though πŸ˜€. Thanks for any advise.

Since your CDL about to expire...just do both at physical JPJ..choose the big one
Get both done for the same reason if they asked

Why do you need IDP for driving in ASEAN or Thailand
You only need physical CDL to drive at those place as being urged by their cops

Anything just show them the video made by Thailand cops representative that is even speaking in malay in case we don't understand laugh.gif

Just do them both together lo.

Not sure if you need physical license if you going to apply idp but since you are going to do it, just get both

I got my physical license at wangsa maju and they were asking for my flight ticket in printed form

Visit the JPJ HQ, either state or WP. Bring along proof of travel. They should be able to issue you a physical DL.

IDP is a permit. You still need a domestic driving license attached to drive in countries that needs IDP.

Another tips, they will charge you rm20 to print cdl but can be waived if you renew your license

Here's what I did last April. Went to JPJ Padang Jawa, bring along my bus ticket to Hatyai. Renew for 10 years (RM270) and ask for a physical license because I have to go to Hatyai. Coincidently that I was planning to go there and rent a car.

Got my physical license. 10 years no need to worry about physical license. thumbup.gif

You'll need to renew your license and get the IDP from JPJ. I'd do them both at JPJ straight away since your CDL is expiring.

IDP requires you to have a valid physical drivers license.

Last I check, JPJ requires proof of planning to drive overseas (i.e. travel plans, flight tickets, etc.) in order to issue you the physical drivers license. Not sure if it's still required since you will be applying for IDP at the same time anyways.

Have fun driving in South Korea and drive safe! I always get confused when back in KL after driving on the opposite side road for too long lol sweat.gif

Your CDL needs to have at least 1 year validity before you can apply for an IDP so probably best to do both at the same time. https://www.jpj.gov.my/en/jpj-service-infor...it-application/

Tell them want renew physical license.

Also bring credit card. No cash payment.

You need to print out your flight ticket as proof to get a physical driving license.
Together you can request for IDP.
Before you queue up, check with the counter officer if they have physical CDL card available, else you’re wasting time to queue. 1-2 months back Bandar Sri permaisuri does not have stocks, but JPJ PJ does have stock last week.

Only 2 JPJ branch that can print out the physical CDL, Wangsa Maju and Padang Jawa. As for the proof, just book a hotel in Hatyai on Agoda, print out the confirmation. Dont forget to cancel it.

only ASEAN needs your CDL to drive around
outside of it, you either check properly or just pay that RM100 for IDP for assurance

Call the branch first to check if their machine is available to print out physical license. I had to go from wangsa maju to padang jawa and wasted hours due to machine rosak despite being hq

Funny how we are regressing and needs proof for something so easily available
