My CDL expired 3 years 4 months - leave it in wallet never looked at it again so it lapsed.
I know CDL grace period is 3 years which means mine exceeded 4 months.

Is it possible to still be able to renew instead of taking the tests again?

ahhh

Renew on MyJPJ App first.
If fail, repeat the test.

Like IC, i keep in the wallet and never looked at it again until few days ago.

I've run into many police roadblock but they have never stopped me...and i dont drive far.

Googled some - found out can make appeal to skip that theory/written test go straight to circuit & road test.
Then only get P license for 2 years before CDL bye.gif

My guess driving school going to charge 500 or more

Why are you still up so late? i cant sleep due to this stress :/

you mentioned driving, not riding. it's going to be around 1k nowadays.

made the same mistake. saw on youtube that the myjpj app can check if i can opt for the special program to b full. when i checked, wondered why i wasn’t eligible. turns out my license expired since last month. renewed it right away using the app.

Well atleast u can renew....

Yes drive - If atleast 1k to just take Test 2 & 3 after appeal then i see why its a money grab.

Not surprised, i just took a look at a driving school package for new learners and its 2k - 3k+ some have multiple retries. God damn expensive

If re-sit test that too have to pay again

Yes... after appeal approved and getting the appeal approval letter from JPJ you can enroll to any driving school in order to take sit theory and take circuit & road test. You will get a free pass on computer/written test.

If you pass the road test then you will get back you driving licence. If you hold a CDL licence before you will get back your new CDL licence without the need of the 2 years on probation P licence.

Driving school will charge you depend on how many hours you take for practice. You need to take atleast one hour of driving practice in order to be eligible for JPJ actual road test.

Dont think i will need many practice hours as ive been driving.
do you know roughly how much those 2 practical tests going to cost?

And how long it takes to complete assuming i dont fail for some reason as in pass in the first go

Cost from JPJ are included from driving school charge i think. You only need to take atleast one hour of driving practice. Cost depend on the driving school. I believe around RM80 - RM120 per hour.

Again depend on driving school that you enroll. You still need to get your L licence again. Once you have your L licence you can start your driving practice. Minimum period between first practice and actual JPJ test is 2 months. But some driving school so full of new student that it need to wait up to 6 months to get a actual JPJ test. So you better ask the driving scool first about this waiting period.

Edit : I think you don't have to take theory class.
- get JPJ appeal letter approval
- enroll to driving school to get your L licence and driving practice slot. This driving school will book your actual JPJ road test.
- Normal minimum time period is two months after getting your L licence and start practice. This give time to new learner/ student finished their 8 hours minimum course. Try ask the driving school if they can skip these two months period as you only going to take one or two hours of practice.
- After passed actual JPJ road test. Hold the test result test and do a new CDL licence at JPJ counter yourself. This will reduce your time as if driving school handle this it will take another one week.
- New CDL licence can be done atleast after one working day from the day you have your test result. You can get the new licence on the spot at the JPJ counter.

My license was expired for more than 5 years. I went to the JPJ website and submitted an appeal luckily, I was able to skip the writing test.

Even though my license had expired, I still drove. Once, the police stopped me, checked, and saw it was expired, they just gave me a saman . The only thing you must avoid is being caught by JPJ directly, because that one will go to court.

After that, I spent about 2 weeks at driving school. Even if you already know how to drive, you still have to pass their test.
For me, I had been driving auto cars for years, so switching back to manual during the test was tricky at first.

But when I did the road test, the examiner could tell I knew how to drive. He just stayed chill and straight away gave me a pass.

After I passed the test straight apply 10 years.

You may need to go through the entire driving lesson and testing process from the beginning to obtain a new license.

If it's expired after the grace period then yes you have to unfortunately take the test again. Depending if you get any exemption, a full test will cost you 1000+ now.

I was a similar situation. I was abroad so couldn't renew it last time. Back then no online renewal. But luckily for me I could convert my foreign licence (Canadian) back to Malaysian licence without having to retest. According to jpj then, yes have to start from zero. Have to go to putrajaya to do it.

KL/PJ driving schools are often overbooked. too many students, too few cars and instructors, and limited JPJ test slots. i remember over 20 years ago my school brought us to Nilai for the test since the local queue was way too long.
